This is what F1 is all about; a thrilling battle for the lead, with two of the sport’s greats fighting it out.
Unfortunately, it’s also remembered for all the wrong reasons when ITV went to a badly-timed ad break with only 3 laps to go, and quite rightly got fined by Ofcom, spoiling an otherwise exhilarating battle. #KeepFightingMichael
Thirteen years ago at Imola...
Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso went head-to-head in perhaps their most legendary duel ⚔️
Alonso won the race by just 0.215 👀

Sir William Savory was elected Surgeon to @st_bartholomews_hospital #otd in 1867. Unusually perhaps for a surgeon, he was ambidextrous, and was known for his extraordinary rapidity (and great skill!) in surgeries including amputations and lithotomies #histmed#surgery#surgeon#stbartholomewshospital#histsurgery
Earlier this month we learned about William Hawkins Polk, brother of President Polk. Today, we have another Polk relative to discuss: L. L. Polk, who was born #OTD in 1837. Like William, distant cousin L. L. Polk was also a politician and a solider, but he fell on the other side of the war. L. L. served in the Confederate army under future N.C. Governor Zebulon Vance. After the war, L. L. turned his attention to agriculture and soon began reporting on the subject for newspapers. In 1886 he created a newspaper of his own, "The Progressive Farmer" and became more and more involved in the Populist politics of the time. Read more in-depth info on L. L. Polk here -> https://buff.ly/2qa0Tt0
#OTD in 1928, it was ruled that women were not “persons” under section 24 of the British North America Act, and therefore were not eligible for appointment to the Senate. This ruling sparked the famous Persons Case. Agnes Macphail, the first female Member of Parliament, was a supporter of the Persons Case and a champion for women’s rights in Canada. #History#WomensRight#GenderEquality#PersonsCase
#OTD in 1967 1st Lieutenant Philip H. Sauer was killed in action protecting his fellow #marines . Today 51 years later Marine Corps MajGen Eric Smith presented the Silver Star to his surviving siblings in the presence of William Marks, the lone survivor of the ambush on Hill 861. #usmc

Happy birthday to the Library of Congress, which was established #onthisday in 1800, to provide reference materials for legislators. After outgrowing its space in the Capitol Building, the Library of Congress moved to the newly-constructed Jefferson Building opened in 1897. The Jefferson Building, pictured here, not only houses significant written and visual works, but is also a magnificent example of Beaux Arts architecture. Historians, like those of us at Clio, are also appreciative of the Library of Congress for making research and educational materials accessible to the public.
