Here's a change from my usual #aviationphotography . While the sounds of Jet engines and Merlin's are therapeutic, the sound of water running down a stream. The Smoky Mountains offer unmatched views of mountains, valleys, rivers, and wildlife. It can be a photographer's dream.
Graveyard shift ☠️ Can you imagine an ocean where all that is left are the skeletons of what once was? I can’t. What can you do to help? A very easy and simple way to help out is simply by reading the contents of your sunscreen. If it contains oxybenzone and octinoxate: don't use it. When released into water ways, these chemicals are toxic to coral reefs resulting in stunted growth and in some cases when the concentration levels are high enough, coral bleaching. Although coral reef deterioration is caused by more than just sunscreen, a simple change in your summer shopping can help lessen human impact on the environment. Small changes amount to big results. 🐟
Although the teeth of an American crocodile look threatening, they’re for gripping onto small animals such as fish and opossums. The range of the American crocodile spreads from South Florida, to Cuba, and then suddenly in Costa Rica, where they get really big. In Florida, not a single person has ever been killed by an American crocodile. However in Costa Rica, where they reach very impressive sizes, people have been killed. Federally protected in both locations, it is illegal to harass or cause harm to the American crocodile. In Florida, it is on a three strike basis. If the crocodile has to be moved three times, it has to be put in captivity after the third strike. Don’t let this scare you! They are not big blood thirsty monsters that are out to get you. The reason people in Costa Rica have been killed by the massive crocs is because they rely on the rivers for water. When they bath, swim, or stick an appendage in the water, the crocodile can’t tell the difference between an arm and fish or snake. American crocodiles in reality are very shy!
