April is sexual assault awareness month AND it's also national volunteer week! . We wanted to take some time this month to highlight some of the incredible people on our staff, board, and volunteer team who work tirelessly to provide services to people who have been hurt by sexual or domestic violence, while also working to eradicate it from our communities.

This week we will feature some of our amazing volunteer team. Today we feature Amanda!

1. WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING? I work in corporate security.

2. WHAT DRIVES YOU TO DO BE A WCC VOLUNTEER? Helping others, and being one person that a survivor can turn to in what can be their darkest hours.

3. WHERE DO YOU FIND HOPE? I find hope in the survivor's I have met along the way. They have so much strength, it is amazing! Also the other volunteers, and knowing that they have your back as well.

4. CAN YOU TELL US A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF? (HOBBIES, WHAT YOU LIKE TO DO ON A DAY OFF, ETC.) I love sports. Now that spring is here I love going to Red's games with my wife.

1. WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING? I am a social worker. I currently work with people who have Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities who experience a crisis and help them to find services to be successful in the community.

2. WHAT DRIVES YOU TO DO BE A WCC VOLUNTEER? Through my job, I have worked with many survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. It is such a privilege to work with these survivors and be entrusted to hear their stories. There is no better feeling than getting a hug from a survivor and being told that you have helped them in some small way.

3. WHERE DO YOU FIND HOPE? My faith and my community. I am always surrounded by people, whether at the Women's Crisis Center, or at work, or at church, who strive to make the world a better place.

4. CAN YOU TELL US A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF? (HOBBIES, WHAT YOU LIKE TO DO ON A DAY OFF, ETC.) I love to read and travel. My sisters and I also like to have Netflix and movie marathons. I am also a crazy aunt - I will never, ever get tired of playing with my sweet little nephew.

1. WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING? I am a Real Estate Appraiser and I have been doing this for 25 years.

2. WHAT DRIVES YOU TO DO BE A WCC VOLUNTEER? I grew up in a situation of abuse. I never knew of any place to get help. I made up my mind when I was younger that If I survived and thrived that I would do everything that I could to help others in my same situation. Don't think that you can't contribute or help others. Some people just need a kind word!
3. WHERE DO YOU FIND HOPE? My hope comes from God. I have a great church that I attend.
4. CAN YOU TELL US A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF? (HOBBIES, WHAT YOU LIKE TO DO ON A DAY OFF, ETC.) A fun fact about myself is that I've never drank coffee (ever). I worked at the Boone County Jail when I was 21 so I have a lot of interesting stories. On a day off I would spend it working in the garden. I absolutely love flowers.

This week we will feature some of our amazing volunteer team. Today we feature Mike!

1. WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING? I am retired. Before retirement I worked as a Board Certified Chaplain with Mercy Health at Anderson and Clermont Hospitals.

2. WHAT DRIVES YOU TO DO BE A WCC VOLUNTEER? Several things were important to me. First the work of WCC is vitally important and the opportunity to be part of that work to help victim-survivors of sexual abuse and domestic violence is an honor and privilege. Second I wanted to volunteer in retirement; however, I was looking for volunteer work that would be challenging and also make use of my experience and skill set. I have found that being a Hospital Advocate for WCC is challenging, puts experience and training to good use, and is extremely gratifying.

3. WHERE DO YOU FIND HOPE? I have thought some about this lately. I find hope in the the strength, courage and resiliency of the human spirit. I have witnessed brutality and heard women’s stories of brutality against them. What comes across often, but not always, is that while the body is beaten up, the spirit is not beaten down. That spirit is alive and moves them forward one day at a time.

4. CAN YOU TELL US A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF? (HOBBIES, WHAT YOU LIKE TO DO ON A DAY OFF, ETC.) The benefit of retirement is that you can choose what you want to do or not to do. I enjoy family - new grandchild coming in September. I spend a significant amount of time at the YMCA -water aerobics, yoga, lifting weights, etc. I also enjoy vegetable gardening to name a few things.

1. WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING? I am a marketing director for a small credit union (Northern Kentucky Educators' Federal Credit Union). 2. WHAT DRIVES YOU TO DO BE A WCC VOLUNTEER? There is so much bad going on; I just want to be part of the good stuff. It makes me feel good to help make things better.

3. WHERE DO YOU FIND HOPE? I find hope in the people who bring things to donate to the people the WCC helps. I find hope in all the staff and volunteers at the WCC. As long as there is a desire to do good, there is hope.

4. CAN YOU TELL US A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF? (HOBBIES, WHAT YOU LIKE TO DO ON A DAY OFF, ETC.) Love playing with my boys, ages 3 and 4. Love to write, sew and color. Love motorcycle rides with my husband. April is sexual assault awareness month. We wanted to take some time this month to highlight some of the incredible people on our staff, board, and volunteer team who work tirelessly to provide services to people who have been hurt by sexual or domestic violence, while also working to eradicate it from our communities.

Today, meet board member Col. Chris Schutte, MPA!

1. WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING? I am the current Chief of Police for the Lakeside Park - Crestview Hills Police Department.

2. WHAT DRIVES YOU TO DO BE ON THE WCC BOARD? I have been in Law Enforcement for over 20 years. In that time, I have interacted with many victims during the course of investigations. I have seen the direct positive impact that the WCC has on people in Northern Kentucky. It is very evident that when good people come together, great things can be accomplished. The people at WCC are heroes who make a real difference when people need it most. They are selfless, giving individuals who embrace a simple philosophy of service above self. Serving on the board is an honor and one that allows me to be able to give of my time and talents to this incredible organization and possibly help those who have helped so many.

3. WHERE DO YOU FIND HOPE? I find hope in simple acts of compassion for compassion is what defines our humanity. In spite of all the negative attributes of people that I have dealt with in my criminal justice career, compassion lets me know that hope is a powerful force for good.

4. CAN YOU TELL US A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF? (HOBBIES, WHAT YOU LIKE TO DO ON A DAY OFF, ETC.) Spending time with family. Any type of physical activity such as working out, running, bicycling, etc.. I also enjoy working on old cars. It is rather refreshing to work with your hands and see the results of your labors. Taking a rusted old heap of metal and restoring it into a beautiful machine again is a very satisfying endeavor.

We missed yesterday’s post in here! April is sexual assault awareness month. We wanted to take some time this month to highlight some of the incredible people on our staff, board, and volunteer team who work tirelessly to provide services to people who have been hurt by sexual or domestic violence, while also working to eradicate it from our communities.

Today we are featuring our Buffalo Trace Shelter Manager, Jen!

1. WHAT DRIVES YOU TO DO THIS WORK? The clients. I have always said it takes a strong and brave person to walk through the door to live in Shelter. I want them to feel safe and know that we want to be there to help them. I want my niece and nephews to grow up in a world where violence is not the answer.
2. WHERE DO YOU FIND HOPE? I find hope in the clients. When they walk into Shelter many are scared and uncertain. Then after some time you begin to see them smile more often and make plans for their future. It's always a good day when the clients are able to move into their own home. To see the joy and happiness on their face makes the staff have hope.
3. CAN YOU TELL US A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF? (HOBBIES, WHAT YOU LIKE TO DO ON A DAY OFF, ETC.) I enjoy spending time with family when I'm not working. I have 2 nephews, 3 and 11 and a 6 year old niece that I love to spoil. I'm traveling to Europe this summer with my family and I'm so excited.

April is sexual assault awareness month. We wanted to take some time this month to highlight some of the incredible people on our staff, board, and volunteer team who work tirelessly to provide services to people who have been hurt by sexual or domestic violence, while also working to eradicate it from our communities.

1. WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING? I am a consultant in Leadership Development and Organizational Effectiveness with a concentration in non-profit organizations.

