Ericka and her sweet newborn daughter, Marni. 💗
Sometimes when I get overwhelmed (like the week before school is out in May, when every performance, test, project, paper, award ceremony, picnic and field day seems to come all at once!), it's good to be reminded of what really matters. ☀️
I've been a little frazzled and impatient with my boys as we've all been trying to finish out the year and get everything done in time, and I've also been emotional and nostalgic as I'm realizing my older son will be going to high school next year, and my youngest son is leaving elementary school to start middle school.
As someone who has treasured all the stages, this is a hard one. 😢💗
When I started to edit Ericka's in-home newborn session this afternoon and came across this quiet image of her nuzzling her baby girl, it just made me pause and reflect. ✨
New mamas, new brides, and brides-to-be (or not-so-new mamas like me 😊) enjoy the moment and stage of life you're in right now, because while life may seem a little chaotic, I promise you’ll look back and realize it’s more beautiful and precious and fleeting than you know. ✨✨
P.S. Ericka has four children, including little Marni. She makes it look easy, am I right? 🙌 Double tap if you agree! 😊
✨ Becoming a big sister is quite a transition so I always take a few moments to photograph the first born to make them feel special during newborn photo shoots. This new big sister gave me the sweetest grin! ✨
//see her new baby brother in my previous post//
It’s the greatest honor when someone uses the images you’ve created and prints and shares them with others. 💕 My heart was so full when I opened the mail yesterday to this beautiful baby announcement, which featured some of the images from a recent newborn session. 😍
In this case, sweet William was born to Shelley and Zach, a couple whose wedding I shot a little over a year ago, and with whom 😊I’ve been friends for many years. Interestingly, though, I feel like I become a small part of every couple’s life once I photograph their wedding! And to be honest, that’s part of why I chose the path of wedding and family photographer... because I love meeting new people, and keeping those connections afterward is incredibly meaningful to me! And over time, it really fills my heart to play a small role in capturing the love story of a couple and their growing family! ❤️ So welcome Baby William! Your sweet face will no doubt bring a smile to all who receive this card!

So I'm starting this photo series #gettingtoknowcrystin by going back to some of my first memories. This was my childhood, running barefoot in these greenhouses full of tobacco! 💚
My parents are very successful farmers and only have about two months out of the year where they aren't working 15 hour days. Dinner was usually served in the bed of my dads truck in the tobacco field. 💚
One word I would use to describe my early childhood would be simple, and I feel like I've carried this way of life into adulthood. I find the simple things in life to be the most beautiful. Watching the colors of the sky change at sunset, the sound of waves crashing early in the morning, when my daughter pulls me in for a hug. 💚
Why are these moments some of my favorites? They are the honest, raw moments that touch your heat. Those moments aren't photoshopped and they aren't fake. They are so beautiful because they are real. 💚
So there you have it, my first post in my series. Hop to the link in my bio to read more about my childhood, you might find a super embarrassing pastime 😂🙈🐸 💚
Now, I would love to hear from you! Whats one word you would use to describe your childhood? Comment below!
Did a little free-lensing on Miss E today (when you shoot with the lens detached from the camera). They're out of focus and grainy....but I love them. Because sometimes our days are out of focus and grainy, but we embrace the grain, the mess, the out of focus-ness.... and keep on loving anyway. #embracethegrain
