Forgot about my final #marchmeethemaker prompt- tips and advice! Whether you’re a maker or not, my advice to you is to trust yourself. Believe in your ability to create your own reality. No one is you and that is your power - you are a unique soul, physically, mentally and spiritually and that makes you perfect, regardless of what years of self-conditioning, narrative-building and subconscious belief might appear to say. To find happiness, look within - everything you need is already inside you 💚🙏🏼✨ If you need a little reminder, you can order these bangles in my Etsy shop (link in bio) Pick from my favourite affirmations, or get a bespoke one that means something personal to you ✨🙏🏼💚#rumi#mantra#alittlereminderforyourwrist
Last day of #marchmeetthemaker 😥 Today is all about 'Creative Friends.' Well I'd hate to pick just one as I think they all work creatively in their own way. I have a friend who has successfully ran her own beauty business for a very long time now 💆♀️, a graphic designer 🎨 who is extremely talented and has headed ad campaigns by major companies, a have a friend who is a DJ 🎧 and gets to travel all over the world! A friend that is a skilled jewellery maker and teaches child and adults classes in jewellery💍. Another friend is a qualified nail technician (and her nails are always lovely! 💅) All are Mums or Mums-to-be and I think to juggle work and family life involves a lot of creativity! 😉
✨WATER MARBLING ✨ Today we water marbled the reverse side of our latest commission piece and it’s turned out exactly how we wanted it to 🙌🏼 Definitely want to use this technique more often in the future 💫
Day 31 last and final day of #marchmeethemaker is Talented Friends. I took this photo this morning in one of my very talented friend’s @karenbob73 very amazing house (check out my stories for pics) I did this print for her son Sam a few years back as a new baby gift and it was so nice to see it on his gallery wall in his bedroom. I feel blessed to have so many talented and creative friends in my life who you can bounce ideas off and be inspired by, be it fabric designers, graphic designers, fashion designers, illustrators, architects, producers, directors, interior designers, performers, broadcasters, musicians, writers and artists and makers, great people who challenge you and make you see things differently. I’ve enjoyed doing this #marchmeethemaker challenge, I hope you’ve enjoyed hearing a bit more about me, now bring on April and some spring weather. Happy Easter all #lastday#meetthemaker#talentedpals#peoplewhoinspireyou#creativefriends#maxmademedoit
#marchmeethemaker - Day 31 - Creative Friends 🤓clarkesfarm65.com 👩🍳My creative friends (& Family) are a constant source of inspiration. Their energy, talent & generous support really warms my heart 💝Thank you all - you really do make my life happy & fulfilled 😍Happy Easter 🐣
It’s the very last day of #marchmeethemaker and I can’t believe we made it this far! Thank you so much to all the lovely people who have so kindly followed and supported us throughout the month, you’ve kept us so motivated!
The photo challenge ends today with a lovely prompt... ‘creative friends’, which I thought would be the best platform for two of the most important people in my life, my sister and my boyfriend.
@charlielebeau is an incredible piercer based in the South of England (living in lovely Brighton), an absolute badass and who I want to be when I grow up.
@ralph.beeby is the father of my son (so just a bit biased) along with being the most impressive musician I’ve ever met! Primarily a bassist, yet can turn his hand to just about any instrument that gets thrown his way. Incredibly passionate, hard-working and ridiculously talented/excellent face/hair/everything.
Thank you again to @joannehawker for hosting and allowing us to take part of the month, it’s been great! 🙌🏻🙌🏼🙌🏽🙌🏾🙌🏿
Last day of #meetthemaker what a lovely month of creative reflection it has been. Thankyou @joannehawker for setting this up. Day 31 is CREATIVE FRIENDS and who better could I possible end with than this old chestnut @lubnachowdhary #marchmeethemaker
Au revoir March! You’ve been a funny bird this year with your ice and spring flowers and sun and snow showers on the beach. I managed to do most of #marchmeethemaker but last week got a bit too crazy. Maybe next year I’ll finish it! I think I enjoyed the Day in the life one the most. Looking forward to finishing this #thepetitewool jumper and having some time off over the Easter holidays with the boyzzzz! Happy Easter you crazy kids 🐰🐥
#Marchmeethemaker Day 29: Creative friends.
