This exercise is called "back to back listening". It's from a collection of mini tools (#liberatingstructures ) that anyone can use and only requires practice. No certificate. No huge payment plan. Just an investment of your time and willingness to experiment and experience. I've been using them in my team facilitation work and coaching for almost 2 years now and this one was new. And it was a wonderful discovery. My partner and I are trying to experience the music as described by the other one. Can you tell how he felt about it by looking at my body language? How did I feel based on his expression? It's a powerful empathy building experience.
One of the things I found most powerful about #LiberatingStructures is that you can spend 5 mins with a stranger and get such catharsis & insight into your emotions. They don't need to know you or the context.
Experienced it with Drawing Together and Heard Seen Respected, in particular. But also with Back to Back Listening, 9 Whys and Troika Consulting.
#LSeurotour2018 nourishment was so delicious & health-promoting I devoured it without taking photos. ...And same for the literal food - in the photo you can see my second helping 😁 and then I had a burger and dumplings, whoop whoop.
Loved introducing people living in Germany to the amazing (and German) Vego bars. Which I'm desperately trying to stockpile at Berlin prices, which are - natürlich - better than London prices.

Using tools, structures and patterns in meetings allows for true deep conversation to take place - giving space to talk and to listen, and be changed by what you hear. These are just a handful of the many ways to structure time in a group, drawn from #sociocracy30#artofhosting#liberatingstructures among others
The universe is a funny place, ain’t it? 🔮💫💥😱 Last year, I met Michael Quinn Patton in one of his Developmental Evaluation workshops. After learning about #liberatingstructures , he invited me to write a piece for his latest book, Facilitating Evaluation, despite not knowing whether or not I can write a solid sentence (still up for debate). Well, the little beauty just arrived! The book is fabulous and many voices in eval are featured—I really recommend, as much as I struggle to read my own writing 📝😱. If you haven’t, check out Patton’s books on Developmental Evaluation and Principles Focused Eval, both essential reading for those of us working with complexity. Lots of💥💫💗to @keithmccandless2 for his supportive 👀 on the piece.
When you create liberating structures in facilitation, you allow participants to step into the space and take ownership of their voice. Then as a facilitator you just need to manage the process rather than the content. #liberatingstructures#facilitation#openspace

"The nearly universal approach to working together still revolves around centuries-old hierarchical practices. A small group decides and the vast majority is compelled to implement. Though well camouflaged in participatory jargon, authority continues to rule." #liberatingstructures

🎯 #dissaintip of the day: It's highly useful to have the overall purpose of your project clear before diving into the work. We used a #liberatingstructures tool called Purpose-to-Practice, where you define the purpose by answering "why is the work important to participants and larger community?". We recommend putting it in 1 sentence ☝🏼️😏 #dissainstudio#kpt23#purpose#goalsetting
