I swear I get some kind of injury every year even if I strength train. My dad is a marathoner and said at least 50% of people get injured while training for a marathon. He told me my recent training inspired him to run more and train again. I am happy he is running again and he said we may run a 10k together and we have never raced together! I hope so! He told me just rest my knee and not sign up for any marathons til I am fine. The first time i rolled my #itband (the long strip of tissue connecting my hip to my lower leg), I wept considerably 😭. A tight IT band can cause #hippain and weakness, as well as #kneepain. 
Using a #massageball like a #rawball is another way to effectively isolate and treat #tension in your IT Band.

I had a student tell me after class the other day that the simple cue I had given of engaging her glutes while standing had been a massive gamechanger for her pain. She had been practing it regularly and her previously debilitating sciatica was no longer as daunting.

Just a personal fitness post for today!

Shoulders and Abdominals Workout Split

A little background info: 5-6 months back, I went a little too heavy on bench and ended up flaring my elbows out. 😬The weight shifted to my shoulders and i hurt something in my left shoulder🚑(i have no idea what, maybe in 5 years when i become a PT, i can self diagnose 😂)

The shoulder injury ended up causing me to drop a lot of weight on any chest and shoulder exercises.
_______________
Since then i have been doing selective exercises; Do exercises that wont trigger pain and slowing down the movement, emphasis on the eccentric portion🏋🏽‍♀️ So instead of doing barbell bench, i decided to stick with dumbbell, that way i can strengthen each shoulder/ chest independently . (Also safer if you need to drop)

Currently, i am CLOSE to reaching the same numbers in my lifts from 6 months ago; slow and steady progress

Growing up I had friends much more unfortunate than myself. One in particular was much older in age. I’d get my new shoes a size and a half bigger so he could wear them as well. So that I could fit them, I’d wear multiple layers of socks. This happened thru out high school. Had no clue what I was doing to my previous set of feet. 
Shoes are a huge part of my #culture where my closes brothers have literally hundreds (to a thousand) pairs. As stylish as they are, it comes with a price. I’ll be shining much more light on the topic, things to do for Functionl toes & ankles.

Growing up I had friends much more unfortunate than myself. One in particular was much older in age. I’d get my new shoes a size and a half bigger so he could wear them as well. So that I could fit them, I’d wear multiple layers of socks. This happened thru out high school. Had no clue what I was doing to my previous set of feet. 気をつけの姿勢から、
①腕を両サイドに伸ばし胸を張るります
②胸の前で腕を交差します
①②交互に行います
腕の位置は肩下・肩・肩上と徐々に挙げていきます。
頑張りすぎて肩が挙がらないように注意しましょう。

肩を捻る動きは器用さと関係しています。
肩ねじりの柔軟性を改善し、日常生活やコミュニケーションで器用さを発揮しましょう!

This is because we're trying to produce force from a paused position with no use of momentum (non-countermovement). In the clip you'll see me combining the first drill mentioned with a depth drop box jump series. Build strength while teaching mechanics so you can transition into actual power development.

When I’m doing a 30/30 from mass 2, those things go out the window towards the end. Setting my axial skeleton up in a good position makes me feel LIGHTER. If I feel lighter, I feel stronger. If I feel lighter and stronger and can contract the muscles I want to contract with respect to the length tension relationships I’d like to uphold, I feel amazing. 😬

🤸🏼‍♀️Position: Single Leg Standing
🎿Equipment: Theraband/Cable/Gravity.
🤷🏻‍♂️Purpose: By resisting the open chain limb and activating the anterior musculature (right leg in this case), the closed chain limb is forced to recruit the posterior chain muscles including the glutes and hamstrings.
⚒ This exercise can be made easier or harder depending on what the client can appropriately perform while being challenged by adding or taking away stability.

Important consideration via @mikereinold that you must develop sufficient capacity in the injured tissue before return to sport. For most sports, being able to complete 1 or 2 efforts won’t be enough. 
The extra point here is we are talking about fatigue at the knee-NOT breathing heavy! The research I’ve read suggests cardio-vascular fatigue has no effect on risk of ACL injury. But I firmly believe local muscle fatigue does and that’s what is being shown here.

There are millions of ways to write a program if your struggling or new to walking into a gym. Here’s a quick breakdown of a split program, not a bro split.

Writing a program can be a delicate process. This is not tailored to everyone. Each to their own, they have different physical abilities and emotionally/mentally in different spots.

Anyways, this is a simple guide covering what body parts to cover. It is important you cover multiple muscles/joints over a period of a week. Not isolating a muscle per week. You must remember to dedicate X per days a week that you can consistently and realistically maintain. Once you know this then you can consistently train X per days a week and remember consistency drives long term results.

5 days/week is Upper/Lower/accessory on repeat. Accessory can be categorised as isolating certain muscle groups, such as abdominals, intrinsic muscles, or it can be a day of mobility, foam rolling with some cardio, or a day of recreational activities.

4 days is basically the same as 5 minus the accessory. Focusing on heavy compound lifts.

Lastly, 3 days/week is lower/upper/full body.
This is my least favourite as it is harder to cover full body over 3 days without suffering a lot of fatigue.

For many people, using the SkiErg for the first time can be a weird experience. Some common faults we’ve seen so far: 1) Using too much trunk and not enough arms, 2) Coming too far down into a squat pattern, and 3) Using all arms with no trunk movement. 
The movement pattern for this machine is meant to simulate a hip hinge pattern similar to a deadlift. The operator must pull with either straight or bent arms as they stick their hips back and make sure they finish the pull with their arms, similar to a cross country skier as demoed by our Coach @teescala ! Happy skiing!

Research has shown that a stronger neck decreases risk of concussion, which is why we do a lot of neck training with our athletes. 
Here’s a good one you can do with a resistance band. As with any neck exercise, keep your tongue on the roof of your mouth, tuck your chin, and start LIGHT - you don’t need much resistance. 
Start with 3-4 holds of 5-10 seconds.