They say that it take an entire village to raise a child, and I think that it takes an entire artistic community to create an artist.
I have been fortunate enough to have had incredibly giving, generous and supportive creative friends to help me on my journey. Thank you so much for your friendship, Trish Newstead, Jill Frawley, Elizabeth Anning, Sue Couper, Miranda Pugsley , Mia Clarke, Diane Pearce, and so many more friends, and for teaching me with patience, humour and positive criticism.
I was thinking of another friend, Derica Coley, when I created this linocut which became a gift for her and her daughter. #meetthemakerchallenge#meetthemakermarch#meetthemaker#meetthemaker2018#art#linocut
Meet the Maker: Day 30 - Top Tip. If you aren't making the product yourself, spend a long time finding a manufacturer that works for you. At the end of the day the product is the most important thing and finding a manufacturer that understands what you are producing and the aesthetic of your brand is crucial to your success. I spent a long time finding producers who spend the time to make every bag as beautiful as the last and it was worth every minute. #handmade#bespoke#marchmeethemaker#manufacturing#toptip#meethemaker#britishmade#bikebag#commutebybike
I’ve got some catching ups to do, it’s been some crazy good couple of days so here we go. #marchmeethemaker DAY 27 • Recommend a maker • I’ve got so many creative friends this is hard to choose! I recently bought this lovely set from @pics_by_mi to my emotional therapist that works with horses. I have some beautiful pots from @homebody.collective and I love @inbal.leitner illustrations! .
#marchmeethemaker Day thirty is top tip/advice.
My top tip is always be yourself. You're never going to please everybody, and why try doing so as a fake version of yourself?
People buy people. Put yourself into what you do and you'll be surprised at how many people will relate to your work and fall in love with it.
Show the world you're human. We're all human, we can relate to messing up and making mistakes, we can relate when things just aren't going right. We get a bigger response from showing that we're human than if we claim to be perfect.
So make mistakes and share the times things don't work out. Let people laugh with you, cry with you, let people travel along the journey with you. Be. You.
Day 30•Top tip/Advice• #marchmeethemaker firstly thanks @pinterestuk for these great quotes. I think the quotes sum up some excellent advice for life! I love that first quote, remember being a kid and everything was an adventure? That's what I want my craft business to feel like. A rush of excitement when I make something new and it actually looks like what I intended it to look like. (I've had a few disasters too, but I laugh them off-it's all learning!) Have fun! #marchmeetthemaker2018#adventure#advice#lovewhatyoudo#crafts#havefun
Well, I've completely missed the boat with #marchmeethemaker , better luck next year! I don't think I could even do such a comprehensive lowdown of me and my biz just yet anyway - I haven't even got a logo haha!
I'm currently on easter holiday duties, so any spare time is pretty limited amongst the easter egg hunts and baking 😉 getting back to business after next week, can't flipping wait to get making more gems for you lovelies. Also, the sewing machines are out, and I've got a massive order of overlocker thread on the way so I'm pretty stoked to get making sample pieces of clothing (hopefully in time) for summer. In the meantime though, you can find me with chocolate on my face rolling around with the lambs 🤘
Hope you all have a fab Ĕoster weekend whatever you get up to! Get 30% off on my etsy until Tuesday with code 'HAPPYBUNNY' 😘
#Marchmeethemaker Day 29: Top tip/ advice.
I think the best advice I could ever give anyone is “ just do it”. I have learned not to worry about being perfect, good enough, as good as, being right. The important for me is just doing. At the end, I may not like what I have done, but someone else may. Even if no one likes the piece, I will have learned something by doing the piece - even if the lesson is that a certain technique is not something I would repeat.
