Trying to brighten up this dreary hump day ☔️ with this colorful beauty, aka my FAVORITE fruit 😍 Every time I eat it it takes me right back to tropical weather 🏝

I’ve already talked about how papaya is loaded the nutrients and can help with digestion (including IBS) in a previous post, but did you know that in some traditional medicines the papaya SEEDS are actually used as a natural remedy? The seeds are used for their anti-inflammatory, anti-parasitic, and analgesic qualities, and are often used to treat stomach aches and ringworm infections.

1/4 cup adaptogen vegan protein
2 tbsp coconut flour
2 tsp matcha 
1 tbsp @sweetmamamels vanilla coconut butter
1 tbsp @spreadthelove almond butter
1/4 cup (plus 1-2 tbsp as needed) pear sauce or applesauce
2 tbsp maple syrup
White chocolate to drizzle
Bake at 350F for 7-9 minutes if desired!

Lentil, Carrot & Quinoa Stew

One night last week I made this lentil+oat mash as a component for veggie bowls, however, I made waaaay too much. So without much direction, I sautéed leeks and carrots with ghee (because it’s just what I had in the fridge). Then I added bone broth, the lentil+oat mash and let it simmer for about 15 mins, until the carrots were ale-dente. I had leftover quinoa too, so I threw that in after the stew finished simmering. Tbh I wasn’t even planning on making a stew, it’s just where it went and I’m not mad about it 😋

Here’s some of my favorite tips for playing with this shape:

✔️FOUNDATION and GRIP! I use prayer hands or clasped palms (with arms shoulder width distance) but I know lots of people find flat palms to be easier to start.
✔️When playing around with kicking up - slow and steady wins the race! Be gentle and activate the core. Try to have your landing be nice and soft. ✔️Press, press, press - into the forearms and palms. Make sure you can keep as much space in between the shoulders and the ears as possible. Shifting the weight into the forearms and palms helps you to also stack the shoulders and hips- finding greater stability in the shape.

When was the last time you offered yourself compassion? When my heart is feeling restricted and I get that tightness in the back of my throat from overwhelm, I place a hand on my heart and invite in self-compassion. I speak gentle words to myself just as I would to a friend who was struggling. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“It is okay to feel this.” “You aren’t alone.” “This won’t be forever.” “You are deserving of love.”

I used to roll my eyes at these types of practices, but when I really gave them a chance they have made me realize the power of my thoughts and how my body, mind, and spirit are not separate from one another. When I care for one of these pieces of myself I am caring for them all. Bringing love into my thoughts invites love into my body, and my entire being softens. I hope this might be a reminder to give just as much compassion to yourself as you do to those around you. ❤️

2 big handful of spinach, 2 medium frozen bananas, 1/2 avocado, 1tsp YourSuperFoods green powder (optional but highly recommended) and some almond milk to blend. Toppings are blueberries and hemp seeds. Served in @coconutbowls✌️Feel free to add protein powder before blending. My favorite is raw organic brown rice protein powder.

Happy hump day! I considered taking a boat 🚣 for my commute this morning 😄because we are on day 3 of steady rain ☔️ here in NC. I don’t mind the break from all the pollen and I typically enjoy cozy rainy days. I have another full day of research ahead. 🔬 I’ll get a welcomed lunch break to celebrate one of my friend’s birthday! 🎉 we are going to a Korean restaurant and I’m super excited! 🙌🏻 So, I’m sharing a salad 🥗 I recently enjoyed with roasted veggies (🥦, cauliflower, 🍠 fries, try-color 🥕, and Brussels sprouts), @saffronroadfood sea salt chickpeas, and @rootshummus sriracha mango hummus all over a bed of organic spinach.😋 Have a blessed day! 😊

Spring is FINALLY in the air! 🌷🌻 The little guy and I got outside for our first outdoor run of the year yesterday, and I can see some green popping up here and there!  To celebrate all things fresh, bright and green, I whipped up a batch of this south-of-the-border spinach dip to accompany taco night yesterday!  I love that it reheats well, and can be kept in the fridge for a few days and still taste just as good! 😋😋

Also, is it normal for a one year old to be afraid of grass?? 👶🌱 These last two days I’ve been taking Mr. William outside at night to hang with us and enjoy the weather – but he refuses to leave the patio!  We try to set him out in the yard and he’ll turn around and run back to the concrete!  I’m not sure if that’s a normal thing, or if I just have a strange bug - it’s been supplying us with some good laughs at least! 😂🤷‍♀️

