Hace muy poquito no conocía esta muñeca, ni siquiera que tuviera una historia en particular hasta que participé en un reto de artesanas el cual consistía en crear nuestra propia versión de la #raggedyann respetando la esencia de esta hermosa niña de ficción.
Me encantó tanto hacerla como el resultado. Creo que sus ojos transmiten algo de esa dulzura y la triste historia en la cual está inspirada.
La puse a la venta con un poco de dolor, pero estoy segura que alguien la apreciará tanto como yo y que tendrá motivos para arrullarla. -------
HISTORIA DE LAS MUÑECAS " RAGGEDY ANN"
Raggedy Ann es un personaje de ficción creado por el escritor e ilustrador Johnny Gruelle, originario de Illinois (1880-1938), en una serie de libros para niños pequeños.
El personaje fue creado en 1915 como muñeca y presentado al público en el libro de 1918 "Las historias de Raggedy Ann" (Rageddy Ann Stories). Raggedy es una muñeca de trapo con vestido blanco y con pelo rojo de lana. En 1920 se introdujo el personaje de su viejo amigo y compañero de juegos, Raggedy Andy, vestido en ropa marinera y gorra.
Gruelle creó a Raggedy Ann para su hija, Marcella, cuando ella le trajo una vieja muñeca de trapo hecha a mano y él le dibujó un rostro en ella. De su estantería sacó un libro de poemas de James Whitcomb Riley y combinó los nombres de dos poemas, "The Raggedy Man" (El hombre harapiento) y "Little Orphan Annie" (Annie la pequeña huérfana). Dijo, "¿Por qué no podemos llamarla Raggedy Ann?". Marcella murió a la edad de trece años después de ser vacunada en la escuela contra la viruela, sin el consentimiento de sus padres. Las autoridades culparon su muerte a un defecto cardíaco, pero sus padres culparon la vacunación. I went through a serious obsession with Raggedy Andy and his creator, Johnny Gruelle, between 1st and 2nd grade. I can’t tell you what I did yesterday or what I’m supposed to be doing now, but I have vivid memories of racing to the Gruelle section of the “local” library (mom was on the board of directors) to grab one of the tattered copies that I had already read numerous times alone and with my folks. The drawing was one of many my mom kept that I must have had all over the house, the ceramic was a joint effort between mom and I, and the book is a recent score in excellent shape for a few bucks. In 1914, Johnny Gruelle illustrated the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. The afterword of this 1987 translation gives an interesting description of the art he created for these stories: "Gruelle's black and white drawings add a new dimension to the tales because of his introduction of American motifs and settings that would be familiar to his readers. Gruelle sought to emphasize the humor and optimism of the Grimms tales by choosing scenes that captured both the mood of each tale and the manner in which a child might view the scene. As in his Raggedy Ann and Andy books, Gruelle contrasted the figures of good and evil in his line drawings in a way that induced an atmosphere of hope. For Gruelle, a fairy-tale illustration always had to point to the possibility of attaining a happy end."