This piece is based on a trip to Istanbul. It involves my photos printed on fabric, hand dyed fabric, drawing and paint on fabric, hand embroidery and machine embroidery. #meetthemakerchallenge#meetthemakermarch#meetthemaker#meetthemaker2018#art#handdyedfabric#artquilt#istanbul
Jessie is the brilliantly talented watercolour artist creating watercolour prints and custom original art over at @inkandivyprints
She started her business in November 2015 and says, “My friends pushed me into it and I could not think of a reason why it didn't make sense to just try! I can't go more than a few days without creating something and I love the feeling of producing something new - even if the rest of the house is in chaos!” #ArtOverChaos
Jessie tell us, “My proudest moments since I started this endeavour are seeing my artwork displayed in people's homes and when other artists who I really admire like or comment on my painting - I get a real kick out of that!”
Jessie shares 5 interesting facts about herself:
1.She taught Sunday School for 10 years
2.She used to paint rocks as a kid and set up a little stall in her driveway with her sisters to sell off their works of art #EntrepreneurBlood .
3. She loves Period Dramas and co-admins a 'Period Drama Appreciation Society' group on Facebook with over 14k members
4. She loves anything miniature .
5. She was a member of "The Embroiders Guild" as a child, where she would sit quietly and embroider under the watchful eye of some elderly ladies!

Day 29 - Community #Marchmeethemaker
One of my biggest takeaways over the last 12 month is that regardless of how shy and timid I'm feeling, it's important for me to reach out and connect with people - to network, engage and evolve myself in events and communities that resonate.
...So straight after another inspiring day at the It's In Our Hands ethical making symposium/workshop , I jumped on a train from Edinburgh to London and on route I've been on an online group session with the #DreamPlanDo community organised by the wonderful (and award winning 🙌) Patricia van den Akker of @thedesigntrust . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I've been involved only since January but I know that being part of this group of lovely creatives has been so vital in my own development - both personally and in business... Sharing experiences with like-minded creatives, celebrating each other's wins, giving each other virtual hugs during the lows, getting much needed nudges and occasional kick up the 🍑 from our accountability partners, having a great sounding board for ideas...Really I can go on and on and on telling you how wonderful being part of an engaged community is. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Alone I often felt overwhelmed but now experience tells me that as a collective we can do so much... #werisebyliftingothers ... the wonderful thing about #communityovercompetition 😊
Day 29 of #marchmeethemaker is community, one of my favourite things that I’ve discovered since starting to make bags. There is an amazingly supportive community both here on Instagram and on Etsy, between connecting with people and teams everyone has been majorly supportive and generous with advice and help! Big ❤️ to everyone who takes the time to follow, like and comment, they all mean so much #community#instagramcommunity#peoplemakecommunity
Day 29 of #marchmeethemaker#community
Don’t worry there’s only two more days of these posts after today! 😜
I have joined many craft communities online. It’s always nice to chat with people doing what you do and of course see other crafts and purchase other lovely handcrafted items!
I can’t believe that #marchmeethemaker is almost drawing to a close already! Today’s prompt is all about ‘community’ which I’ve certainly felt a part of here on Instagram as well as Etsy (where I opened my first shop far too many years ago!). It’s been such an inspiring journey from when I first started hand drawing little doodles that school friends politely bought to starting what I hope will be my forever-business and be able to contribute to supporting our family for a long time yet!
Thank you so much to everyone who has followed, commented and shared our story so far. This is such an inspiring and supportive community to be part of and I can’t wait to meet and get to know even more of you lovely lot! 👋🏻👋🏼👋🏽👋🏾👋🏿
#Marchmeethemaker Day 29: Community.
Although I am not really part of one particular artistic community in Melbourne, I don’t really feel cut off from an artistic community.
I have so much support and inspiration from other artists on Instagram ( thank you, Linda Lawson, Sue Spence, Maureen Whitfield and all my other followers, as well as the artists I follow, like Tara Axford, Anna Torma and Dijanne Cevaal).