Anyone that's been following me for a while has a good understanding that I have a major problem, with drinking water since I've posted about it quite a bit. 💧You'd think that in my position I'd be one that would lead by example with practicing ALL healthy habits however we all have our own struggles and this is mine - getting enough hydration. 
My theory: pump up the liquids but boost the nutrition too. If I have trouble drinking plain old water, let's boost the vitamins and minerals in every gulp. 🌿🥒This has resulted in green juices. Last night I made half a gallon of this baby with veggies playing a large role in it's makeup. 
Some things to remember when drankinnnn that juice:
🥒Let veggies be the star of the show. Fruit contains a great deal of sugar. 🥒Buy yourself a @vitamix as it will help to ensure you're getting as much nourishment as you possibly can as the full ingredient will be pulverized when the machine runs. Be sure to buy a strainer too so that you can properly strain the mixture into juice form.
🥒Opt for water-rich veggies for better hydration such as cucumbers and celery.
🥒Experiment with ginger, various citruses, and balancing of acidity & flavor. Try juicing fennel for a unique taste in your next juice.
🥒Buy organic. This helps to ensure that your ingredients were not sprayed with harmful chemicals.
🥒Understand how juice is metabolized. You are not chewing a juice, you're drinking it which means it's pretty much a straight-shot to your esophagus. DRINK IN MODERATION if you truly are watching your caloric intake.
🥒Make it ahead. Try buying organic products at the start of your week and take THIRTY minutes to make a half gallon for the week. MAKE THE TIME for your health!
🥒Shit's loaded with soluble fiber. This means transit time is increased, and fabulous phytonutrients can be absorbed. Stay close to a bathroom because you're insides are about to get washedddddd with nutrition.

I can honestly say I am quite proud of how fast I can whip up breakfast 💯 I think it’s safe to say I made this whole damn thing in under 7 minutes..... I don’t know whether I can atteitubhte that to the fact that I’m *quick in the kitchen* or I was just hungry? reguardless, it was delicious 😜 went to a @flywheelsports class this morning with a friend, then came back hungry & ready for some gooooood food so I whipped this up & it hit the spot! rainy day in dc but I have a lot to get done 🤷‍♀️ with exams next week, there really isn’t any time I can say I have “nothing to do” school wise.... whaddddya gonna do 🙃 #whatsonmyplate :: 2 slices of @daveskillerbread powerseed bread, 1/2 @wholefoodsdmv avocado, 2 @vitalfarms eggs, @traderjoes EBTB seasoning, all cooked in @fourthandheart ghee with a side of organic @driscollsberry strawberries & grapes 😋 happy wednesday friends, don’t be too hard on yourselves today ☀️

I tried almost every diet known to man, worked out consistently for a time period than stopped and have struggled to see food as a good thing. I struggled to accept my body's shape and look and did whatever I could to get slim and look perfect.

It wasn't until June 2013 when I started to look at health from a holistic point of view and started to care about myself emotionally, mentally, spiritually and physically. I started to make better food choices out of love for myself instead of just to lose weight. I even started exercising consistently by simply walking outside a few days a week.

And then in October of 2014, my friend and I did the Whole30 and it forever changed my life.

Not only was I able to enjoy real, whole foods without thinking about calories, I was able to beat my sugar cravings, make some not so healthy recipes - healthy, and enjoy healthy eating again.

And even overcome the constant digestive issues I struggled with, while losing fat and inches!

ITS MOVING DAY PPL 🚛💃🏻 my boyfriend and i got our first place together and we are so psyched 🌞💫 i’m not sure how much i’ll be posting for the next 2 or 3 days till we are settled so for now, i will leave you with my FAV treat which ended up being the result of me throwing a bunch of stuff in my food processor hoping it’d turn out 🤞🏼 and im happy to let y’all know that these little squares are SO DAMN GOOD, made with clean ingredients, easy peazy, and oh yeah, no added sugars 👅

put 1 cup of almonds into food processor and process until they are in little bits (i like them to still be a kind of chunky but up to you!)
once that’s done, add 1 cup dates, 2 tbsp almond milk, 1/3 cup almond butter, 2 tbsp cacao powder, 5 tbsp hemp hearts + a generous few dashes of cinnamon. process until everything is combined and the dough is sticky enough to take out and flatten in a square dish. pop in the freezer for a few hours, cut into squares + voila! keep in the freezer for long term eats 😻💯

As requested from a previous post on if Yoga is damaging your hips I am sharing some hip strengthening/ progressive mobility exercises I practice and teach... this is by no means all of them. The possibilities are endless and this is one of the main reasons why Yoga asana practice falls short in preparing the body to move in different planes in the real world and can even cause harm.

This is an emotionally charged subject regarding a well intentioned practice. I will be the first to tell you that I believed Yoga asana was the end all be all but now I know that it needs to come with warning labels and consideration for how it’s actually effecting the human body. As a Yoga community we can address these topics intelligently while maintaining the highest values that Yoga represents.

✨Healthy pan fried chicken 🍗 and asparagus with a side of vegan mozzarella topped with basil and blood orange.🍊Asparagus is packed with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and  has many nutritional benefits, as it helps your digestion, heart, bones and even cells! It’s also is packed with minerals like iron, vitamins such as K, B1, B2, B3 and is super low in calories! ⭐️RECIPE UPDATE: I sliced the chicken first and seasoned with salt, paprika, garlic and a dash of turmeric. I cooked the chicken in olive oil for about 5 minutes on each side. 🌿 For the asparagus I used the same pan as the chicken and sautéed chives in olive oil and added the asparagus with a dash of salt. Cooked for about 8 min flipping over halfway. 🧀 the vegan mozz I sliced and added olive oil, salt, pepper. Enjoy! ✨💫
