A backpacker's story of the infamous Kedarkantha Trek!
"We started early at around 9am from Sankri, we were not carrying food or utensils nor did we hire a guide/porter since we wanted to risk it all and though about arranging food from some other locals up there(as pahadi people are open hearted) it was a different type of an experience. We reached Juda ka Talab around 12 and decided to go further till the base camp.We reached base camp at around 2 and decided to pitch our tents. It was snow all over so had to remove snow first, finally we found an odd place to pitch our tents and we went in search of food and water. Although there were plenty of people there but everyone was with some trekking company or local porter/guide. We reached out to some people and asked them for food.(We paid rs250 and a quarter rum for 4 people's dinner and soup) We had our dinner around 7 and decided to sleep since we had to wake at 3.It was freezing, the temperature was around - 7,we also collected some firewoods and made our feets warm. We slept at around 2 due to the intense cold and woke at 5 and rushed for the summit.
Tip:Water is easily available here, but if you plan to do KK by your own, camp even ahead of base camp as there is a little dhaba ahead (around 1km) and there so you won't have problem for food, water and fire, the dhaba owner will take good care of you.
2.Carrying rum and exchanging with the locals is always a great option in hills! "