I also exchange work with others on Facebook, especially the groups I am involved in ( A Year in Stitches, Textile Arts, 1 Year of Stitches 2018, Urban Sketchers, Art Quilts, The Studio: Women’s Art Discussion GroupContact Printing; explore, absorb amd shareTextil/Kunst&Design-Textil/ art & design- Tekstil/ Umetnost & Design, Foxy Art Ripping Textilists, TAFA’s village, Coburg Knitting Circle and Art Quilts ). I belong to the Junk Mail Art Collective on Facebook, which is what inspired me to the make the greeting card shown here.
I love to do workshops with artists I admire, and have learned so much because of their generosity. Gail Stiffe, Kathryn Harmer Fox, Sandra Meech, Kirsten Ingemar, Sue Benner, Sandra Pearce, Mia Clark, Nancy Brown, and my other tutors, thank you too! #meetthemakerchallenge#meetthemakermarch#meetthemaker#meetthemaker2018#art#ecodyedpaper#greetingcards#artcard
My fellow studio holders are a wonderful artist community @northlightartstudio so perfect for day 29 #meetthemaker for #COMMUNITY with @ukuletty @rachred @roowaterhouseart @katch_skinner @janerevitt @fiona.armer @kateboyceart @rubycreagh ...... have I missed somebody ? Let me know and I can amend x #marchmeethemaker
Its’ day 28 of #marchmeethemaker and the prompt is ‘ORGANIZED.’ Nothing quite beats a good mason jar to keep our art supplies in check. Brushes, permanent markers, pencils, pens - they all look classy and contained in a mason jar! 👌🏻
She says, "I am an artist. Why? Because I love it, and I have always loved it. Drawing and painting have always been a passion. I stopped making art after I left school, never believing it was a "proper" career choice. How wrong was I! On a quest for me, I rediscovered my passion for art. I am so grateful I did.
Something else I have discovered is that I love helping others. I found I can do this through my art. Whether it be through joy while documenting their memories or to help ease loss with an ultrasound painting. Inspiration from an affirmation or simply happiness with one of my prints.
I am also working on some new art, different from my normal pieces. I can't wait to show them to you." #WeCantWaitToSee .

In this week's Hiyerr! Magazine, Burt Badgerach relives the moment he realised that his marriage to Angelina Jolie wasn't working out. "I'd been on a world tour for six months and I was really looking forward to catching up on the 618 episodes of Emmerdale that I'd missed," explains the 1970s pop icon. "When I got back to the bungalow that we shared, Angelina had left a note saying she'd nipped to Neil Diamond's house for some sugar, which was weird, because there was plenty in the cupboard. And I know that Neil is diabetic. Anyway, I decided to take advantage of the peace and quiet by reacquainting myself with our home. The kettle could have done with a good de-scaling and she'd written something obscene in the butter but, otherwise, the kitchen seemed pretty much as I'd left it. In the bathroom, Angelina's plastic ducks littered the floor and I couldn't help but notice that she'd been squeezing the toothpaste from the middle. Still, absence makes the heart grow fonder and I decided to overlook these things. Well, until after tea at least. However, as I opened the door to the bedroom, I knew that something was seriously wrong. A trail of discarded clothing led to the bed, where the sheets lay all tangled. I picked up a t-shirt from the floor and wondered when Angelina had started wearing Neil Diamond-endorsed merchandise, especially in what was clearly an unflattering male cut. It was then that I spotted my cherished pot pourri, a gift from Mick Hucknall for looking after his gerbils while he visited his nan in Grimsby. Once vivid and fragrant, the Himalayan Waftage that the Simply Red singer and dear friend had so carefully selected for me was now unscented and, worse still, FADED. Angelina clearly hadn't jiggled the bowl ONCE during my absence. I sagged against the nearest wall, the bowl gripped in my shaking hands. As I did so, a single petal of pot pourri fluttered on to the carpet, where it shattered into a dozen pieces. It may as well have been my HEART." 💔
Day 28 of #marchmeethemaker#organised
Organised - I like to be organised and prepared (I did these posts well in advance in notes on my phone). Hence why I have lists and a diary to keep me on track. I like to know what I have to do in the time I have. #listslistslists
Day 28 #marchmeethemaker is Organised. I would like to think I’m pretty organised! When there is a lot of s**t to get done I’m at my best! I spring in to action and make it happen, nothing like a bit of pressure to get results. Running your own business with two small kids you absolutely have to be organised, I start everyday with a To Do list! I have organised a few surprise parties and hen dos in my time and I take this VERY seriously. Today’s organisational skills involved moving the boys out of their rooms and in to their new temporary room until our building work is complete. This was challenging considering we had a poorly Milo and I had some orders to do but we nailed it! My friends used to always comment when moving house, how by the end of day one it looked like I had always lived there. I’m still a bit like this, we created this gallery wall in the boys new room today. It will evolve and change but at least for now they should feel cosy at home in their new pad. Tap for credits. #getorganised#gallerywall#kidsinteriordesign#kidsinteriorstyling#kidsroomdecor#kidsroominspo#kidsroomideas#mixprints#partyanimals#maxmademedoit#happyroom#boysroomdecor#boysroominspo
Day 28 #marchmeethemaker
@mnml.mcr once told me he liked to have a ‘home’ for everything. As a naturally DISorganized person I have taken this on board and try my hardest to follow his lead. Keeping things tidy really does help to keep my life and brain uncluttered.