2. WHAT DRIVES YOU TO DO BE ON THE WCC BOARD? My motivation to serve on the Board of Directors stems from the mission of the organization. I am humbled to join the staff, clients and volunteers in leading our community in the social change needed to end domestic violence, rape and sexual abuse.

3. WHERE DO YOU FIND HOPE? I find hope in the courage of our survivors. Their strength and resolution inspire me to seek possibilities and potential.

Okay, I'm usually not a big fan of fanfiction, but OH GOSH, you should read "Maysville" !!! This is something! It does not even look like a fic, it looks more like an independent story (just change the names of characters and it can be published as a book)
So, thanks @malec_hun for your work!
And here is your request😊

April is sexual assault awareness month. We wanted to take some time this month to highlight some of the incredible people on our staff, board, and volunteer team who work tirelessly to provide services to people who have been hurt by sexual or domestic violence, while also working to eradicate it from our communities.

Today we are featuring our Buffalo Trace Director, Melissa Greenwell!

1. WHAT DRIVES YOU TO DO THIS WORK? I am driven to do this work by the countless survivors who have trusted me with their stories; by the many times I have been told "Thank you. I am not sure where I would be without your help"; and by looking at my daughter and knowing that I want this world to be a better place for her.

2. WHERE DO YOU FIND HOPE? I find hope in our staff and their tireless efforts to go above and beyond to serve those that walk through our doors; I find hope in every client that is brave enough to reach out to us and allow us to walk beside them on their journeys; I find hope in our community, who always is willing to go the extra mile and stand for what is right, including our mission; and I find hope in everyone who is willing to take a stand against violence of any kind.
3. CAN YOU TELL US A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF? (HOBBIES, WHAT YOU LIKE TO DO ON A DAY OFF, ETC.) A fun fact about myself is that I am an avid Young & The Restless fan, and have been since I was a very small child. I am happiest spending time with my husband and daughter, as well as our friends. I love to camp, and my paradise is anywhere near sunshine, hot temperatures, and water!

Today we are featuring our northern Kentucky Shelter Manager, Dolores!

1. WHAT DRIVES YOU TO DO THIS WORK? The clients. It takes a great amount of strength and courage to place that phone call to WCC and reach out for support. As I walk through the door into the shelter, I admire the clients that found the strength and courage to reach out to WCC. I hope that today, and all the days ahead will be good days for them because WCC staff made a difference in their lives.
2. WHERE DO YOU FIND HOPE? My faith and the clients.

3. CAN YOU TELL US A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF? (HOBBIES, WHAT YOU LIKE TO DO ON A DAY OFF, ETC.) I just began my 21st year at WCC. I enjoy audio books while driving 84 miles round trip to WCC. I love to spend time with my family and to watch my many grandchildren in their various activities such as band concerts, musical plays, and the many, many sports that they play.

Today we are featuring our northern Kentucky Outreach Services Coordinator, Reagan!

1. WHAT DRIVES YOU TO DO THIS WORK? My clients! I am amazed by the strength, resilience, and commitment to growth of the individuals that I work with every day. I am humbled and honored that they share some of the deepest, hardest parts of their stories with the hope that in our work together they will find peace and healing.

2. WHERE DO YOU FIND HOPE? I find hope in the healing and growth I have the privilege of witnessing every day. I see this in the moments that a survivor bravely calls for support for the first time, when a client says “I have never told anyone this, but I think sharing will help me”, when a client reports noticing relief from traumatic experiences after using trauma informed interventions like EMDR, the celebration when a survivor talks about finding a kind partner and building a healthy and safe relationship. I see hope all around me, in large and small ways.

3. CAN YOU TELL US A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF? (HOBBIES, WHAT YOU LIKE TO DO ON A DAY OFF, ETC.) I have lived in Texas, Louisiana, and Ohio. I went off to college as a Museum Studies and Art History Major but graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Child and Family Studies and eventually a masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. I love sports—especially watching football, baseball, and tennis. In my spare time I do Pilates, watch too much reality TV, and have recently taken on the hobby of cookie decorating.
