There’s pictures of her she loves and some she HATES. This is not her favorite but it is mine cuz this smile, this spirit and this joy is the actual essence of my mother in one picture. She’s the strongest woman I know and I can only hope I’m half the mama she is. Happy Mother’s Day to the most wonderful woman and the best mama in the world #ILoveYou#MyMamaBear#IWantToBeYouWhenIGrowUp#HappyMothersDay #❤️
Yours was the first embrace I ever knew and I thought "this is safety." Yours was the voice I heard most often and I thought "this is language." When you praised my accomplishments I knew what pride was and when you gently took me aside for a reprimand, I knew correction without shame. Yours was, and is, the shoulder I cry on. You are the person I most wanted to be like in my life. You are there for the best moments, the most loveable sides of me; but you are crucially there in the midst of the tempestuous moments and the worst versions of myself.
You are my mom. And I still want to be you when I grow up.
@jacquelynlownds Happy Mothers Day
In honor of #mothersday2018 & #mmmay18 I’m posting the handmade jewelry of my mother-in-law, Ruth Betty G (#MyRBG ).
Graduating college at 20 years of age on a scholarship from her synagogue, she attended medical school where she was 1 of 2 women in her class. Ruth went onto become a pediatric nephrologist in Philadelphia and raised 3 amazing human beings with her loving husband of 60+ years, Marv.
Ten years ago, at the age of 77, she took up jewelry making. I have been the lucky receipt of several of her pieces. In addition to making jewelry, she registers voters, leads a poetry club, participates in several book groups and is learning Yiddish. Happy Mother’s Day to one of my favorite women! #iwanttobeyouwhenigrowup#handmadejewelry#grandmothersforobama
Doing a deep re-reading of my dear mentor Alessandra Lynch’s beautiful book today. Her work represents an intense emotional labor of love, painful truth, and advocacy. I am so proud to see her work receiving the critical attention and admiration it deserves— this book is a timely, much-needed inspiration. I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone who has a love for poetry, a passion for advocacy, a heart for empathy, and an impulse to connect powerfully and beautifully to the experience of being a survivor.
For those of you who didn’t already know, April was Sexual Assault Awareness Month. I’m so grateful for the work I was able to do to support @saraminor08 and @sarahbarnesdiaz this past month and YEAR ROUND as they have fought the frequently uphill battle for effective, trauma-informed sexual assault prevention and response on campus. As seems to be the case in any field and in every setting that the most critical work is done behind the scenes by badass women, often without audience or applause. I am so privileged to have just glimpsed the comprehensive, taxing work these women do every single day. •
Learning from all three of these intelligent, empathetic, incredibly hardworking, and resilient female role models throughout my college career has hands-down been the most empowering, important experience of my life. They have had an enormous impact on the lives of so many survivors on our campus. I am a better student, friend, worker, advocate, and woman for having watched them give their physical, mental, and emotional energy to advocate for themselves and for the strong, courageous survivors they care about. •
Humble, loving words from the Professoressa herself on the Acknowledgements page of Daylily Called It a Dangerous Moment: “I feel intense appreciation and admiration for my students who bravely open their hearts and help me to do the same.” Thank YOU, A, for all that you continue to teach me and us. Thank you, Sara, for your sincere, whole-hearted, survivor-centered service and for your refreshing transparency. And thank you, Sarah, for your unmatched expertise, grit, integrity, and admirable composure in all that you do. THANK YOU.
PROUD BROTHER POST
This girl right here graduates from college today! Well, she’s actually an overachiever and finished a semester early. However, today we celebrate not just this incredible milestone, but the woman she’s grown up to be. A woman filled with Christlike character, honor, and integrity. A woman that cares for and loves others deeply. She radiates beauty, both inside and out. She is creative, artistic, talented, and a PHENOMENAL photographer! (Seriously. Hit her up for all of your photography needs.)
Tina, I’m so proud of you! I always have been. Thank you for loving me even when it’s been difficult to and for setting an example of the kind of life I want to live. Go be a world changer. I’m excited to see all the ways in which God continues to bless you and use you in this next chapter of your life. I love you!
Pinch me, did this really happen? SO honored to have danced next to these INSANELY talented and accomplished professional dancers this past weekend at the Daytime Emmys!!! I left SO inspired and with even more passion for dance, because of them. Thank you all so much! @moveyoutoinspire @jonasuber12 @alex_francoeur @cmalyia @missyellowdiamond
This is Mila and I love her. She's come to 2 of our shows in the last 2 months. She just turned 7 years old and she's an aspiring musician. For her birthday, she invited all her friends over for an Open Mic Night (gah!) at her house, which she hosted. Last night, she came out to @joyikemusic and I's show at Rittenhouse SoundWorks with her mom. While listening to the music, she drew these pictures for us! ❤️ 😩 *My heart* This is the future of creativity and music making in America. And the future is bright! #TheAmazingMila#IWantToBeYouWhenIGrowUp#NeverTooYoung
I’ve been trying to think of a caption that is good enough for Ava for such a long time and at this point I’m convinced there are no words that describe how wonderful she is #mostfavoritehuman#iwanttobeyouwhenigrowup
I’m going to miss this beauty ... she was such an asset to our salon but she is reaching for more goals in her life .... she going to make a great teacher to those little ones ...wishing you the best in your newest journey @steph__brownnn Love you and can’t wait to watch you reach for the stars #iwanttobeyouwhenigrowup#workbestie#daughterfigure
Throwing it back to when I’d see your face at work and I knew it would be a great day💖 Happy Birthday Becky!! Cheers to you, your accomplishments and our never ending friendship😚🥂 I love you! 💋 #iwanttobeyouwhenigrowup
This One. The One I want to be when I grow up. The One who when she sees me having a morning mommy meltdown over forgetting the grocery bag at the store yesterday with the blueberries and bananas (because every “good mom” serves fruit for breakfast, right?), says “Mom, it’s okay. You are doing great. Just take a deep breath and stop being so hard on yourself”. Thank you @kari_mitchem. Always ❤️.
I don’t know how I landed the privilege to be surrounded by so many incredible female business owners and leaders in Fort Worth. I often feel like the annoying little sister asking 1,000,000 questions and soaking up every bit of wisdom they have to share. There’s no clear-cut manual on this entrepeneur life and it is hard. Yesterday, was such a special treat to see two more strong women @alchemypops and @thegreenhouse817 open their new retail spaces! It was just another reminder that Moxxie will be there someday too. It just takes time... and your village behind you encouraging you along the way. CONGRATS YOU TWO!! You inspire me!
I am so glad I used you for a ride to pelicans and your popularity sophomore year of high school. Your friendship has meant more to me than you know! I’m so glad we could feed off of each other and I truly feel like we have made each other better (and worse) people. Happy Birthday to the friend that can take tequila shots like it’s nothing, will spontaneously have cringe photoshoots just for one ig picture, & shares my love for humor and most importantly açai. I hope 21 treats you well and I can’t wait for more years of friendship with you. 🖤 #fitupinireland#youaretheloveofmylife#kkarli#ccarly#happybirthday#iwanttobeyouwhenigrowup
“A girl should be two things: who & what she wants.” I am unbelievably fortunate to have truly amazing women surrounding me in every single facet of my life. These women are intelligent, kind, fierce, hilarious, compassionate forces of nature that teach me every day and love me more than I deserve.
My previous boss and his wife founded Junior Achievement China 25 years ago. Now the organization has impacted millions of young people. Every time I talk with them I feel being heard, understood and inspired. #iwanttobeyouwhenigrowup
