LAPHROAIG 10YO CASKSTRENGTH 58,1%ABV - Batch 9 -
6/10 #aprilopen10 (samples discovery)
NOTE DE DÉGUSTATION SUBJECTIVE :
An evening with some awesome Willett whiskies thanks to Whiskey Hunt Australia and Manu at Cerbaco. Discovered new drams, met new people and ended the night with the very special 14year old Willett Rye, hailing from barrel 1202 and bottled at a hefty 59.4%.
Last but certainly not least… 🥃
In the spirit of exploration, our Distiller’s Selection 46% releases are hand-chosen by our distillers as whiskies that are daring and different, showcasing unique flavours outside of Lark house style.
LDF1362 is a nuanced, light but complex spirit that has one foot in the old world and another in the new. Pale gold, subtle and silky, it has a beautiful Bourbon cask nose with a creamy, confectionary sweetness and a slight mineral saltiness. A delicate and distinctive dram.
Available around the country from May 1st, 2018

A morning with Dr Bill Lumsden -
Having spent the previous evening with Dr Bill and fellow whisky enthusiasts at @binnysbev I was super excited to spend some time with Bill discussing and sharing our passion for whisky!
Dan met me in the lobby of the Ritz Carlton and we went up to Bill’s room. He had hand picked a few drams for us to share. Bill has so much energy and enthusiasm for malts; we had barely sat down; as he started talking about Glenmorangie’s wood policy. We start with the new bottling of Astar.
How do you get your ideas for the private Editions?
There is no hard and fast idea! Sometimes I gets the ideas from my team, it comes from all sorts of places. He goes on to tell me, how Michael Jackson has inspired him in quite a lot of ways and he has a copy of his original world guide to whisky book. In that book there was something mentioned about Glenmorangie which deeply intrigued me and I spent years trying to find evidence of that at Glenmorangie. I can’t reveal too much but that obsession I developed with it has led me to make the next Private Edition 10 which will come out next year. Well Bill, I’m sure all the whisky fans, myself included are excitedly awaiting.
How long have you worked with Glenmorangie?
What’s your favorite part of the production process?
When I have started an experiment and its getting towards completion, sitting down and sampling barrels and putting a recipe together in my lab is the most exciting part.
Although I love primary production being I was the distiller manager the
demands of the job, PR and Board responsibilities does not enable me to spend as much time as I would like.
Sometimes, an experiment leads to other things - Sonalta was an experiment on how the classic Glenmo spirit behaves with PX casks. It was the first and smallest release of the private edition release. The real result of the experiment was I made a change to the recipe of the Lasanta to add PX casks along with Oloroso casks for the finishing.
How many bottles do yo own?
I don’t actually no, at least 500, perhaps more.
Up until a few years ago, it was cataloged and put into boxes but lately I haven’t been able to keep up.
A 23 yr cask strength Longrow?.....um, YES!
A wonderful sipper with lots of vanilla, lavinder, and subtle honey notes greeting the palette.
Keep tasting, keep exploring....
Alright.... Guys ... Gals... This pour is just absurd. And @springbank1828 , you guys are just on another level. Springbank 9 Gaja Barolo, bottled at 54.7%. Matured first 4 years in refill ex-Bourbon casks then 5 years in first fill Gaja Barolo wine casks. I know this bottling isn't being made anymore , but God damn, it's sensational. I first saw this on @day_dramming feed. He kept raving about hiding it from his friends , and how it was probably his favorite he's ever had , at that time. So after having some other Springbank bottlings, I decided to find this one . I found it at auction and paid what most would pay for an 18-21 year scotch... And I'm glad I got it. First pour notes. .
NOSE - When I first stuck my nose in, I thought this was a Longrow. Seemed a little more peated and had a similararity to the RED series. Then the differences started arising. Smoke fades away, and an orange vanilla comes to say hello. White Sugar Cane .. then mango. Some things I'm not even sure how to describe. It's beautiful. Like a sweet , but tart, marmalade. My goodness. More oranges, tangerines. A little punchy, like tropical punch.
PALATE - Smoke, then tropical fruits, creamy. Oranges, tangerines , nectarines. Peaches come in. Then oranges with vanilla ice cream. It has this Orange vanilla sherbet explosion in the back end of the palate and after swallowing. But it's not too sweet. It has a little tartiness too. In-Fk-Ng-Credible. Theres so much going on here, so complex. Theres a lot more here. Floral notes appear. Thick and so chewy. Amazing mouth feel. A little tangy.. Brown Sugar!.. and now some white chocolate. I NEVER want this to end ! A little cakey, like a orange , vanilla , tropical ice cream cake. fk. yes. Cinnamon and a little clove arise on the back end. .
FINISH - oh... my... god.. Incredible. So so long, and one of the best finishes in recent memory. A little oak spice arises. No bitterness at all. Mouthwatering.
Brilliant. Just fkn brilliant. A journey through the senses too. There's a lot going on , but at the same time has this base taste that's sensational. I can see myself finding new notes with every pour. This bottle is special. 10/10 for me.
Back to the Park tonight. @highlandparkwhisky 18 year. Is a 5 star in my book. I’m finding that as soon as I open a bottle I am tempted to return to the store to pick up another. This is done in fear hoping I don’t run out. Do you have a dram that you feel that way about? 🥃⌚️
What a trip! Enjoyed Bowmore so much that we barley (get it? 😏🙊) wanted to leave. Extremely tasty day and darn, what is up with those views!! They’re amazing. Wee sauna action in the kiln to wake us up also helped with hangovers from day before 👌
Thank you to the organizers of @thewhiskyx for providing @wwwlachapter with VIP tickets to their LA event! I was thrilled to get to taste Longbranch by @wildturkey
Their latest bourbon release blends the tastes of Kentucky and Texas together. Eight Year-Old Wild Turkey Bourbon is refined with Texas mesquite and oak charcoals for deeper flavor and complexity. The aroma is a balanced blend of vanilla and spices. Flavors of caramel, pear, and hints of citrus round out the palate, while the subtle, smoky finish is buttery smooth—with notes of gentle pepper and toasted oak.
Look for it next month when it’s officially released! CHEERS!