I still can get pretty messy in ‘my’ spaces at work and at home but it’s definitely organised clutter and I usually know where to find things these days.
Here are my threads looking mega pleasing in colour order. I get these out for customers when deciding on combinations it also means I am not rummaging around for hours before stitching orders.
Sending love to all the messy peeps out there... and to all the tidy ones I salute you 🙌🏽
Day 28: Organized. I keep all of my stitching goodness in a basket that follows me from room to room. But not just any old basket. The MOST BEAUTIFULLY HANDMADE baskets - Longaberger baskets. I’ve been a basket snob since I was a teenager and my aunt @omitullis was one of their home consultants. I seriously LOVE these baskets and I’ve never had any that lived up to the rough & tumble of real life like a Longaberger. They are definitely worth the 💵. @longabergerco is based in Dresden, OH and someday I’d love to see the company in person. #marchmeethemaker#longaberger#longabergerbasket
#marchmeethemaker day 28 theme is 'organised.' This year I've been using the planner The Girls Mean Business with Claire Mitchell and it's fantastic! I'd wished I'd discovered it earlier on in my business journey as it's enabled me to remain focused and has also reminded me that planning ahead is so important when trying to achieve goals in business or in anything for that matter!
#Marchmeethemaker Day 28: Organised.
When I had a non artistic career and children to look after, I was so organised! I had to be!
Now that I have no boss, I still work hard, but unless I have a deadline to meet, I take great pleasure in not needing to be organised. If I get bored, or feel the need for a change, I feel free to start, or continue, or finish, another project.
The only thing that I am really organised about now is keeping my box of gift cards filled. Every so often, I select a technique I want to practise, and I make a set of cards using the technique. These cards were made using papers which were ecodyed, then sculpted by tearing and burning to form fairly abstract landscapes, which were machine sewn onto blank cards. #meetthemakerchallenge#meetthemakermarch#meetthemaker#meetthemaker2018#art#ecodyedpaper#greetingcards#artcard
Day 27 - Recommend a Maker #marchmeethemaker
It was this exact statement piece by the wonderful @scarlettwillowd that made me stop in my tracks, go 😍, and then say 👋😊 hello! ...And of course there’s her stunning and unique 'A Drop in the Ocean' collection that has me going 😯❤️ every single time.... Oh but there's also the fabulous Entwined necklace that I love so much.... Actually, girl - you make it super duper hard for me to pick which one I ❤️ the most. #howcanipossiblychoose 😅? ...Well then again, maybe the solution is simply to have them all? 🙏😊 #iwant ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Day 27 of #marchmeethemaker#recommendamaker
I recommend Loretta over at #truelovekeepsakes at the end of last year Loretta made me a beautiful necklace with three charms on of my three boys finger prints. Loretta was so helpful and the finished product was amazing. I love it and can’t thank Loretta enough. If you’re hesitating in getting one go for it! @truelovekeepsakes
#day27#marchmeethemaker 'recommend a maker'
I'm not sure what context 'recommend' refers to and I know and admire many wonderful makers in a diversity of disciplines. So I've decided to narrow it down to my favourite medium porcelain clay, and highlight @molliebosworth, an Australian ceramicist whose ethereal work I'm just slightly in love with at the moment!
