What an amazing performance last night by @englishnationalopera of The Marriage of Figaro. My head is still ringing with the sublime music and singing. I honestly couldn’t fault the production. Fabulous stages and costumes, wonderful and very comedic performances by every performer that had everyone roaring with laughter. If you get a chance go. Food for the soul. Oh and huge applause for the signing - it meant that the two gentlemen sitting next to me, who were partially deaf, could still enjoy their love of opera. #englishnationalopera#londoncoliseum#themarriageoffigaro#mozart#opera#foodforthesoul#soinspiring#loveopera#loveyourlife
This is the stunning set at the #londoncoliseum for the @englishnationalopera production of #LaTraviata
Apart from Verdi's wonderful music played by an exceptional orchestra, there's a lively chorus (think men in basques, stockings and suspenders!) and a melodramatic story (of course the heroine falls in love - of course her lover leaves her and of course she dies tragically - it wouldn't be opera if that didn't happen!). And there's this wonderful set.
I was lucky enough to go along the other night for a backstage tour - we got to stand on the stage and one of us tried our hand at conducting the invisible orchestra. Then we had a great dinner in the American Bar which would rival any theatre menu. And, we got to see the opera.
For me it wasn't flawless. For whatever reason I thought Violetta looked like Meghan Markle - not in itself a bad thing - but not quite right in the context of the opera. But, it was tremendous fun - and a recommended night of entertainment. There are just two more showings this season - on Wednesday and Friday so do check for tickets right now if you'd like to see for yourself. Tickets start at £12.00 - and that's for a full cast and orchestra!
