I just died a little 😵... but I also got a little bit fitter 💪🏼. I try to set mini goals for myself before each workout.  I don’t like my time or reps (or being the last person working and getting time capped like today) to define how I feel about my workout.  Today my goal was to jump over the bar on the bar facing burpees instead of stepping over.  I’ve never done that before.  But today I did!  For all of them! I hate burpees so much, but I also don’t want to suck at them.  I’ve progressed from crawling down, crawling up and stepping over the bar to stepping back, jumping up with two feet and jumping over the bar 👊🏼. It doesn’t matter where you start as long as you keep moving forward 😘

Saturday morning rental showing... just waiting on the people to show up 😜. I gave my self a little extra time (didn’t need it this early on a Sat.) to get to Mt. Pleasant because of the bridge situation 🤷🏻‍♀️. This is my last rental left that I need to find tenants for 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼. May has been a whirlwind!  Things are going to be a little crazy all the way through the end of the month, but they are starting to slow down a *little* bit 😅. I’m appreciative of this quiet time sitting in an empty house right now!  LOL!  I have been suuuuuper off track this past week with workouts and nutrition.  Crazy schedule & sick kids is NOT a good mix...BUT... we have a free day tomorrow and I am going to meal plan and food prep and get back on track.  Trying not to beat myself up over taking a step back.  It’s fine as long as I now keep moving forward ❤️

I know I have been MIA on social media this week 😅. It has been an insanely busy, stressful, exciting week around here!  I’ve had to cancel some appointments in order to take care of a crazy burst of busy-ness with my property management business, along with going under contract on our house in NC, house hunting for a new investment property in Charleston (we need to roll everything into something else or we’ll owe a lot of capital gains tax 😬), and kids’ school and sports schedules 😅. The amount of paperwork that is coming along with the sale and the property exchange is a little intense, but we’re making it work!! I know I will be nervous until we close at the end of May.  I am just a little ball of anxiety.  My face is breaking out from stress, and my diet has only been about 50% on point 🙄😫...BUT...the ONE thing I have made sure is a priority is getting my workouts in 🙌🏼. I NEED that stress release!  So I might not have too much time right now to post or update stories or anything else..but here are my post workout selfies for the week 😂😜. This makes me feel like I have my priorities straight! Today during my workout, I realized I was the only one in class who had to modify my push ups and do them on a box...and I didn’t care at all.  I know that I am stronger than I was a year ago.  I know I will reach my goal of not having to modify push ups by the end of the year 💁🏻‍♀️ but it made me wonder how many people look at @crossfit workouts and think “I could never do that” and just never try.  I wondered how many people see Instagram and Facebook posts of super fit people doing their workouts and feel like they can’t relate, thinking about how they WANT to be healthier and they want to be more fit, but think that this is something they could never do.  Sometimes it’s just easier to tell yourself the lie that those people have it easier, or that they have always been fit and that you are not capable of increasing your fitness or that you are too far gone.  Sometimes it feels easier to do nothing.  But what you don’t always see on those Instagram posts are all the people who are modifying the workouts that are posted.  All the people just like you, who had to start from somewhere.  Who work just as hard as everyone else in class and who see themselves making consistent little jumps of progress all the time.  One of my favorite things is seeing consistency and hard work pay off for friends at the gym.  It’s inspiring!  It’s something I am always striving to achieve as well.  It’s always impressive to see videos of elite level athletes doing big lifts and hand stand walks, but most of the people like you, who made the decision to just start and improve their health, aren’t videoing their workouts.  You don’t see all the people modifying.  They might have 100 lbs to lose, they might be modifying every movement, but they are showing up, they are pushing themselves and getting healthier because they stopped being intimidated and realized that these workouts were designed for them too!  You should never feel too intimidated or think you aren’t good enough to join a community with awesome coaching and support.  You just might find that there are plenty of people in there, just like you, just working to be better versions of themselves ❤️

I’m so glad my girls are old enough to hang out, stay put and watch their tablets, eat some snacks and play with their My Little Ponies 🙌🏼. I used to miss a lot of workouts during the boys’ sports seasons, so it’s nice to feel like I have more flexibility to stay on track!! Plus it’s nice having my workout done by 11:00 a.m. 😅

