On theme with #green we read this classic #drseuss and it got me thinking about what our theme for next week should be. Right now I’m leaning towards a #suessical theme but let me know what you want to see in the comments ⬇️
Mom Tip in Action: Read Aloud to your Children
Hi Mamas! It’s @rachelmarayajones here and I cannot wait to share with you one of my most favorite ever of all time mom tips - reading out loud to your kids! Practically speaking, study after study has shown that reading aloud to our children introduces them to a richer vocabulary, promotes early literacy and improves grammatical understanding. Wow! For simply those reasons alone all parents should be reading out loud to their children.
However, as Christian moms, there are so many other vital ways reading time can be the most meaningful time of your day. We can teach our kids about Jesus through the books we read, powerful conversations can arise and teaching opportunities are plentiful while reading. Also, the intimacy and closeness developed while your child is snuggled up next to you is priceless. Lastly, it is FUN! Truly it is!
Pictured are some of our family’s favorites. Please let me know if you would like any other suggestions! Currently, I read a lot of chapter books with my girl's ages 7, 8, and 10, but I also have an almost two-year-old boy so I am in the toddler board book world as well. 😊 And what books have you read to your children that your family enjoyed?
Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain
From Jesse: I like this book because I think it relates a little bit to my life (in a different time period of course). I like the witty humor of the author, and the incredible ingenuity of Tom Sawyer. I would recommend this to children my age and younger, because it is such a fun and delight. I’d recommend this an adult to remind them that, however they are now, everyone started as a child.
From Kelly: I received this audible book when I bought the kindle version on Amazon. Little known tip: When you buy a kindle book, especially a classic, on amazon, amazon often gives you the option to add the audible version for a very reduced price. Listening to this version narrated by Nick Offerman was a delight! We started listening to it as a family, but Jesse was so drawn into the story that he finished listening to it by himself. Although the vocabulary can be a bit challenging, even Joey followed the story, and I often heard giggling and snickers while we listened.

“Up till then he had been looking at the Lion's great front feet and the huge claws on them; now, in his despair, he looked up at its face. What he saw surprised him as much as anything in his whole life. For the tawny face was bent down near his own and (wonder of wonders) great shining tears stood in the Lion's eyes. They were such big, bright tears compared with Digory's own that for a moment he felt as if the Lion must really be sorrier about his Mother than he was himself. "My son, my son," said Aslan. "I know. Grief is great. Only you and I in this land know that yet. Let us be good to one another.”

We tried to pick our top 5 favorite books in our personal library but couldn’t cull down past 9😬. My favorite is The Year at Maple Hill Farm and Arley says hers is Make Way for Ducklings. I would highly recommend all of these for any “little kid library”. #readgoodbooks

We started a new read aloud today and I must admit I’m pretty excited about it 📚💕 What is your current read aloud? I’m always on the hunt for our next book 😊 Also if you haven’t tried this Ginger Turmeric herbal tea from Trader Joe’s, you should. It’s amazing!
I went through a serious obsession with Raggedy Andy and his creator, Johnny Gruelle, between 1st and 2nd grade. I can’t tell you what I did yesterday or what I’m supposed to be doing now, but I have vivid memories of racing to the Gruelle section of the “local” library (mom was on the board of directors) to grab one of the tattered copies that I had already read numerous times alone and with my folks. The drawing was one of many my mom kept that I must have had all over the house, the ceramic was a joint effort between mom and I, and the book is a recent score in excellent shape for a few bucks. This favorite edition was published by Bobbs-Merrill in 1960. #books#literature#bibliophile#johnnygruelle#illustrators#illustrations#kidsbooks#kidsclassics#raggedyann#raggedyandy#bobbsmerrill#libraries
