Meet Community Constable Joseph Tapaya and Senior Constable Kerry Poole @kezkez_g. They co-ordinated a BBQ at Ernabella Police Station to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generation. Over 200 people attended and it was a positive and meaningful way for Sapol to engage with the community. Well done to the organisers SC1C Poole. Both SC1C Poole and CC Tapaya have family members who were part of the Stolen Generation and it has significant meaning for both of them. #stolengeneration #indigenous #aboriginal #sapol #communityengagement #police #ernabella #nationalapology #reconciliation #proud #strongcommunities #apylands

Yesterday was the 10th Anniversary of the National Apology. Inspired by an awesome free @teachstarter resource and yesterday's @behindthenews segment I created my own Google Doc with activities and read some linked picture books. The class was really engaged and so moved by our history! Doing things like this is definitely one of the major reasons why I wanted to become an educator 😊

Tuesday February 13th marks the 10th anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations by the Australian Government. A powerful moment of healing in our nation's history. We pay our respects to the Indigenous Australians, past and present. We celebrated the opening of our Redfern showroom with a traditional ceremony to connect with and to respect our Indigenous community. We continue to do so as part of the Maybell Group, a proud partner of Supply Nation.

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the Apology to the Stolen Generations, an important moment in Australian history that won't be forgotten. .
While there is still a gap to be bridged in our community and across Australia, we take time to commemorate this moment of healing and the first formal step to reconciliation.

Teaching at a school where 15% of students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander has truly been a culturally enriching experience. Today, I thoroughly enjoyed assisting students to complete this activity to celebrate the significance of the National Apology. Students also wrote their PEEL paragraphs using a hand-shaped scaffold, a symbol of belonging in Indigenous culture. #apology10

Tuesday the 13th of February 2018. Today marks the 10th Anniversary of Prime Minister Rudd's National Apology in Parliament to the Indigenous people of Australia for the atrocities carried-out and the consequences of the Stolen Generations. At ACPA, the students learned more about the devastating and inhumane circumstances many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were forced into when they were taken from their families, or had their family taken from them. It was a time to reflect on how far we have come, but also how far we have to go.

Today is the 10th Anniversary of Kevin Rudd's National Apology to the Stolen Generations. We watched the apology on the big screen out in the cultural centre, after which they also showed Ken Wyatt's 2010 response to the apology.

I don't mean to detract from the sentiment, I think Rudd was genuine, I think he meant what he said... but it's been 10 years, and Indigenous children are being removed from their homes at higher rates than ever seen during the initial Stolen Generations.
We are living through another Stolen Generation.

Ten years ago I was honoured to have dinner with Kevin and Therese at the Lodge on the eve of the National Apology and then see Kevin deliver that nation-changing speech the next day. "My pinhole artworks are focused on truth telling and aim to shine a light on the veiled history of frontier resistance. This particular series of works pays tribute to the Bama warriors of the North Queensland rainforests in the Atherton Tableland region. These warriors fought valiantly over many generations to defend their ancestral lands from frontier expansion.
The geometrical designs in the work reference the traditional painted shields unique to the region. These shields were not only objects of defence but also symbols of identity and conveyors of cultural knowledge and place. I have used pinholes to highlight the bloody intersection of two cultures. They symbolise the many rainforest shields punctured with bullet holes during these frontier conflicts. As Christie Palmerston, an explorer at the time so chillingly wrote: "Their shields may answer very well for the purposes of their wars, but my rifle drilled through these as if they were sheets of paper." Shield designs are my way of connecting to my culture and have been an abiding research interest of mine for over 25 years. Shields were and still are an important part of North Queensland heritage and culture.
My shield designs are presented as a stark reminder of truth, frontier resistance and the aftermath of cultural identity stripped bare." Jennifer Herd - artist statement

Today marks the 10th Anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations delivered at Parliament House in Canberra.

The National Apology was an important chapter in our history - a significant step which fostered healing.

The Governor remains committed to Reconciliation and is determined to be a part of the process of building a better today, and a better tomorrow, for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, especially here in New South Wales.

On this Anniversary day, Linda and I pay our respects to the traditional owners of this land, to Elders, past and present, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People of this nation.

10 years ago today, at 9am on 13 February 2008, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd MP delivered an official apology to the Stolen Generations.
This was a huge milestone for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities around the nation and an important step toward reconciliation, but we still have a ways to go.
"We today take this first step by acknowledging the past and laying claim to a future that embraces all Australians."

On this day a decade ago, the nation paused to listen to one of the most powerful speeches in Australia's history, given by the then #PrimeMinisterofAustralia @mrkrudd on behalf of past governments. We paused together, to hear one word resonate across this country #SORRY
@reconciliationaus CEO @karenmundine says, 'The Apology was a significant step towards healing the wounds of the past by acknowledging the suffering and loss experienced by the Stolen Generations and the broader Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.'
This year, the amazingly talented @dubleffler and I are releasing a new children's book- SORRY DAY- which will be launched in Canberra on #nationalsorryday in May.
Today, we reflect on how far we have come as a nation, towards true reconciliation, but we are also reminded that more needs to be done #sorry #nationalapology #sharedhistory #truthtelling #allaustralians #sorryday #nla

A friend received this today. In his youth, he was arrested during bathhouse raids targeting gay men. State-sponsored oppression continues today vis-a-vis a number of folks within our communities. That said, Canada has made a historic step in the right direction. Let us not forget our two-spirit, QPOC, trans migrant, intersex, street-involved & incarcerated siblings.

National Sorry Day. 20th anniversary of the acknowledgement of over 200 years of systemic abuse and marginalisation of our indigenous people. Honoured to be part of a healing gathering held in Western Sydney. Archie Roach provided the soundtrack to a powerful and moving ceremony. We are all connected...
Aboriginal people were finally recognised as citizens in 1967 as a result of a national referendum, although they continued to be classified under 'flora and fauna' until the early 1980s. Today they make up 2.5 % of Australia's population, yet account for 44% of male inmates in juvenile and adult detention. #hopeday #sorryday #archieroach #aboriginalaustralia #kevinrudd #nationalapology #paulkeating #stolengeneration #fuckneoliberalideology

Thank you to everyone who came to our Memories in the Mall today. The event was held to commemorate the National Apology. On 13 February 2008, former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd apologised to the Stolen Generations and said sorry.
The event was a big success with lots of crowd participation from local residents, the Aboriginal community, Members of Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council and guests from the MLC.
A special thanks to the Guntawang Aboriginal Resources Incorporated (GARI), our performers Walangari Karntawarra, our principal performer and CEO of Walangari.com.au Uncle Stephen Willams and Liverpool Councillors Karress Rhodes and Geoff Shelton who also attended.

We welcomed Aunty Flo Watson to the OCG office today to mark the ninth anniversary of the National Apology to Australia’s Stolen Generations.

Aunty Flo’s story was one of resilience and hope.

The apology was a significant turning point in Australia’s history in acknowledging past injustices towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including the forced removal of children from families and communities, and has become a catalyst for change and healing.

Thank you again for sharing your story Aunty Flo.
