“Color is a power which directly influences the soul”
— Wassily Kandinsky
Highly addicted to the power of blue, and I’m always looking deeper as to why.
___ I think a big part of it is I associate blue with feelings. Fluid and deep. Powerful and mysterious. When I watch a large body of water, whether it’s a stormy, wild ocean or a silent lake, I always find myself associating it with my own inner landscape.
And I feel the most connected to the world around me when I dwell in this parallel.
Ditto the same connectedness when I’m elbow deep in blue paint ✨

I have written at least three versions of this post. ⠀
In the first version, I apologized for posting this painting because it looks different from my past paintings. ⠀
In the last two I tried to explain how they were... actually... kinda similar after all. Each one read like I was apologizing for making this painting in the first place.⠀
So I threw them out. And here’s why:⠀
I’ve seen so many similar apologetic posts from artists having the “new work conundrum.” And I get it, it’s scary putting new stuff out there - will people like it? Will people stop following my work? Will I get negative feedback? Will it look awful if it doesn’t match my Instagram feed? (The horror! 😂)⠀
But in the end, I figure if you have the balls to make the art in the first place, then you should feel free to post it with no apologies. Right? So this marks a new phase of painting for me, one where I throw caution to the wind and do whatever the hell I want 😂 Throw me a double tap if you’re here for that! 💙 And if not, I love you anyway 😘😉 #rantover ⠀
/// “Step Out From Under That Cloud” acrylic on watercolor paper, 9x12” Available in the shop! 🙂
I think many (most?) artists are introverts by nature. Thinkers. Observers who feel more comfortable communicating passively through their work than actively in conversation (🙋🏻♀️). But I’m realizing that too often with that personality comes false perceptions about ourselves, our work, and other artists. Connecting with some wonderful creatives recently I’ve been seeing how beneficial it is to get out of my comfortable independency and build a beautiful community of people to share ideas, struggles, and basically a lot of the same life stuff I do! @paulabreetzke @kc.christmas @kistin_creative_studio @amberdfrench
currently obsessed with denim jackets with cute designs on the back, this @hellokittyeu gang one is a staple for me at the mo - any brands that do similar I should check out? 💕
Throwback to a pretty great bank holiday Monday, consisting of a pizza date with @sukiandthecity & pals followed by a lil shoot in Camden 💙 (ps. as much as I love this pic I really wish that rogue bitta hair would just do one 💇🏻♀️)

We spent last week in New Hampshire, in the cold and snow and fresh air, not doing much besides playing card games, reading, going for drives and walks, and it was freaking glorious. I took the week off from painting and I feel like that really helped me to get some perspective about what’s next in the studio. (meaning, it convinced me to stop being a weenie and just go for it 💃) Big changes and new work coming soon, you guys! Stay tuned!⠀
ps, these @talenti containers make perfect water jars. And now I have a built in excuse to buy an obscene amount of gelato 😂 🍦#notsponsored#butiwouldnthateit
Sometimes I get so lost in a Painting while creating that for months after the fact I’m still discovering things. Little textures and color changes that make keeps me discovering and keeps things interesting. ⠀
A Good Case of the Blues
I think I have this thing for blue...I’ve had a few ideas floating about my head for a good while now...blue-themed styled shoots...blue jewels and blue clothes. I’m obsessed!! And I predict blue is going to be a key jewellery colour for 2018 (have you seen Gwyneth Paltrow’s amazing engagement ring??!). So, I’m playing about with these beautiful stones from India, designing some statement earrings for myself (and maybe being inspired for a new line...). I’m holding gorgeous chalcedony which looks eye popping in the sun and was a 1950’s fave of Wallis Simpson, and in the background there’s some fab emerald matrix for long drop earrings. What do you think?
Matching the backdrop to the skies over the British Isles this week. The texture and patterns in this Azure design are original marks in setting plaster by our builder. I added the vibrant blue tone and created something in my favourite colour palette. Our whole house has hints of navy! Perfect with no pixels in sight for close up shots where you want some beautiful detail 💙 #cblbackdrops
Happy Friday! Had to pick a colorful #onetofollow this time around, and this tabletop from @jonnybuilds stopped me dead in my scroll. If you haven't yet heard of shou sugi ban — an 18th century Japanese weatherproofing technique that involves FIRE 🔥 and is super cool to watch — you likely will soon. It looks to be a growing trend for contemporary designers, and I think I’m going to have to give it a try myself! You can learn how by checking out Jonny's profile and videos all about how to recreate the look (and other stain colors). #followfriday
Happy Friday friends! I had a great day! Tried my first ever barre class with a good friend and the sweetest instructor! Then found so many treasures at homesense for a little decor refresh I’m working on. All good things! Hope you guys had a great day and are currently unwinding from the week 😘
