Great exercise to help strengthen the snatch receiving position as well as develop upper body and  overhead strength , balance and accuracy overhead. . 
This exercises requires you to have  a deep squat with upright torso . If youโ€™re having trouble getting into this position, you can still do the exercise by starting in a quarter squat, slowly increasing range of motion and getting a little lower each set. .
Great primer before your session keep sets / reps low and gradually build weight each set.

Today was on one those days were I thought training would go really well and I'd knock out a pb somehow on one of the lifts??๐Ÿ˜‚
But instead, no pbs were hit, there were some misses and training just felt hard  again? numbers felt heavy that before, wouldn't be.

When I got home I started to think about the euros and the commonwealth games that are on at the moment.
I thought about the people competing and some of them who I competed against in previous international comps like europeans and U23s 
I Thought about how much they've progressed more then me and how little I have?? When I competed last against these girls we were lifting pretty much the same weight and now they are lifting +10kg more then me in each lift?
Its so easy to be hard on yourself when thinking about those things.
Why aren't I that good? Why are they over there and not me? Im clearly just not good enough.

But then I decided to really think about it?
All those girls I competed against are all full time athletes, they train twice a day nearly everyday, some are sponsored and have pre made meals made up, they go to training camps every few weeks, they are all funded by there associations so they get the opportunity to compete internationally often, they train with other full time athletes so they are motivated and pushed everyday for training.

So maybe if I had those kind of opportunitys, I'd be lifting the same as those girls?
And actually that made me feel better! 
It made me think that maybe im not actually as bad as I think I am for what I can do? And what i have?
So obviously im not going to progress like the other girls but ill still progress, and I don't have the opportunities they have but fuck,  I'm giving it my best shot with what I have๐Ÿคฃ
Once I accepted this it was easier to not feel so shit about training. Today I still hit 90% of my best lifts...Yeah they felt hard๐Ÿ˜… but fuck it, still got them๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ .

Anyone who lifted in Saturday would have seen @cassidyduberry taking photos. These photos will be sold by @weightliftingireland. Each individual who lifted will have the opportunity to purchase their collection of pictures for โ‚ฌ10. This fee means that @weightliftingireland and @cassidyduberry can continue to supply photos at more competitions in the future. In #China, weightlifters use a variety of #squat assistance variations to target weaknesses and improve coordination. One variation is the wide stance partial #backsquat which helps strengthen the glutes and adductors without taxing the knees and quads (which are already used heavily in most #weightlifting movements). Liang Chenxi (69kg at the time) performed sets with 250kg after his heavy #cleanandjerk session during the 2015 summer #mastrengthcamp.

The #strength benefit from this movement carries over to a stronger start position since we teach to push the knees out rather than back. Additionally, the glutes are very strong hip extensors especially during the start position and extension. So if you are weak or lack coordination in these positions, try this as part of your accessory work. WHY I COMPETE

Fresh from Irish Weightlifting Nationals ๐Ÿ€ this day last week I thought I would share the WHY behind WHY I compete. 
1๏ธโƒฃFor accountability to myself and others. When I sign up for a competition that is 10-12weeks away my training structure and focus becomes a priority. No missed sessions, recovery and nutrition get extra attention to become better dialled in and my body always thanks me for itโณ

2๏ธโƒฃThe adrenaline rush of hearing 3-2-1 GO or Glen your UP is something that can only be experienced through competition and I love it๐Ÿ’œ

3๏ธโƒฃTo walk the walk. I coach CrossFit & Weightlifting classes and although most of my PT clients wouldn't have an interest in competing I feel it's important to have the competition experience for future members/clients who may want to compete to be able to pay forward my knowledge and lessons from experience gained to help guide them through the big step of competing๐Ÿ“

4๏ธโƒฃBeing part of communities of likeminded people. Both the Irish Weightlifting and CrossFitting communities are very small so getting everyone in a room/arena together is rare but it's great when it happens to catch up with friends and make new ones๐Ÿ‘‹

5๏ธโƒฃI enjoy testing myself both physically and mentally. Weightlifting especially is such a psychologically challenging sport and always one where things can go wrong quickly if you don't have your mind in the right place so being on top of that is a must to make your lifts๐Ÿ’†๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ
