Chapter 9: The Four Houses
The first week of the summer break went past like a flash and the feud between me and Larry had all blown over and Me and Larry celebrated my eleven birthday where Larry had also promised me he would take me to buy my school supplies at a place called “Diagon Alley” I wondered why we were going to go shopping in an Alley but for a place that sold magic items it seemed normal enough.
On an early Sunday morning, Larry woke me up early and we drove down the streets of London.
“Are you excited?” asked Larry
“Yeah,” I said enthusiastically
“Hey, Larry can you do magic without even knowing it?”
“Yeah, I guess so why”
“Well on Thursday last week I think I might’ve used magic?”
“What makes you think that Tommy” Larry questioned
“Well I was being bullied by Robert when he got lifted up of the ground and started swaying from side to side for no reason."
“Oh yeah, that’s a sign that you're ready to go to Hogwarts school and you need to be taught how to control these things,” replied Larry
“Larry did you know my Father?” I asked
“Well, I and your father go way back. We were both in Slytherin and we were the best of friends but we started to drift apart at the end of our seventh year but we still kept in touch.”
“What’s Slytherin?” I asked
“Oh, I forgot to tell you about houses. Well, houses are where you spend most of your time in, there are four houses Gryffindor for brave, Slytherin for the cunning, Ravenclaw for the brains, and Hufflepuff is… well um it’s kind of for nobody”
“I’ll probably be in Hufflepuff, I’m a nobody,” I said weakly
“How come you were in Slytherin your not that cunning?” I asked
“Well I might not seem like it now but me and your father were back then,” he said with a short laugh.
We then arrived at a pub with a sign hanging above the door saying “The Leaky Cauldron”
Sorry if I offended any Hufflepuffs. It was just used in this chapter but I really love Hufflepuffs!
Chapter 8: Wizard School
I lied down. Besides The information about my parents, I was really excited to go to a wizard school. I wonder what we'll learn like cool magic tricks like how to make stuff disappear and make things reappear. It seemed quite unreal but sounded exciting and this might be a school I might finally make friends.
Chapter 7: Mr and Mrs. Edwards
“Your parents as you know died when you were only just 13 months old. Your mother was a very beautiful and kind woman and your father was a handsome and pleasant man. Your Parents didn't die in a plane crash. Anyways your mother and father were ambushed by death eaters a group of evil wizards when they moved to the muggle world to get away from them They had found and attacked your house.”
“Wait a minute What's a muggle?” I asked.
Muggle sounded like a very odd and offensive word.
“Muggles are what we wizards call normal people. Anyways, In mid August a group of death eaters attacked your house and killed your mother. Your father knowing he was outnumbered ran away with you and gave you to me to make sure you were safe. Because your father was unfit to look after you by himself and he died a month later because of depression due to your mother's death.”
I sat on the couch befuddled Hogwarts might've been a lie but this was just shocking.
“You might've lied to me about Hogwarts but this is just shocking" "I know. I just needed to tell you when you were of age”
“I don't care about being of age how can I ever trust you?”
“I know I’m fine if you never want to talk to me again”
I definitely didn't even want to talk to him I kept thinking over the situation.
“You've lied to me my whole life!”
“I know so to make it up to you I'll take you to buy your books and then you can buy anything you want.”
I did like the sound of that buying anything I wanted in magic shops. But it still didn't take away the pain that was left in my chest of being lied to.
“I just need to lie down I think” I said sleepily
“You better do that and have a long rest.” I walked to my bedroom with all the information spinning in my mind.
Chapter 6: The Letter
“What do you mean that's not how they died,” I said puzzled.
“You better sit down and listen.”
“Why Just give me my letter then we can talk,” I said sternly.
“No! You get your letter after we talk it's important.” Larry said half mad.
“Fine,” I said impatiently
We walked over the couch and sat down.
“Ok. I need to warn you what I'm about to tell you isn't pleasant. It might be hard to process.”
“Just go on!” I said
I really wanted my letter but was really interested in what Larry was going to tell me.
“I’ll start this off with the most important bit your a wizard”
“What do you mean! I thought you had something important to tell me and you sat me down to tell me a joke?”
“I thought you'd say that so go ahead open your letter”
He handed me my letter, at last, I looked at it and turned it over, seeing red wax sealing it shut with the letter H stamped onto it. I dug my fingers under the wax and lifted up the top of the letter and opened it up to find what looked like Parchment.
Dear Mr. Edwards, We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment. Term begins on September 1. We await your owl by no later than July 31. Yours sincerely, Luna Lovegood Deputy
I looked shocked I knew this couldn't be fake it was nowhere near Larry's handwriting so this wasn't a joke. I just looked up at Larry he had a smirk on his face.
“I told you but, don't worry we’ll go and pick up your books and things next week.”
“You knew?” I said outraged for nearly 10 years of my life Larry had lied to me I actually felt mad but happy I don't need to go to any normal school.
“Well yes, but I kept it a secret for your own good.”
“My own good you should’ve just been honest.”
“Just let me explain. About your mother.” He said half interrupting.
I kept quiet I needed to know why I had been lied to for my whole life.
Chapter 5: Mystery
I stood there dumbstruck. Who would be sending me a letter I had no friends. I also wondered the Address was pretty specific. How did the person who sent this knew I was going to be in the living room? Also who sends letters anyway it’s all just emails and texts now a days I looked around desperately trying to find the person who had sent this. I picked it up and looked up to see Larry he had got home from work.
“Hello there Buddy whatcha got there?”
“A letter” I claimed
“From who?” he asked puzzled
“I have no idea?”
