Reworking some log cabin quilt hangings today ✂️ This one has a yellow square in the center, representing light shining through the window. [A red center is also traditional, representing a fire in the hearth.] The surrounding strips represent the sides of the log cabin. The light and dark sides of the block are said to have a few meanings, such as the sunny and shady side of the home and/or the joys and sorrows of life.
4/100 another scrappy log cabin block #100dayproject#LS100daysofcreativejuice#logcabinquilt#patchwork#scrappyheaven#scrapquilt#onthecuttingmat
Thoughts on my creative process: I find it hard to improv piece. My perfectionist brain wants to have the perfect colours/prints and colour values/hues/saturation all perfectly balanced. I prefer sticking to colour families (ish) in blocks like these cos of how my brain gets overwhelmed with too many colours/prints together. Oh and I started dismantling hours of work on my first scrappy project - my style and colour preferences have evolved since I started it 4 years ago.
I wasn't able to make it to Quilt Market but I was super thrilled to send my Reverberance quilt featuring Michael Miller Fabrics latest Marble collection paired with their vibrant Cotton Couture solids 💖💛 Thank you @michaelmillerfabrics
for the chance to play with such pretty fabrics!!
Repost from @michaelmillerfabrics - Quilt Market 2018!!! Here’s a little sneak peek... ❤️❤️❤️ Reverberance Quilt by @shannonfraserdesigns featuring Marble and Cotton Couture & Wyncoop Court by @sassafraslane featuring Hash Dot and Cotton Couture #michaelmillerfabrics#makingitfun#michaelmiller#quiltmarket ❤️❤️❤️ - .
One of the highlights of quilt market was going to see my trainer from my mission to France 23 years ago. We have kept in touch ever since. When I visited her in 1998 she introduced me to @dsquilts way of quilting which changed my life. We went and bought fabric together and started making our quilt that visit. This is hers. Mine is all blues, yellows and oranges. This is the first time I saw it finished. She hand quilted it with free motion quilting designs. I love it so much. She has even gone to a Denyse workshop, so going to do that one day.
She is a professional artist. I was blown away by her art. She is an inspiration to me. I am so grateful to all who share their talents and beauty. .
I included the pics of us on the porch because we tore all the strips for our quilts on that same porch 20 years ago.
So exited to be taking part in Poppy's @cuckooblue and Mairi's @mossmairi #uklowvolumefabricswap , I've started a #logcabinquilt which will be using a lot of low volume fabrics so I'm delighted to be getting some different fabrics to add to my stash👏
Here are some of my suggestions...I like all of these fabrics, each for a different reason😍 which is your favourite girls? I know some have a little colour so no worries if these aren't an option Poppy. Thank you both for hosting this swap,
Such a wonderful idea💕 #superswap#igswappingisthebest#uklowvolumeplusswap#ilovelowvolume
We changed our bed over today so it’s now in winter mode with flannel sheets and at long last my #bclogcabinswapfun quilt is on top, complete, finished, done. It’s only taken since September 6th, 2015 to get it in my bed. Thank you to both @samanthaleeolsen and @riann_g for hosting this swap. I love this quilt and all it represents, the friends near and far that have had a hand in its making. The women who share their stories here, the ones I’ve never met, the ones I follow and those who follow me...all united through a love of sewing and a community that is worldwide and powerful. If you want something done, ask a quilter! The bonus about this quilt is that there’s Bonnie and Camille fabric from Simple Abundance right through to Hello Darling and it’s just beautiful. I wish I could tag all of the block makers but apart from one, that would be you Erin, @mommy2lu, they are a mystery. Maybe one day someone will wonder about the history if this quilt and the story behind it. #quiltyfriendsarethebest#showmethemoda#bonnieandcamille#thankyou#quilt#quilting#logcabinquilt#evenmyhusbandlikesit#itsamammothquilt
I’m all ready for a Friday night cutting party. This is the third version of this particular quilt I’ve made and while it’s one of my favorites, it is a hot mess for cutting. #logcabinquilt#opticalillusion#looks3dtome
1/100 Tentatively and loosely joining the #100dayproject to kick start my creativity and putting my work out there... this morning I went straight to the sewing machine; this is my first go at a modified log cabin block, using only scraps (my favourite) and improv pieced. #improvpiecing#logcabinquilt#scrapquilt#patchwork#textiles#sewing#onthecuttingmat#scrappyheaven
I've taken a break from fb and maybe more comfortable to share that the last few days have been "meh" - little motivation to do anything. I know this is because I've expended a whole load of emotional energy in the past few weeks and now I'm spent. The 100 day project would probably help get me refuelled... even if I only create something on a few of those days. #LS100daysofcreativejuice
Preparing for a big day advice...what to do when you have your little girls communion on Saturday, you have visitors coming, your house is totally topsy turvy, you have absolutely no plan on what you're going to cook, let alone what you're going to wear (it's a bit like mother of the bride...which I'm not really in to)... ...start a new logcabin quilt😂😂😂 Reasons for this are plentiful...
1. You get to cut into your beautiful fabrics
2. You get to use some of you pretty scraps
3. Yay! you get to fussy cut
4. You get to be completely ingrossed in a wonderful project
5. You get to zone out of the reality ahead and be distress👏😂 That's what I did last night after a busy day ferrying the troops around and it felt great!
Totally inspired by Tori's @cloudtori IG feed of #lvlogcabinblocks , I blame you Tori😂! Ive decided to try something different with mine, not sure how it will work out but I'll have fun experimenting👏 '2 more sleeps' my daughter reminded me this morning...stress starting to set in😂
So I finished this beauty recently! Better pictures will follow, but I just had to share it now. It's just the top, mind you. Can't wait to make a plan of how to quilt this.
I started this with a quilt class to make a cabin log sampler, but I quickly figured out that I wanted to combine it with this gorgeous handmade batik I have bought in the Gambia a couple of years ago.
Here come the hastags!
