These little guys are my favorites!! Hummingbirds were my Daddy’s favorites too. I love just sitting out back and watching their antics! It’s pretty funny when they start fighting over the feeder! #hummingbird#nature#bird
It has been awhile since I made a post, but the picture of this bird-feeder made perfect sense. Papo LOVED hummingbirds. Anytime, one or two little hummingbirds would fly up he would get super excited and have the kids stop and look. I wish I had a picture of the birdfeeder he had right outside the window of their home in Planterra. I told myself however, this year I would have 2 hanging flower pots, and 1 or 2 hummingbird feeders. Papo loved nature, loved animals, and truly appreciated the “still” things in life. He would always tell the family “Stop and smell, the roses.” Every year he would grow the most beautiful flowers. He would hang two flower pots on the front porch, and fill the red fluid into the hummingbird feeders.. Ill never forget into his old age he would still cut the grass up the super steep hill in Planterra. I have many memories of him sitting on his chair in the driveway with his eyes closed soaking up, as he liked to say “Vitamin D.” Its hard to believe this July will be 2 years when Heaven gained an angel, but it feels like not a day has gone by. Its funny how you can still hear someones voice, or the sound of the back door of Mamo and Papo’s house slamming shut, or the sound of his feet walking through the hall, and the sound of the garage door opening and Mamo’s Honda Accord pulling in the garage… this year I am praying and hoping for many hummingbirds this season 😉 #aprilshowersbringmayflowers#hummingbird#birds#stopandsmelltheroses#sugarjuice#angelsinheaven
'Return of the Hummingbirds'
I look forward each year to photographing the hummingbirds that return to our area.
Took this image yesterday in my folk's backyard. Although we have three hummingbirds that regularly visit our feeder, this female was the only one that fed from my 'baited' flower during the hour I set up. (I foolishly forgot to recompose my shot after using a horizontal flower prior, so almost cut the little girl's tail off.) Merrickville, Ontario - May 24, 2018
Me, as a bird. 🌱🌱 Hummingbirds are super quick, in case you didn’t know. Took me about 50 tries to get a good shot! Oh, and they eat about 50% of their body weight in nectar.
Spring is a great time to look up into the trees and find active bird nests! We spent some time talking about nests, looking at an old abandoned hummingbird nest, pretending to be birds, and making nests of all kinds. (You never know what you'll spot when looking up!) 🌳🐣🐤 #forestschool#spring#nest#hummingbird#nature#letthemexplore