Had an early morning breakfast before a rental appointment and hopefully making it in time for the gym 🤞🏼 May is always a chaotically busy month in this house.  I know I might not be AS on point with nutrition as I want, but I am making a very conscious effort to put in the time at home and not go through drive throughs 😅. This morning I had a roasted broccoli and goat cheese omelette and some sweet potatoes.  It feels fancy, but it only took me 3 minutes to chop the veggies...put them in to roast for 15 min while I hopped in the shower...and then 5 min to make the omelette.  I have sat in Starbucks drive through lines way longer than that! 😳. You don’t have to be perfect all the time, but you can still make progress and changes even when you are busy! ☀️

Real life 🤷🏻‍♀️ No fruit or veggie this morning, messy table, got 2 kids out the door to school at 7:00 am, getting one more ready for preschool, managing a tantruming three-nager 🙄, getting ready to run a million and one property management errands, squeeze in a workout (with three-nager in tow 😅), pick up teacher appreciation gifts, pick up preschooler, pick up elementary schoolers, oversee homework, dinner, babysit my niece and get 5 kids out the door to two overlapping baseball games in 2 different locations 😅
BUUUUUT....I never would have taken the time to make breakfast on a busy morning a year ago. Post workout selfie 😅. (Obviously I still haven’t cleaned out my car 🙄). It feels good to have my workout done for the day already!!!! BUT...I definitely prefer not to have little people in tow.  It’s just less stressful if I don’t have them with me.  They were very good though, so I can’t complain!  Mattie started to head out to the floor to me with about a minute left on the clock, but I just scooped her up and sat her on the boxes and said I was almost done! 😅. She stayed put, thankfully!  Lol!  So, I lost a few reps, but I got a good workout in and I would choose that over not going at all!

My mortifying moment of the week:  But not really because I have the best friends and they just don’t care 🤣 when you can offer to drive to the movies by telling them “I can take a car seat out, but I’m not cleaning my car”....and then text them a picture after you removed the car seat to say “whoever rides in the back will be sitting on a princess blanket!” because you can’t just fling all that mess into your driveway 🤷🏻‍♀️😂🙄 so you are just covering it up! Finally sitting down to some lunch today 😅. It’s only 3:00 🙄🙄 No big deal 🙄🙄. I was so wrapped up in work and sorting through some real estate stuff with Matt today, that I don’t even know where the time went!  Before I knew it, it was time to pick the boys up at school and I hadn’t even had lunch! I ended up having a few extra minutes before school pick up, so I threw together a bowl for lunch...that I am now eating in the car at pick up 🙄😂... trying out some microwaveable cauliflower rice for the first time...jury is out on this.  I’m not 100% sold.  But it’s ok.  Topped it with some leftover shrimp from last night that I diced up, half an avocado, pico de gallo, a tiny bit of cheese and a little sour cream.  It would’ve just tasted better with brown rice though 😂

Getting back into the week!  Only 6 more weeks left of school 😅. It’s rainy and gross outside, the weekend went by way too fast and no one wanted to get up today 😬. But none-the-less, school lunches were made, and kids were sent off to school 😜. I timed it this morning, and it only took 7 minutes to pack lunches. I’ve had some people tell me that they don’t have time to pack lunches like this in the morning. 🤷🏻‍♀️. It’s 7 minutes!  It’s not like I’m cutting things into animal shapes and adding decorative flags on toothpicks or any other Pinterest-perfect features 😂. But more power to you if that’s your thing! 🙌🏼. Anyway, I think that the mental shift is a more difficult change to make than the actual change in what you are packing.  Today the kids got left over meatloaf, strawberries and blackberries, rainbow carrots from @thebountyboxchs and some seed crackers and hummus 😋

For my post workout meal, I’m supposed to have 2 red containers of protein (pork chop), 2 yellow containers of carbs (rice), one green container of veggies (asparagus) and one purple container of fruit (I’ll be having some strawberries and blackberries for dessert 🍓) The best thing about this meal was that I didn’t have to cook it 😜. I got to play some catch with my oldest after the gym, and then enjoy a dinner I didn’t have to make 😋

Super hard to find a pizza that fits his autoimmune diet and allergy restrictions.  He has this about once a month (if we have regular pizza). As a family, we were getting take out pizza about once a week before 😬. So his diet changes have been great for the whole family!  He also got some orange & yellow carrot sticks, strawberries, and a nut and seed bar.  Tyler got the same lunch...I just subbed some chicken for the pizza 😋

Still feeling under the weather and have the worst cough 😷. I thought I was getting better, but now my fever is back 🙄🙄🙄😭😭😭. I’m missing my workouts, though 😫. It starts to put me in a bad place mentally when I miss too many!

