As a former sprinter (many many years ago) I have enjoyed running as a leisure activity as I've got older combined with weight training. Recovery from hysterectomy is slow especially with the set backs I have had. Exercise assists me massively with my mental health issues to the point I can reduce the medication i need to take (this is my experience obviously everyone is different and I can't stress the importance of medication in mental health). I am struggling since having my hysterectomy and losing the exercise as my crutch, when anxious or depressed as it just lifts me. I've noticed in the last few weeks my intake of anxiety medication has increased due to the inability to do my weights and running. So...... I've decided to plan a challenge when I am better. My father was a middle distance coach years ago and always said I would make a very good distance runner so why not try! I've found the #bbc app from #couchto5k I'm far from couch but this app is perfect for my return to running when given the all clear to train again by my doctor! Very excited now, I'm 40 imminently so a fresh challenge and hope this will keep me focused in my recovery. #makeyourmove#couchto5k#running#recovery#mentalhealth#anxiety#depression#lifebeginsat40#mumsthatlift#fitat40#exercise#exerciseformentalhealth#parkrun#parkrunuk#hysterectomy#hysterectomyrecovery#beinspired#nevertoolate 🏃🏻♀️
"It's in the Blood"
From looking into the study of epigenetics, how lived experience can literally alter our DNA, I had to smile when my son shared the photo of Eller sleeping.
I went back to pull out the photo of me when I was a little fellow. It seems eons ago.
I slept in the same pose most of the time according to my mum.
This tickled me to see Eller sleeping with his leg crossed like I used to do.
This took me back to epigenetics.
What research has shown us is this, when an individual lives with certain profound events, good or bad, it can literally alter our chromosomes and DNA.
What can get set in the makeup of our offspring then, can be profound memories. This is why we may "feel" memories of our ancestors, or what some call a Knowing. A cultural belief of many Native tribes.
For those with the question I am anticipating, yes, this can be a reason some are predisposed to have certain biological and emotional challenges.
It can also imprint strengths as well.
Why do I share this?
I am admonishing you to consider what we hold in our hearts and minds. For we also know the mind exists within the entire body.
What we think and believe, can, and does, pass on to our children, and our children's children.
I see much of my late mother's spirit and tender soul in my grandchildren.
I also wonder if they will hold her feisty manner when anyone seemed a threat to her children.
If you have children, or grandchildren, consider what you can still impart to them if you only give them copious amounts of genuine love, and loving correction, (We don't want hellions racing all around the world!).
I would suggest you be true to your own soul, for in doing so, there will be a peace the children will feel which emanates from you.
I have not been the best father all my life, yet I have learnt much as I've grown, mostly from the pure hearts of children.
If there has been a spiritual hardness within your family of origin, you be the one to change it to something more positive.
This is possible, even if you feel it is too late.
A Spirit of love works miraculous events. I know this firsthand from growing up in an extremely abusive environment.
