What a nice review!
Repost from @ultimatemaitai using @RepostRegramApp - We’ve had a lot of Mai Tais on our quest to find the Ultimate Mai Tai. A LOT. But all of them had one thing in common and that was they heavily featured rum as the primary spirit.
Enter the most unique “Mai Tai” so far, the Mai Tai from the High Roller Tiki Lounge in Solvang, CA. @highrollertikilounge Why you say? Because this Mai Tai isn’t made with rum but with wine. In fact, all the tiki drinks at this small but interesting tiki bar are wine-based.
High Roller is attached to Sort This Out Cellar’s tasting room and is located in the back of the storefront. The lounge itself is very small, literally one table, one booth, a couple tables with tools, and four seats at the bar. But, this is one fine destination! The decor here is on point, and the room oozed tiki thanks to the pure Exotica soundtrack and a TV showing a tiki documentary. So ironic this is located in “Danish” Solvang, but absolutely a blast to check out.
And that Mai Tai? Well, let me tell you, I am not a big wine drinker but I have had plenty of Mai Tais worse than this cocktail. It actually tasted like a Mai Tai - albeit with a wine base rather than the rum. I’d love to come back and sample the other drinks or maybe have a few of these bad boys.
If you’re in the area, you definitely need to check out High Roller Tiki Lounge. They also have some fabulous mugs, glasses, and t-shirts. The main room is Vegas and rockabilly themed if that’s your thing.