Back to school today!!! We had a Spring Break full of Flu B running through our house...it hit everyone except Matt and Andy 😳. It hasn’t been enough days yet to feel like they are in the clear, but 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼. I’m really hoping Andy doesn’t get it!  It would feel like such a huge victory if my immune compromised child was my ONE kid not to get sick!! 🙌🏼. I probably need to start pouring the same level of effort into the other kids’ diets (although they do pretty well) and other immune boosting lifestyle changes as I do Andy 😬. We have seen a REMARKABLE improvement in Andy’s PANDAS symptoms over the past 4 months...most noticeably, his facial tic is almost 100% gone 🙏🏼... it felt very overwhelming to implement so many new things into our lives, and for a while, I felt like I was constantly grasping at straws.  I know that PANDAS symptoms can improve and then flare and continue in that cycle, so I know that we are not “out of the woods” but for now I feel like I can breathe a small sigh of relief ❤️

Although we have greatly reduced added sugar in the kids’ diets since Andy was diagnosed with PANDAS we haven’t totally eliminated it.  His IgG tests showed that he needs to stay away from eggs, wheat and dairy...and we stick to that 100%, without exception.  So, if we have a party, or they are doing something at school where sweets are involved, these cookies from @sweetlorens have become our go-to.  It was REALLY hard to find cookies that were gluten free AND vegan (to get the egg and dairy free), so I’m super grateful that the @publix down the street carries these!  One of the most difficult parts of having to do an elimination diet with kids is having them feel left out at parties when they can’t have what everyone else is having.  I think this is where it is really easy, as a parent, to cave and make exceptions.  But every time that happens, you are setting your child back on making progress improving their gut health and immune function.  In a perfect world, Andy wouldn’t be having any added sugar either, but this helps us to balance the mental challenges for him with his diagnosis and the changes we’ve had to make, and still staying compliant with his diet.  And this truly is just a once in a while treat ❤️

Following a plan that tells me what kinds of food to eat in what portions and at what time makes it easy for me.  It frames my eating for the day, but still gives me flexibility.  It is getting easier to put meals together 😅😜

Some days you just do “mostly good” with nutrition 🤷🏻‍♀️. I’m trying really hard to limit those days.  Tonight we had an impromptu trip back to the doctor because our little flu patient who was hit the hardest had developed a really bad double ear infection and was literally screaming and crying in pain 😫. Matt walked in the door from work, and right back out to take Tyler 5 min later, so that I could shower and be presentable to walk out the door 5 min after they walked back in to go to a rental showing.  So, I found myself in North Mt Pleasant, well past dinner, and I was sooooo hungry.  I know we always have a choice.  And I could’ve made the choice to wait until I got home at 9 pm and then make dinner, or go in to Harris Teeter and grab something.  My plan was to get chicken salad, but they were all out and I left with a slice of pizza and a bottled water.  So, I just savored every bite (because we never get pizza anymore since Andy can’t eat it) and listened to a reallllly eye opening podcast on pelvic floor disfunction (sounds really exciting, right?!😂) on my drive home.  So, all was not lost!  Lol!  But for real, I had a completely different idea of what the pelvic floor was and what it does!  I had ZERO clue that those 4 muscles were affecting my glute strength, and that they even affect your shoulders!  And tightness in the hips after workouts...What?! And it is about so much more than just “keeping your core tight.” I was so fascinated through the whole thing. So, all was not lost! Lol! But for real, I had a completely different idea of what the pelvic floor was and what it does! I had ZERO clue that those 4 muscles were affecting my glute strength, and that they even affect your shoulders! And tightness in the hips after workouts...What?! A friend asked me today 1.  How much chopping and food prep of veggies I do on the weekend?
2.  How many containers I have and if I am constantly washing dishes?
I actually don’t prep any veggies over the weekend.  Since I work from home, it’s easy to just chop what I need at meal time (took me under 2 minutes to chop some peppers today). I don’t store food in my portion containers.  I just eat whichever containers I’m supposed to at each meal and use them to measure out portions.  It balances my macros out for me throughout the day, so it feels easier to me....less I have to figure out 🤷🏻‍♀️. I think that any healthy meal plan that eliminates added sugars and focuses on balanced nutrition works!  I think different methods of getting there click for different people depending on how their brain is wired.  This feels easy to me, so this is what I do 😘. And yes, I always have a ton of dishes 🤣🤣. But since I just use these to measure food throughout the day, and don’t have containers for a week’s worth of food stored in my fridge, it’s not any extra work to rinse these out 😜. Lunch today:  sausage meatballs (Matt made them last night), salad with peppers and cherry tomatoes and a tsp of vinegrette, Babybell cheese and an apple for dessert (1 red, 2 green, 1 yellow, 1 blue, 1 purple, 1 tsp)

