I was able to get in baby snuggles not just once, but twice today, and I won an awesome doTerra basket while I visited with friends at the Lundstad Family Benefit. It was so nice to see so many amazing people, who worked so hard to make this event happen. It honestly warms my heart and gives me renewed faith in humanity. I ended the afternoon making my first ever batch of cold brew coffee. We have to wait 24 hours to see how I did there. As I sit in the back yard about to read TIME's Special Edition, 100 Most Healing Foods, the neighborhood is a buzz. People out and about with tanks and shorts walking their dogs. Kids playing outside, dare I say it?!? I can't believe spring is finally here!!! #friendshelpingfriends#happyday#2timebreastcancersurvivor#cancersucks#veteran#eskimo#inuit#plantbased#blessed#godisgood
Yesterday I participated in the most exiting lecture about the Qilaat (drum), by Angakkoq (Shaman) @John Angajooraq Nattoralissuaq, with my dear friend @ivaloll. I am so thankful for having the opportunity to learn more about the traditions of my culture and what the drum also stands for.

Qilaat - Hjertets Rytme.
When your innocence is stripped from you, when your people are denigrated, when the family you came from is denounced and your tribal ways and rituals are pronounced backward, primitive, savage, you come to see yourself as less than human. That is hell on earth that sense of unworthiness. That's what they inflicted on us.

GO SEE THIS FILM. READ THE BOOK. Read other Indigenous Literatures.. See other Indigenous stories/films. If you're a settler like me, it is one of the very least acts you can offer. Go face truths too many settlers are ignoring, downplaying, dismissing, whitewashing, and even denying. Then visit TRC.ca and learn what more you can be doing. Read the 94 recommendations by the #TRC . Take the time. We owe it to #FirstNations , #Métis and #Inuit who share these lands, many of which are unceded territories. Don't forget that many of us live on #stolenlands at the expense of stolen children and stolen childhoods via government-sanctioned #residentialschools system and #Canadian government-sanctioned #SixtiesScoop ; #Canada has committed #culturalgenocide . We continue to. Settlers need to make a concerted effort to make a true and proper reconciliation, including financially and starting right at the top with our Prime Minister #Trudeau who is back-pedaling from campaign promises he made to #FNMI . We need to send a message to him and keep reminding each other.
Had an absolutely wonderful night at Eastern Edge Art Gallery for Melissa Tremblett and John Nicholas Jeddores exhibition "tet; mâni; ute; here" curated by Joanna Barker. Great to see so many amazing friends here tonight! Here's a photo of Melissa Tremblett , Candice Hopkins and myself with Jerry Evans peeking behind us taken by Hannah Morgan! #indigenousart#melissatremblettart#easternedgegallery#ktaqamkuk#mikmaq#innu#inuit
It was a busy week in Ottawa getting oriented with returning and new board members of Pauktuutit. I’ve shared that I am the youth representative for Pauktuutit, 2018-2020, and I’m excited for this role and will be committed to learning from their leadership, guidance and mentorship. One important meeting to highlight is our meeting with Honourable Philpott, Minister of Indigenous Services to discuss mutual goals and our vision and priorities as Pauktuutit is approaching 35 years. The organization was also acknowledged in the House of Commons by MP Yvonne Jones for the incredible work they have done and continue to do for Inuit women, youth, children, and their communities across Inuit Nunangat. It was an incredible week and was such an honour to be surrounded by strong and hardworking Inuit women. We shared many short term and long term goals, as well as many laughs and tuktu! #pauktuutit#inuitwomen#inuityouth#inuit