"Let me take a look at that"he said
He took the letter and looked at it and a wave of panic flew over his face he obviously knew who it was from.
“What’s wrong! Who’s it from” I asked desperately
This letter isn’t for you they got the wrong address he obviously thought I hadn’t looked at the very specific details yet.
“Yes it is, it says my name clearly there. Thomas Edwards!” I said outraged
“Well you can’t have it!” he said sternly
I was enraged with fury I had looked up to Larry my whole life and now he says I can’t even have something that belongs to me.
“You can’t control me! You’re not even my father!” I said shaking with rage
“Look it’s just for your protection,” he said defensively
“What do you mean!”
“This letter will change your life forever!”
I highly doubted this. I hated how dramatic he was being over a dumb letter. He doesn’t even know what was in the letter.
“Listen he said you need to be ready for what I’m about to tell you,” he said calmly
“Okay! What’s this about” I said angrily
“It’s about your mother and father"
“I know enough about them they died when I was young,” I said I was hating how he was talking to me like I was five.
“I know but there is more to it than that,” Larry said
“I know my parents died in a plane crash. Can you give me the letter now!”
“That’s not how they died.” said Larry
Chapter 4: Summer Break
It is finally summer break and it’s the first of July which means it’s really close to my birthday I got up and opened my windows to see a whole lot of owls sitting on our mailbox. I wondered what Owls were doing sitting on our letterbox at 7 o'clock in the morning don’t they usually come out at night?
Anyways I sat up out of bed and sat at my desk for once I didn’t know what to do. I never really thought what I was going to do in the summer break. I decided to go and eat some breakfast while I think about it.
I entered the living room to find Larry had gone to work. So I poured myself some cereal and turned on the TV. I was sitting on the couch when I heard the doorbell ring I wondered who was there. I then remembered what happened yesterday with Robert and his gang.
“Oh crap,” I thought
What if Robert came to my house and he was going to beat me up. I grabbed a glass from the table to use it as a weapon.
I crept over to the door and opened it ready to strike but I was mistaken no one was there I looked down and saw a Letter addressed to me.
Dear Mr. Edwards
The living room
12, Crossing Way,
Chapter 3: The Flying Boy
All of a sudden Robert started to lift off the ground I was wondering what the heck was going on. I started laughing as he started swaying from side to side in mid air while his thugs were desperately jumping and trying to grab his leg to get him down to the floor surface.
I started to laugh even harder because of how stupid his gang looked jumping around like animals. He started swaying quicker and quicker until he smashed against the wall and then dropped to the ground. He must have hit the wall very hard because he was moaning in pain and a teacher came out asking who did this. It didn’t look good how I was standing over him while he was the floor. It didn’t need explaining to the teacher who was responsible for it.
“Detention Now Edwards!”
Later that day I came back from school late due to my detention half limping I walked past Larry not bothering to cover the big scratch on my arm.
“Holy! What happened to your arm!”
“It’s a long story” I replied miserably
“Was it those bullies” said Larry looking concerned
“Yeah, but I think none of them will be bothering me for a while” I added smartly
“You wouldn’t believe me if I told you”
I wandered back to my room and hopped into bed rethinking all the events that happened at school today and I sniggered every time I thought of it. I’m glad I won’t need to go to Roosevelt Franklin School for Troubled Boys ever again.
Chapter 2: The Bully
The next day I was at school and was pretty happy being the last day of Roosevelt Franklin School for Troubled Boys. I wasn’t really troubled it’s just the only school Larry could afford for me at the time. Summer break was only a day away which I was thrilled about to get away from this dumpy boys school. I walked up to get my books from my locker to find a whole lot of glue smudged and sprayed all over my locker it was on all my books. As I saw this it didn’t take me a second to work out who did this.
I turned around and saw Robert and his gang of so call thugs. Robert walked over and asked with a smug look on his face.
“What happened to your locker Edwards?”
He then started to laugh rudely
“Go to hell Robert” I shouted
Obviously Robert was not gonna take that statement and let me get away with it
He threw me against the lockers and I hit my arm on the edge of the locker door.
I had a big cut across my arm.
“Get up Wimp”
Robert had shouted so loudly that the whole school had their eyes upon us.
I tried to swing at him but it was no use he grabbed my arm and threw me to the ground again. I got up so I was sitting on the ground ready to get back into the fight when the most bizarre thing happened.
Chapter 1: Thomas Edwards
When Geting home from school. I Just had to avoid some of those bullies. My eye hurts a lot thanks to them. Finally, home. I open the door to get in and see my uncle, Larry doing his job as always. He’s kind and nice to me, but he is a bit over caring and overprotective. I try to go to my room secretly so I don’t have to answer some of his question such as “what happened today”
and stuff. After a bit of success, my foot hits a bump in the carpet.
“Hello there Thomas” He said with surprise.
“Hi” I replied trying to shake of the conversation.
“Did those mean kids mess with ya” he asked.
“Nah” I said trying to cover my eye with the sleeve of my shirt.
I did get bullied most of the time at school but I try to stand up for myself but then just to be knocked down by some older and tougher school kid. I didn’t want to admit I was being bullied at school to my step father after all he was very protective at times.
He seemed to always be like that with me.
I continued to my room which was not the best as it was a bit small but I think it’s cozy that way. I thought sleeping in a small room was a nice place to rest.
Finally after a long day of my stepfather's protective ways and my hard time at school. I didn’t enjoy my life at the moment as I stared at the cracked beige ceiling of the room. I looked out the window to see the heavy rain drops being pelted against the house. When I started to doze off to sleep my last thought was there must be something more to my life than sitting in this bedroom all alone.
