Made in very small quantities this Cape Vintage Petit Verdot 2014 has all the Christmas cake prune sweet blackberry and smokiness you’d expect from a Port styled wine. Will pair with most desserts and hard strong flavored cheeses - an ideal after dinner drink. Made by the Perolds in Prince Albert who are definitely worth visiting if you are passing through the area.
Trip down #MemoryLane . 28 July 2014,the day we left #Stellenbsoch for #Winnipeg . I spent the morning walking around #Stellenbosch saying goodbye to familiar faces. This is my dearest AuntyNellie, one of the check-out controllers at the #Checkers store on the Cnr of Dorp and, Mill St, #Stellenbosch . It used to be a #OKBazaars but was converted to a #Checkers in 1998 if memory serves correctly. I was there every day of my life. So was Aunty Nellie. Such a wonderful and kind person.I often wonder how she is doing. So, @checkers_sa, please send my regards to her, as well as the other Aunty Nelly, and Uncle Sammy and his crew in the Butchery...
Time to share some of the actual Tankwa Karoo road and walking conditions with you. The most descriptive words: dry, hot, hard. The roads were all 3. And the temperature too! The walk takes you on the R355, "The Forgotten Highway" from Calvinia to Ceres through sheep farmlands. The farmlands are so large though that the sheep are notoriously hard to spot. Some of the lands are irrigated by damming and flooding, but mostly its very dry. The roads vary from light in colour to almost black in places, from smooth and worn to gravelly and dusty. From scenic to barren. The heat is mostly inescapable, specifically in the heart of the Tankwa where trees exist only in the imagination. The roads are hard on the feet, and in the last pic, having walked 180km from Calvinia, you will notice me walking in slipper boots 😂. But having said all this....I'd love you to just for a minute picture the incredible silence & calm. Where you have time to notice scurrying insects and your biggest concern for the day is finding shade. The peace is indescribable and i hope you get to go there and experience it.
