Please welcome litter mates Carmen and Scarlet. They are joining us for our 2 week Board & Train. We will be focusing on their obedience, jumping mouthing, pulling on leash, leash reactivity on walks and unnecessary barking. Please stay tuned for their updates. 🐶❤️🐾#leadthewayk9trainingohio
When Shea’s human mom came to Happy Tails for their consultation, Shea was barking and clawing at the floor pulling toward another dog. Her mom was shocked by her behavior (this was somewhat of a surprise)! She sighed Shea up for a Resident Training Program at Happy Tails hoping she could get Shea to chill out around other dogs. Fast forward to today ... Trainer Kate was working Shea around dogs (using @princess_ginger_pickles as distractions) ... then comes Harley and his humans. They were here for a consultation with Ashley and a tour of Happy Tails. Harley is acting like a typical dog that hasn’t been taught how to act around other dogs. But check out Shea’s amazing manners!!! Way to go Shea!! 🙌🏻 ... by the way, you’ll see Harley in June when he checks in for his Resident Training Program! #germanshepherd#frenchbulldog#frenchie#happytailsrule#impulsecontrol#dogmanners
Our training class is doing an awesome job in their trainjng programs. Check out this short video highlighting the “place” command. They all do a great job showing impulse control and holding command when someone knocks, and rings the doors bell then enters the room. We are very proud of these four pups. Great work crew! 🐶❤️🐾💙👏🏻#leadthewayk9trainingohio
Did you know that a down-stay is not used for the same purpose as a sit-stay?
While a sit-stay is a shorter-term, distance-centric posture, a down-stay is meant to be a position you can put your dog in for protracted periods of time ... for example, while you are eating at the kitchen table, or while you are sitting in a duck blind.
It also is a great position to put dogs in when they need to relax and observe, rather than interact with, their environment. A *really* long down-stay is an essential element in what trainers call a "relaxation protocol." However, the trick to making a down-stay work is to train it to a level of utility -- beyond the level of a mere card-trick.

HEY COACH! I am so sick of my sister talking shit and being shady towards everybody.
ME: Send this to your sister—Don’t you get tired of talking shit and clapping back all the time?? I know we get tired of listening to you say a whole lotta nothing every time somebody says the slightest thing to you that makes you feel intimidated or uncomfortable. Then you have to blast them out of the water. Nobody believes all that bluster anyway especially when you’re gumming all up in the persons’ face and then behind their back you start talking shit. If you was all that big and bad you have the balls to say whatever you need to say to their face. Sucking up all the oxygen in the room just because you don’t know how to be quiet, listen, reflect and God forbid incorporate some feedback into your life so that you can somehow become a better sister, mother, daughter, coworker, business partner, friend. Those of us with higher emotional intelligence realize there’s a time for talking smack and there’s a time for shuttin’ the hell up. WE do just that every day and are waiting on you to figure it out. In the meantime, we’ll just continue to nod our heads while we’re standing in front of you with you doing your regular shit talking pretending that we believe you but secretly praying for you to get JESUS. Think on it. #ShutUp#Censor#ImpulseControl#stop#shady#Elevate#LifeCoach#DoBetter .
Biscuit the #havanese pup did awesome in his go home session. His owners were prepared with good questions and they did an excellent job working with him. They are now set up for success back at home. We look forward to having this sweet guy back for Structured Boarding.🐶💙🐾#thankyouforchoosingleadtheway#woofwallohio
Impulse control level: Expert.
What level are your dogs at with their impulse control?
Did you know that using a raised platform, like the KLIMB, makes impulse control exercises much easier for your dog?
Paris is soaked and slightly embarrassed, but fine after she discovered the ice couldn't hold her weight. Stay away from deep and fast moving water on days like today. It is really easy for a dog to go under the ice in these conditions. Paris is lucky she found a spot that was only 2 feet deep.
