Hot and sour soup is a traditional Chinese soup and one of our favorites, containing ingredients like day lily buds, bamboo shoots, tofu, and more! If you've never tried it before, come give it a try today 🍜😋
So, I haven't been posting bc I'm feeling a bit under the weather, and therefore, not cooking. My mom's BFF took her out to lunch today, and they picked me up my favorite for sore throat/sinus/flu: Hot & Sour soup!
Yeah yeah, chicken soup, blah blah blah, but for me, the heat and subtle sourness of THIS soup is EXACTLY what my throat needs - along with an icy glass of tart cherry & grapefruit juice 😉 I'm so thankful that I'm once again able to get this locally when I need it, thanks to Holy Chow!
I went to @gogopiglet’s cooking class yesterday with my mom 😊 the theme was Chinese food! We made so much yummy food and it was super fun!
1.) shrimp dumplings🥟
2.) mantou (steamed buns)
3.) crispy roasted pork belly
4.) Suanlatang (hot and sour soup)
5.) steamed clams in sake, garlic, sesame oil, ginger, etc.
6.) bok choy with woodear mushrooms (きくらげ)
For dessert we had:
1.) aiyu jelly with fruits
2.) fried mantou with coconut and condensed milk
3.) guilinggao (turtle jelly)
Some interesting things I learned: turtle jelly actually has turtle in it!! When you prepare shrimp you should first mix it with salt, cornstarch, and water until the water becomes gray. Then you rinse it with water and then dry it. This makes it extra プリプリ (puripuri - idk how to say this in English maybe big and juicy). I also learned how to turn the mantou into a twisty flower shape! Also that the tofu pieces in suanlatang can be made from soy milk (which cuddles in acid).
Wife and i felt like eating some Chinese food last night, so we made our own. Meatless chicken and all fresh veggies stirfry and hot and sour soup. I'm not on a 100% plantbased diet yet so the soup does contain the Eggbeaters. I've given up the cheese now just working on completely giving up eggs. One day at a time.
