I like snapping pics of brushstrokes from different angles. There’s so much more energy to a painting than just how it first appears as a picture, and it’s easy to miss that in photos. Messing around with angles to see the strokes help convey that energy, that movement that the pieces have in person. That’s why I love paintings so much, after all. Why not try to share that experience? (“Saturday Afternoon” acrylic on canvas. LauraKowalski.com)
I painted this as a cover a little under a year ago, but I’ve been thinking about it a lot the past few weeks. Near my house someone has put up a large confederate flag right over the interstate. This has been really making me sad and angry each time I pass it on the way to work. It has been making me revisit this again in my mind. No one should be made to be afraid of the town they live in.
