One of my favorite things about becoming a farmer is learning where my food comes from. I'm embarrassed to admit how many of my favorite foods I was unable to recognize as a seed or at various stages of growth. But as I talk to other people who grew up shopping in super markets and feeling separated from the land, I'm not alone. Of course, this is especially true for fruits and vegetables that can't grow in the climate I come from.
So, today I present one of my favorite surprises. This exquisite tender flower is a future okra! You can see another okra developing in the background. Okra grows comes fron this lovely, fairly tall (2 m) perennial!!
Don’t you hate it when you give a client a piece and totally forget to take pretty pictures of it? It’s the worst! So these bad shop pics of this @deltastateuniversity cornhole board are the best I’ve got for ya. The Okra and Statesman logos were so tedious to cut out. Just another reason why I’ve got to get me a @uscutter1 soon!
Such satisfying dinner! Mmmmm... Mmmm... 😋😋😋 1) Steamed Smooth Tofu Topped with Fried Egg and Minced Pork.
2) Stir-Fried Okra/Ladies Finger with XO Sauce.
3) ‘I don’t know what it’s called’ green pea soup.

The start of salsa making starts with growing a million peppers. 🌶 .
I’m growing 8 or 9 variations of peppers this year and this isn’t even an 1/4 of the pepper plants there will be (and these are just baby plants grown from seeds... each of these will grow a few feet tall and will hopefully produce a ton of peppers in the next few months.
Made this lovely Sunday meal—Chicken with Okra ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Heat some olive oil in a hot pan, add chicken drumsticks and thighs. Salt and pepper, cook for 5 minutes. Turn over and cook for another 5 min. salt and pepper. Transfer to a plate.
Add 1 thinly sliced onion to the pan and sauté for 2 min. Add 1 red and 1 yellow bell pepper thinly sliced, 2 plum tomatoes thinly sliced, 1 or 2 sliced jalapeños, and 4 or 5 garlic cloves chopped, and sauté for 5 min. season with salt and pepper. Stir in 1 cup of dry white wine, and return the chicken to the pan. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Stir in okra thinly diagonal sliced into the stew, cover the pan, and cook for 10 min., or until the chicken is cooked through. Serve this with some hot, crunchy toast and smile! 😋
