The Truth about Carbs!

Not all carbohydrates are bad. I hear many people say, "oh the carbs are what is killing me. I have to cut out carbs". Not necessarily. Complex carbs such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, brown rice, and potatoes are great for your health and should be apart of a complete, nutritious diet. 
You don't have to give up ALL carbs to lose weight! BUT what we should give up is the refined or simple carbs that have fat, which is hidden in carbs such as cookies, cakes, doughnuts, muffins and bagels to name a few. If you want to give up anything, give up fat! A slice of whole wheat toast is not the same as a donut. Not all carbs are created equal. Fat is what you want to avoid. The fat in foods is what puts the pounds on, not the carbs. *Side note: diabetics need to pay attention to all the carbs they consume. Not the sugar.

Drink more water! "Water is the medium in which all of the body's processes take place and provides the warm, nutrient rich bath in which cells thrive". Substitute those sugary processed juices and sodas/pop with water! Take your body weight, divide in half and that's how many ounces of water you should drink daily.

Great info! Look at the codes on your fruit and veggies. Conventionally grown means it was grow using pesticides and possibly other synthetic fertilizers. I have not seen any genetically modified fruit or veggies on the stores yet, but I’m always on the lookout.

This is my go to book to ensure I’m actively participating in my health. This book discusses the mental causes for physical illness and the metaphysical way to overcome them by awakening within yourself the ability to contribute to your own healing process. She says, “whatever we send out mentally or verbally will come back to us in like form. The mental thought patterns that cause the most dis-ease in the body are criticism, anger, resentment and guilt”. This book lists a variety of diseases, the thought patterns that contribute to them and  the positive affirmations that can be used in the healing process, along with lifestyle changes.

This is my go to book to ensure I’m actively participating in my health. This book discusses the mental causes for physical illness and the metaphysical way to overcome them by awakening within yourself the ability to contribute to your own healing process. She says, “whatever we send out mentally or verbally will come back to us in like form. The mental thought patterns that cause the most dis-ease in the body are criticism, anger, resentment and guilt”. I had to pick my hard. Giving up Pepsi was hard. Giving up bacon cheeseburgers was hard, giving up Christmas ham was hard, but I figured it would be harder living with high blood pressure, Type II diabetes and looking in the mirror and not loving what I see.

MY Organic Cream of Mushroom Soup  I am obsessed with this soup. With the colder weather upon us, I make it every week! I’ve recently discovered the amazing health benefits of mushrooms, so I’ve started making them a regular staple in my menus. I also make sure to switch up which mushrooms I use,as each type of mushroom has it’s own health benefits. I ate meat because that’s what my mom and grandmothers prepared for me. I drank milk because my mom told us the doctor said we needed milk for strong teeth and bones. I ate eggs because when my mom fixed them with cheese they were delicious. Everything I did was out of habit, tradition and taste. Which isn’t reason enough to do anything, let alone being the reason to choose how to eat. So I broke tradition, habit and taste and instead relied on truth. Meat, eggs and dairy have NO nutritional value and are very harmful to the body. With this truth, I’m changing my life.

My newest fruit obsession! I go through at least one, sometimes two bags of organic lemons every week. I add them to my organic green tea and water. I also make a lemon and honey face mask that I use almost every day on my skin. Lemons are definitely a super fruit. They detoxify the skin and minimize dark spots. They also improve your teeth and hair. They aid in digestion and help ease indigestion and constipation. They also are a blood purifier. Due to their high vitamin C content, they help boost your immune system. (I won’t fall victim to the common cold this winter!) They are also a natural energizer. Grab a glass of lemon water when you’re feeling blah and it will help to increase your energy and boost your mood. I am sold on the benefits of lemons!
