Today is the last day to vote for The Coven Club's @sarahleamonlaw in Canadian Lawyer Magazine's 'Top 25 Most Influential' survey!
Sarah has been nominated in the Advocacy, Human Rights & Criminal category for the work that she has done over the last year, both as a criminal defence lawyer but also as a community volunteer.
She has been successful in helping countless clients over the last year.
Sarah was also personally selected and invited to appear before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Human Rights & Justice, not once - but twice - since September, 2017. Sarah's testimony was so well received that she was invited back to provide further evidence before the Senate in March.
Aside from her work, Sarah is also very active in the community and is particularly passionate about women's rights. In late 2016, she co-founded The Coven Club. Earlier this year, she founded the Women's Association of Criminal Lawyers @waclbc to combat sexism and help create more proportional gender representation in the criminal bar. In addition to this, she continues to serve as the Board Chair for PACE Society in Vancouver's notorious downtown east side. This important organization provides front-line essential services for some of the community's most vulnerable populations.

Hey Nasties! Super rad #nastywoman @alienrubinfeld has been organizing a campaign to oppose the construction of 2 new prisons in LA but she needs your signatures to get the measure on the ballot! She’ll be at @sunsetbeerco tonight from 5-7pm and then all of @bejohnce’s shows this week. Go say hi and sign the damn petition! #staynasty
There’s a plan underway to build two new prisons in Los Angeles, the city with the largest prison system in the world. This is an issue that’s about so much more than money, but we’re looking at 3.5 billion dollars that could go towards schools, community centers, anti-recidivism and mental health programs will going into a system that is essentially the nucleus of systemic racism. We have a chance to stop it. We need 150,000 signatures by JUNE 11th to push an initiative onto the November ballot that would force a reconsideration of this spending. I’ll be hanging out around town to collect signatures from you folks. Because we’re apparently living in the 1950s in more ways than one, this can only be done IN PERSON. Swipe right for the times and places and reach out for more info about the initiative itself. I want to live in a world with less prisons, not more, so visit me at the park or a bar and let’s do our best to stop it.
I was out for hours and 10k steps and forgot to take a picture. So, here ya go after an assessment shift this morning, finals to grade, grades to post, a Dr's appointment, a stroll, a pedi, a momentary nap on the subway (don’t judge), some #lupuslife , and now... more finals to grade. That’s my #colettemabel and #pennyraglan . You’ve already seen and my pink polka dotted #marlboroughbra I call my #nastywoman bra, on my sewing table. Still not modeling it. Ha. #memademay#mmmay18#nyc#professorlife
Day 22: sketchbook and lists
Oh sketchbooks... Would you believe me if I said that for the longest time I was afraid (I mean, not really afraid but you know what I mean) to start on my sketchbook because I felt I wasn’t ready, my doodles weren’t pretty enough, things had to be perfect. I know, I know. Same goes for my jornal but that’s another story all together. After finally getting fed up with having scraps of paper everywhere and losing bits of inspiration, I decided enough was enough. I’ll admit, it’s still a struggle sometimes and I have to be tough on myself (self tough love?) to not get hung up on the small things and just get the ideas down on paper before they disappear. But I’m getting better and now I’m able to laugh at myself when I catch myself being such a perfectionist which is the complete opposite of what this entire creative journey has been about...