Books in the studio and by the bed. Today’s #meetthemaker is Books , blogs and podcasts on #day26 . I can only partake in the first ( don’t blog or podcast) and getting some of my automata life time favourites down off the studio shelf here is a small pile. Doing this meet the maker is quite a reflective experience. On opening the bottom book a lovely reminder of how my dad always encouraged me and bought me this 30 years ago now. By the bed I have a strange selection for someone who doesn’t read. I am a picture book person and that massive gold finch book has been there over 5 yrs now and will never get read. #marchmeethemaker
Day 25 of #meetthemaker is Being a maker means ....... Being a maker means inside your head you are always creating away. One thing this can result in is spending far too long looking at things like I did yesterday looking at these cuckcoo clocks weights deciding if I needed to buy them or not. I love the way the are cast iron pine cones. I had not noticed that before on cuckoo clocks. #marchmeethemaker
Today’s #meetthemaker is Achievements so this will do nicely on #day24 . I am in Hastings today enjoying @hastingspierofficial exhibition #automata on the pier with Sarah Alexander @cabmech. Good to see #wonkydonkey in location and a super exhibition with a tremendous amount of wider engagement. #marchmeethemaker
#meetthemaker Day 22 Sketch Books & Lists. The list has 2017 on the top I don’t think I have one for this year so that’s good. I have various books on the go to draw and work things out in. I also keep one by my bed. #marchmeethemaker
Day 18 #meetthemaker is Inspiration. Mine is @gerrmich I have known him over 25 years and he is my right arm in keeping my aesthetic pleasures topped up and knowledge base on good design must haves. We both have too many @cyrus_audio boxes for our hifi , love our @thorensphono turntables and @oldtownengland clothes. Here he is in automata form and what a pleasure it was when asked to make this for a very special man. #marchmeethemaker
Day 17 #meetthemaker is Customers & Feedback. Love this from @joaldersondesigns100 and the location photo. I like to see where my automata go and this one looks perfect in its new home. Thanks Jo. #marchmeethemaker
Boomerang is #day15 of #meetthemaker . I have never used it so tried it out on my Frank Nelson automata. Frank lived in Hebden Bridge and was a master automata maker and one of my favourites. I remember coming to interview him here in the 80’s for my thesis , I remember the lovely ham sandwiches and Victoria sponge his wife fed me too. #franknelsonautomata#saucey#marchmeethemaker
Day 4 #meetthemaker is Favourite To Make. My favourite automata is the one made for my favourite Mezzo Soprano Dame Sarah Connolly. Based on her 2009 appearance at The Last Night of the Proms, singing Rule, Britannia dressed as Lord Nelson . I loved getting the detail right. I have been a fan of Sarah’s beautiful singing voice and stage presence for many years. This automata is on YouTube making a performance search Sarah Connolly automata but do watch her real proms performance first. To be hooked yourself and to see what all the fuss is about there is a live stream with Sarah as Ariodante at 4.30 pm today from Vienna https://www.staatsoperlive.com @wienerstaatsoper
One definitely not to be missed if your a Handel and Opera fan. I will certainly be watching it. #automata#sarahconnolly#lordnelson#day4#favouritetomake @automatamaker #marchmeethemaker
#meetthemaker#day3 How You Started #howyoustarted Back in the late 80’s ...as you can see by my youthful looks ! I was doing a degree in Three Dimensional Design. Wood , metal ceramics and glass. It was a fantastic course @msoa_3ddesign . We were set an automata brief as they were having a revival thanks to @cabmech and Sue Jackson. I was instantly hooked and Automata became the main theme for my degree show. #marchmeethemaker