Real life today:  since Thursday we have had a vomit virus, I was in the ER to pass a kidney stone, and 3/6 of us appear to have Flu B (I’m not paying the copay to have us all tested.  Tyler tested positive yesterday, so I’m assuming the other two of us who had fevers and still have coughs that won’t quit, have it too 🤷🏻‍♀️). Now that I have re-joined the land of the living, I am on a MISSION to clean and disinfect this house!!!!! Y’all don’t even want to know how bad it gets when a family of 6 goes down for 3+ days 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️. My food prep and eating motto for today is just “don’t eat like crap” while I catch up on everything else.  Should I be eating this grilled English muffin?  NO.  Do we ever even buy these?  NO.  Do I know why my husband bought them?  NO.  Do I care?  No I do not.  It is delicious! 😋. We also had a bunch of oranges to use up, so I fresh squeezed some juice 🍊. Figured I could use all the vitamin C I could get!  Now, excuse me while I try to go be super Mom and tackle this house and nurse sick kids 😷

This past weekend was rough 😔. After a sickness-free fall, winter & most of spring, we had 2 sick kids, Matt and I both felt run down, I spent most of Saturday in the hospital passing a kidney stone and all of Saturday night feeling crazy sick from the morphine.  Yesterday felt VERY un-Easter-ish 😔. We limped through the day, spent most of it in bed watching tv and left our messy house to sit another day.  I was NOT happy about having to leave the house at 6:15 this morning for an MRI and appointment with the spine specialist for my back.  And who would’ve thought that driving over 526 would re-set my soul (HA!) but I was able to watch the most gorgeous sunrise my whole drive over, and feel like I am in a better, more grateful mindset going into this week ❤️🙏🏼 ~Colleen

Yay!  Last day packing lunches before spring break!  Chicken, coconut milk yogurt, a clementine, strawberries, cherry tomatoes....annnnnd....a little treat today 😜. @enjoylifefoods makes a crunchy chocolate chip cookie that is gluten, egg & dairy free. 😅. When Andy was first diagnosed with PANDAS and we had some IgG testing done, we got a list of foods we had to eliminate from his diet.  By far, the hardest to eliminate has been eggs 😬. But it CAN be done!  Food changes CAN be done.  We saw the biggest improvements in his symptoms when we got strict about diet changes, and stuck to them 100% and no matter what.  Eliminating foods that are inflammatory for him lessens the load on his body and is allowing his immune system to start healing and the other modes of treatment to work 🙏🏼❤️

Since this is NOT the first time THAT has happened, I know he can get one from the cafeteria 🤣. Oops!  Andy got meatballs & sauce (he doesn’t mind them cold, Tyler will only eat his warm 🙄), coconut milk yogurt, peppers, seed crackers and a clementine.  Tyler didn’t get meatballs today.  He asked for a mini bagel and cream cheese in his lunch today, so that’s what he got...along with carrot sticks, fruit, and I don’t even remember what else! 🤷🏻‍♀️. #truth  I think any changes you are trying to make in life look like this.  As frustrating as that is at times 😕. When I weighed myself the other day, I had gained back 6 of the 30 lbs I had lost.  I wasn’t surprised 🤷🏻‍♀️. I had stopped focusing on nutrition for about a month.  That doesn’t mean that I didn’t make progress in other areas, though.  As long as my overall “trend” is towards improvement, then that’s ok.  You can’t FOCUS on all the things at one time.  BUT, everything else in my life flows better when I keep my nutrition on point.  Something I need to remind myself of daily ✌🏼

