It's unpopular opinion time. Yes. Peter Jackson's King Kong is the BEST Kong movie. As in Better than the original 1933 film, better than the 76 remake, better than Skull Island, and any other of the forgettable ones made throughout the decades.
Why do I say that? Well it's one word. Substance. While the other films all had ok characters, and solid narratives, Jackson's film gives us reasons to really care about all that is going on. It's not just a simple monster movie, but a movie about friendship. It has a real and meaningful relationship between Kong and the obligatory pretty girl. The obligatory pretty girl is also a really great character. And I'm not denying the greatness of some of the other movies. The original film was a cinematic milestone, and deserves lots of praise. But if that movie was made today, just with updated effects, it would not be as well recieved. Which is why I feel Jackson's is better.

Day 2: A night of rainfall left the steep jungle mountains as muddy as can be, which only made our trek more treacherous and fun. Not a single person--besides our nimble-footed, sandal-wearing guides--made it through the day without falling on their ass. Whatever breath we had left at climb's end was taken away in awe of these massively beautiful caves hidden among the mountaintops. When we weren't climbing, we swam through rivers that cut through the caves. Imagine swimming in pure darkness while bats swoop down inches away from your head. And to top it all off, we spent the night camping in a cave, playing cards and bonding over stories of past shenanigans. Quite a day, I must say 😅
