The day of our 1st peak summit attempt has finally arrived. Last night, we were given ample amount of toffees, dry fruits ,cake, biscuits and juices. We were given a lesiure time to relax and chill. .
Morning 4.am, we woke up with an excitement and fear. We checked our rucksacks and assembled at 5.am for the breakfast. At sharp 6.am, the whistle blew and we stood for fall-in. Our instructors gave a basic idea about the route and we started moving. We crossed a river and tried hard to maintain the rhythm. We had a steep ridge to climb and soon our technical climb began. Our instructors were on their toe, constantly reminding us about the time.
Many of the trainees were having high altitude breathing problems. Exerting ourselves as much as we can and not walking back, we tried hard to capture the peak. I was little slow today. With me was our sherpa, constantly pushing me and asking the reason for me being slow today. Somehow we reached the base of the B.C. Roy peak. 17,200 feet, just a little away from the peak, me and 11 other trainees were instructed to start descending.
I was heartbroken. I tried convincing, but it was of no use. My eyes were full of tears, but I somehow smiled, thanks to the other trainees and Sherpas. After resting for 5minutes, we decided to descend. It was not easy to descend on own. On fixed rope paths, we started thinking of techniques to get down. Each of the 12 trainees, supported each other, applied all the knowledge and techniques we learned throughout the training and reached base camp. .
I went inside girls room and let my emotions flow. In few hours our successful summit group returned. I ran to congratulate all.
My instructor clearly saw the gloom on my face. He congratulated me for the height gain and told me that ' Himalayan Mountains call you. It was not your call this time. Keep working hard and you will get a call.'
Yes, I pledge to come again mountains, to reach the heights that I wish to.Cause I know I can be strong, stronger than what I was, stronger than what I am.
Amazing trip to Athens with an amazing crew is a great way to cap off my 3+ years wearing the Richard Tyler collection. Our trip back to JFK was one of the best I’ve had in a long time and it’s all thanks to these awesome people!
These were my first wings and this uniform will always hold a special place in my heart. On Tuesday, we move forward to a new generation and a new style with our awesome new Zac Posen uniforms. .
