West coast round trip - day 10 parking at Yosemite
Today we visited Yosemite national park. What an amazing place. I got back to our car a bit faster then the others so i decided to sketch it quickly. This is our trusted steed that is actually comprised of 284 ponies :) Very reliable little machine and since it's an automatic even I was driving it ... In the dessert that is ^^ #sketch#idsketch#industrialdesign#automotive#nissan#pathfinder#car
It was recently my birthday so I decided to buy myself the pathfinder NPC pawn box. The NPC Codex has always been one of my favourite sources for characters, especially PCs.
I started thinking about how much information a DM should put into their NPCs. For me, I tend to keep it very basic. I have a card with random NPC names ready. Each NPC has a card with their name, goal, close relations and contacts, a single physical descriptor to set them apart, and any items or information that might be helpful to the players. This gives me enough information to quickly remember the most important aspects of the character.
One issue I've had for a long time is incorporating voices into my characters. Voice can add a lot to how real your NPC's feel and can help your players remember them easily. It's no longer that guy that helped you solve the king's riddle, it's that whispy-voiced spy who helped you solve the king's riddle.
I do feel that my cards often don't include other important information though so if anyone has any suggestions, please do message me or leave a comment! Same goes for how you implement and work on your NPC voices.

The Velvet Fists, Part 5 – Sword Coast Guard, Episode 25, Scene 2
17 Eleint, 1367 DR
After clearing out the maw demons above, the adventurers head down into the basement of the compound. The stairs descend some five hundred feet, and they are certain they must be close to Undermountain, if not within it.
They discover two more maw demons in the entry chamber, and Xavier charges in to engage them. Then, as the rest of the heroes follow suit, several doors to the room burst inward, admitting half a dozen fiendish gnolls.
Most of the red-hued gnolls carry glaives, but one wields a multi-headed flail that trails smoke plumes of pain and suffering. They are accompanied by a demonic hyena-like creature with a hooked, venom-dripping appendage growing from its back.
The monsters all attack, of course, what with the heroes having entered so willingly into their ambush.
Xavier, paralyzed by the lead gnoll’s flail, nearly parishes, but his companions rescue him and slaughter the gnolls.
In another large chamber, they find a teleportation circle and a summoning circle. A demonic wizard of sorts stands in the chamber, chanting into a glowing red portal, apparently summoning more demons. Elodin puts an end to that quickly, though, banishing the monster back to the Abyss.
What's a perfect ambush you walked right into? (Or your players walked into?)
