Today’s the day, we explained a smidge more in depth about babies and birth. This is a great whimsical and inclusive book to start with. Tonight we’ll watch some birth videos the lovely @newlittlelife.doula suggests in her latest blog post! #37weeks#almostdone And to complete the circle of life, with birth comes death -> scroll to see #jaynecobb chowing down on his mouse #ballpython#ivoryballpython
As most of you know, this is Gus! He is a 10 month old ivory ball python.
Here’s some educational info about ball pythons! Male ball pythons grow to be about 4-5 feet in length, females grow to be about 5-6 feet. Since ball pythons are rather slow growers, it will take them about 3 years to reach full its in captivity, 4-5 years in the wild. Ball pythons are found in the forest lands of central & Western Africa, they usually live in rodent holes or termite mounds. They get their common nickname “balls” due to their defense mechanism of curling up into a tight ball and hiding their heads when they feel threatened. They are crepuscular, which means they are mostly active around dawn and dusk. They have an average life span of 20-30 years, the longest living on record was 48 years old. No two are alike, each one has its own unique patterns and colors and there are over 500 different ball python morphs (and still counting). Things I want to talk about, common misconceptions.
My ball pythons will never “size me up” to eat me. Any type of snake eating a person is extremely unlikely, the human body is too much of an obstacle for them since we have such broad shoulders. If I hear one more person tell me that my snakes are going to “size me up” and eat me one day, I’m going to lose my mind. A ball python has never killed a human. Ball pythons are not “slimy”, they actually have small scales that are smooth to touch. Snakes do not do well in pairs, they can get defensive and harm each other.
Ball pythons are extremely docile and they make wonderful pets!
I hope you all enjoyed that little bit of ball python education. 🤓
