No-mans land between North and South Korea. Years of being uninhabited has created an oasis for wildlife. I bet this place is lovely come the end of spring.
We walked 250m into no-mans land just to the right of this shot, but we were 75m below ground in one of the tunnels built by the North. The tunnel was about 1.5k long, was 2m*2m wide and from what I saw was bored through granite the entire way. It must have been a huge effort to build it. When a defector told the South where it was, it still took 4 years to locate it precisely. Now it is sealed and serves as a tourist attraction.
When we stood on the viewing platform looking out, it was freezing cold and windy, but the feeling of hope for unification from the DMZ on the South side is warming. There is a feeling of positivity and good energy there.
The loudspeakers on the south side blasting out pop music and propaganda were turned off today ahead of the summit between the two countries. Fingers crossed the ongoing stalemate will resolve peacefully soon. There is an incredible amount to be gained by reunification for both sides.
