So that’s @ultimate_shred_official done!! 16lb lost and 6.4% body fat gone, I’ve still got a way to go but I cant believe my results. Breaking my fast at 2pm with a plate of pure goodness. This is my go to meal right now and it is not getting old.
100% plant based and full of nutrients. I always use a base of baked potato and then chuck in any greens I have and add on some sort of beans or lentils for some added protein. Add a dollop of hummus and chutney (weekend treat) and our comes a delicious meal ✌🏼

I posted this a while back and as I’m ending my first surgical run I have found myself reflecting again on what it means to be a straight sized medical student working with bodies that we are socialised in a system that discriminates against.
I find myself subject to frequent attempts to collude in weight stigmatising dialogue and practice. .
Some is overt, but most is so subtle it would go unnoticed if it wasn’t for the work I do outside of medicine here with BBN and my keen interest in weight inclusivity, size diversity and advocacy for equitable health outcomes despite body size, weight or shape.
I am afforded the privilege to dial back and protect myself in this setting. .
Our fat patients are not. .
It is well established that larger bodied patients are subject to discrimination (systemic, interpersonal and internalised - with the three act together it really is a cluster f#ck ), weight bias and micro-aggressions as they interface with the health care system.
I have come to learn that larger bodied patients present to the health care system with the expectation and (for the most part) the acceptance that they will be pathologised, medicalised, advised, educated on their lifestyle and personal choices, in attempts to be healed of their fatness.
Fat bodied patients pre-empt unsolicitated weight loss advice with apologies for the space they take up.
I am still working on how I can best express or act on my discomfort whilst sitting under the cone of straight sized student silence, observing these conversations.
So for now all I can say is, I hear you and I see you.

I was insecure about sending these photos because of where I started but everyone has to start somewhere 🤷🏻♀️ and I couldn’t be more thankful for where I am now. Weight and staying “fit” is something that I have always struggled with, I have had my ups and downs but this time I was determined to make a change and it stick. I have worked out for years, but would always go through a time period where I slacked off and the gym was not my priority. I started with Aaron in February and his work outs helped me tremendously get back in a routine and be confident in a gym once again. I started exercising a lot more, but more importantly focused on my diet and the food choices I needed to make in order to reach my goals. I can say that I am much happier now and have a heck of a lot more confidence because of this lifestyle change. Thank you Aaron! .

For me one of the most horrific moments as a parent is when your child comes home with lice!
When my son had lice he was in such agony! Itching his head like crazy to the point he couldn’t sleep.
Because Seth had super sensitive skin I was reluctant to use the harsh lotions found in most pharmacies on his hair.

We've all lived the following moment: You see a donut in the box. You think to yourself, I'm not going to eat that donut because I know it's not good for me and it goes against my goals.
And then we start start bargaining with ourselves. "What's the big deal? It's one donut. It's not going to kill me. I'll work out a little harder or skip lunch."
Before we know it, we've eaten that donut (or two) and for a moment we're rewarded with the taste of that sweet donut. We all know what comes next. Almost immediately. We feel the regret of not doing what we wanted to do. The regret of giving in to temptation. It's not a good feeling.
We'll never get away from temptation. Get used to it. You can be bigger than temptation though. Visualize your goals in that moment. Feel powerful saying "NO" to things that will derail you from your progress. There is a time for treats and rewards, but to be successful we need to practice breaking the habit of giving into temptation. .
I promise, once you break the habit of giving in to temptation, the reward of discipline and your results will be sweeter than that donut. .
You CAN do this. .