I hate that it is 10:30 pm and I just now showered and sat down for the night 😬. So, it took until my 4th day trying to stay on track with nutrition to mess up my dinner 🤷🏻‍♀️. I ended up just having a smoothie because ... well, life 🙄. Went to the later class at the gym (post workout selfie 🤣), had to run an errand after, got home at 8:00, put kids to bed, remembered I signed up for cheese and crackers for Laura’s preschool party tomorrow...went to Publix....ugh...by the time I got back home, I was NOT cooking anything!  So I drank my dinner tonight (which was better than not eating or getting take out, which is what I normally would do!!) while I cleaned up downstairs, signed school papers and filled plastic Easter eggs for pre-school & first grade egg hunts.  My main goal is NOT to make excuses about nutrition just because days are busy.  It can be a priority if I choose to make it a priority.  And even though a smoothie wasn’t “on plan,” it was still the right choice for me tonight.  The thought also crossed my mind to add alcohol to it, and I didn’t, sooooooo see?! Making mature choices all around 😂

Totally ate my lunch in the car at school pick up 🤷🏻‍♀️. Running late is the story of my life.  Whatever.  Can’t work on ALLLLL the things at the same time 💁🏻‍♀️😅. But, this salad was soooo delish!! I loooove the combo of roasted potatoes (some of these were purple 😂) and goat cheese!  Gah!  So good!  Containers were 2 veggie (lettuce), 1 protein (chicken), 1 fruit (green apple... which I had twice today.  I’d prefer to have berries one of those meals, but my children are strawberry fiends 🙄🙄🙄), 1 carb (potatoes), 1 fat (goat cheese....side note...I freaking LOVE that this cheese is on the approved food list!!! 🐐❤️). Topped it with some @tessemaes dressing and a few sunflower seeds 😋😋😋

I’m supposed to have my first meal at 7:00 am .... for me, I need this to be my easiest one.  After making breakfast for 4 kids, feeding 2 dogs and 2 cats and getting 2 kids off to school, it just works better for me to have my more traditional “breakfast” meal as my second meal of the day.  Especially mornings like today where my 3 year old has been throwing a tantrum for the past 20 minutes 🙄🤪🙉. This covers my protein, nut butter/or seed, veggie (I add 2 scoops of greens powder), and fruit (banana)...then I add some L-glutamine and 2 drops of peppermint oil so that it just tastes like mint chocolate 😋

So, I was supposed to have a pre-workout meal today too...that I missed...because planning was not my jam 🤷🏻‍♀️....but this post workout meal was super easy!  It’s my my biggest meal of the day....for containers it’s 2 protein, 1 veggie, 2 carb, 1 fruit and 2 tsp of oil/or nut butters.  I did this all on one baking sheet in the oven for 20 min @ 425 degrees....chicken, sprouts, sweet potato & apple.  I put 2 tsp of oil on the sprouts with a little sea salt, some Italian seasoning on the chicken and some cinnamon on the sweet potato & apples.....it’s delish!!!!! 😍😍😍😍

Watching this kid do thrusters yesterday was like watching a baby giraffe try to stand up for the first time over and over....and I loved every second of it! 🦒 😂 This was his last @thegaragegamesjunior Open workout of 2018.  I love that he asked if he could participate again this year and I love that he gave each workout his best effort.  Having 4 kids is awesome, being able to see what natural traits and talents they are born with, and which ones they have to learn.  This kid was not blessed with a natural athleticism, but he loves playing sports.  I have LOVED watching him learn that practice and effort can pay off for him in baseball, in Crossfit (he keeps asking when he can start classes so that he can improve 😍), and in life.  Not having these things come easy to him might be the BEST thing he was blessed with...and I love that he has no idea that that’s the case ❤️

No more excuses.  Tired of watching other people reach their goals while I feel like I’ve been treading water. This right here 👆🏼👆🏼 is #truth.  When I turned 39 last June, I made a decision to NOT be stuck in the same place mentally in physically when I turned 40.  And, I’m not.  I’m definitely not....BUT... I also haven’t been consistent and in particular, over the last 2 months I’ve felt myself back sliding and struggling.  Sometimes it’s easy to fool yourself into thinking that if you are eating right and working out and staying on top of the the things in your life that make a difference for you SOME of the time, that you are really doing it ALL of the time, and then when you don’t get the results you want, you can act defeated like you just don’t understand why it’s not working for you.  But the truth is that “some of the time” is not the same as “all of the time.” 🤷🏻‍♀️. I know what it feels like to be inconsistent...now I’d like to know what it feels like if I stay consistent...more than just “some of the time”. I’d really like to see if that can get me under 200lbs by the time I turn 40.  That would be such a huge accomplishment for me 😅
