The sun setting on a truly wonderful weekend. We are just back from a slow, slightly tipsy, wander around the village and through the fields with Lizzie. We have fresh linen on the bed and I'm going to have a lovely fragrant bath before bed. It's the little things, always. Grateful for my happy little life. Hope you are all feeling well rested this evening too. 💕💕💕 #lifeintheslowlane#slowliving#thesimplethings
The sound of typewriter keys was often the “music” I awoke to as a child. With both parents as professional writers and before they got their first computer they worked on a heavy old black typewriter from the dining room. I loved the comforting sound and the piles of manuscript papers that carpeted the room. Books lined the walls and piled high on the floors. Now books are my definition of a great Sunday. My sabbath involves worship, good food, a rest in the garden hammock and a pile of books; usually non fiction about my latest interests. This week it’s greenhouses. What’s in your book pile today? 📷 @theslowtraveler .
Meet Chantelle Rose, the beardless half of Elias&Rose.
She enjoys exploring and learning about new places, particularly their history and architecture. 🕌 🏰 Although occasionally moved to tears by particularly beautiful old buildings, if she can be in a forest then that's where she'll be. 🌲🌲🌲
ORLA // We can’t believe it has been nearly 12 months since this image was taken. This is Orla - she reminds me of an English rose because she is from London and is such a beautiful girl. Featured in this image is our sugar maple + pink paisley quilt - ethically handcrafted to withstand the test of time. Even though it is hand quilted, the multiple washes do not affect the nature of the quilt. It just makes it softer with each wash. Orla’s mum Maya Rose @tales_of_leoandorla is an amazing soul who truly appreciates our quilts so much and has sent us the most kindest feedback for us to truly keep serving and going. She even took the trouble to do a vlog on youtube to list out 9 of her favourite eco friendly brands for Orla’s nursery and we were one of them. Link in bio to check out the video, it is beautiful 👶🏻💁🏻♀️🌿💗
Meet Cain Elias, the taller half of Elias&Rose.
Cain is is a landscape photographer 📷who loves being in beautiful remote places. 🏞 Adventuring around Australia and the world in cars for the last 10 years, living in a van he can stand up in is a dream realised. 🕺
I had a hell of a drive across Nevada, since Caroline was thrilled to see the Speed Limit: 80 signs. But 400 miles of that? I’m tired!! I know she feeds me Lucas and Seafoam like she takes all her own vitamins, but gosh, I was glad to get to her friends Dennis and Kristen’s in Fallon, Nevada. I got to chat with their nice young fellow, Happy Jack, and I gotta say, youth is wasted on the young! He’s Dennis’ 2006 Chevy 2500 diesel with a factory lift that shows off his nice tight mud flaps, and he regaled me with his adventures of getting stuck in muddy playas and deep sand. All I kept thinking was, baby, someday you’re gonna look forward to Sunday drives. I mean, I’m in good shape for a 25 year old van, but my transmission gets tired in all these mountains Caroline and I have crossed the past two weeks. I’m just thankful she knows to drop a gear going up and down anything over 5%. Yesterday, in the Sierras, I had to chase Happy Jack up a 6% grade because some asshole Honda in the right hand lane sped up and wouldn’t let him or me pass! For a middle aged van, I got a nice tight 318 with rock solid compression, but Jack showed off his 6.8 liter and made the pissy little Honda eat his tailpipe.
Tonight, it’s me and Caroline in the Sierras around Hope Valley, and she’s in the back drinking her wine after hiking for a couple of hours. Tomorrow we cross Kit Carson Pass, at 8700 feet. But it’s all downhill from there to Los Osos at sea level, and she promised to wash me when we get to her friend’s house on Monday!
