South Africa is the most beautiful country I have been to. Canada is also hugely underrated. Honor Blackman
Our first stop on the southern coast of South Africa was Jeffreys Bay. Located in the Eastern Cape, just about 75 km southwest of Port Elizabeth, Jeffreys Bay is known for its world renowned beaches and surfing waves.
According to the Jeffreys Bay Tourism website, the town got its name after Captain Jeffreys who sailed his cargo ship on the East Coast of South Africa on trading expeditions in the 1840’s. It was during one of his trips that an epidemic disease broke aboard, forcing him to land his anchor in a place filled with opportunities.
Soon after he and the others arrived, he built a primitive port on what is now the main beach. Captain Jeffreys also built his first house, a double-story mansion that people called the “White House” in 1850. His family became the first White family to settle in the town.
History aside, Jeffreys Bay is home to some great spots and offers a good place to unwind from the fast paced city life. A number of beaches are bound to keep anyone entertained with kitesurfing, surfing and windsurfing. We learned how to surf there and the entire experience was amazing.
Check how we did in this coastal town on our Youtube channel. You can find the link to it in our bio.

We've been cleaning out our house and it's a nature lovers dream - so beautiful here - although honestly we like some of the animals more than others. When I hear a scream emanating from the house the possibilities are endless. Current count - six Rain/Huntsmans spiders (catch and release), one nice sized boomslang or tree snake on the roof (catch and release far away as because it's not a bite you want), four wasps (not released sorry), three local Bushbuck (sang to by @blueeyedbutton), a massive ant heap on the path to the beach (left alone for now), every bird known to man and one shangalolo millipedes (taken as a pet). Now for some waves, possibly a solo foil out front at high tide looks insane. #southafrica#eaterncape#jeffreysbay . #paradisebeach#travel#southafrica#nature#spiders#snakes
Repost from @rollthebones_za .
Soulful sea dog Bruce Gold is the archetype of a South African surf legend.
Way back in the 60s, he and many others discovered and camped out at the mythical right hand point break named ‘Supertubes’ in Jeffrey’s Bay.
A motley and colorful crew collected in the lineup and around the campfire in those rebel days and tales of smuggling, drug running and all sorts of illicit activities were told and discussed. -
Bruce has seen it all and out of it he’s emerged as some sort of surf soaked zen monk. Look out for him if you go to Jbay, have a chat and then when you watch him ride a wave you might a glimpse back into the wild days of surfing. -
