☎️ Listen in... Ken is taking a call from a hop farmer that just realized he was delivered a bunch of “green” (not dry) tamarack poles... Why ROTBLOC can help protect your poles green or dry... maximize the life by 7-15 years preventing pole replacement and labor costs.
Q: Can #ROTBLOC be retrofitted?
Q: Who invented ROTBLOC?
A: 👆Ken Carhart ☎️ Stay tuned for more, I’ll add more later as it was a long conversation teaching about the different rot resistance wood species, what causes rot and why it’s always at the ground-line, are “warranties” on chemically treated wood worth anything... Why some poles twist and turn, why you should de-bark (ideally), etc.
Q: Who’s researched, test and approved ROTBLOC?
A: Oregon State Wood Science Engineers specialized in barrier systems. *READ COMMENTS BELOW for basic summary of the first part of the conversation.
Some excellent burgers have been had this year for Burger Love. Overall winner was #hopyard (sadly no picture available because I ate it all before I could take a pic). Still some time left to go try it if you haven't yet. Don't forget to vote for your faves! #burgerlove#fryyay#burgerlove2018
Small Business ✨ Family Business: #HopFarm ♻️ used irrigation tubing sometimes ends up at home, where business and family usually blend and we spend our weekends cutting out the emitters with our kids before we recycle it to make #rotbloc at our manufacturing facility in #bendoregon . For one reason or another, we seem to end up on the road less traveled and so far that means shouldering the business alone. So far, we’ve chosen not to have investors, we’ve been picky about who we distribute with: @kerr_supply and @bleyhl. We are selling our house, worked extra jobs, not had things like T-shirt’s and marketing merch, don’t pay for packaging, etc so that we can keep the costs down 👉 ROTBLOC as low as .74 cents per 5 in pole, extended 4-15 service life 👉 and our employees paid and clients who are #farmers , vintners and #ranchers able to afford a sustainable tool to help them be successful in the long run. When you’re successful, we are successful. We hope our 5 kids are absorbing this and will someday appreciate why they have to stay home and be apart of the business that puts food on their table while helping you keep food on yours too.🍺 Cheers to small business and family business big and small! 📸 Picture 2: Everyone asks us this, “Why do you have to cut the emitters out?” You can’t recycle very small particles of anything, including plastic and metal (ex: emitters). Drip tubing cannot be recycled at public recycling stations. So we pick up the drip tubing first from our clients farms and #recycle and #upcycle it into our products-which we are working on 2 new ones that aren’t round at our manufacturing facility 😉. #freepickup#irrigation#vineyards#wine#sommelier#wawine#pnw#craftbeer#craftcider#hopyard#hops#brewery#farmlife#ranchlife#orchard#craftcider#organic#sustainable#regenerativeagriculture#zerowaste
You can replace your trellis poles thousands of times a year if you want to. But you don’t have to 🌎 Celebrating #EarthDay , depicting here just one pile of the many hundreds of thousands that happen every year globally due to chemically treated conventionally wood posts rotting at the ground line. Treated posts rot for multiple reasons, irregardless, you can protect them doubling their service life using #rotbloc 🌍 For conventional poles that could be 7-15 years of saving you time and money on labor and the costs of pole replacements. ROTBLOC is a #zerowaste product from start to finish 🌏 100% #recycled , 100% #NonToxic and 100% #recyclable . We are the first product #organic#farmers can legally use on their #fencepost and #ranch#posts certified by the WSDA and in Canada 🇨🇦 tested and approved by wood science engineers and 100% Made In #Oregon . We have now reached a point where the largest orchards and commercial growers in the United States are calling us now, which is a positive impact to improving #soil health and wood #conservation . We thank the largest commercial ag producers we partner with, looking to #revolutionize their #hopfarm , #orchard and #vineyards , reduce their carbon footprints and #environmental#impact on the planet we all share. Cheers to #regenerativeagriculture 💫 -ROTBLOC LLC, partnering with 👉 @1percentftp and @patagonia 👈
We waited a couple weeks after the crowning and the cool weather to past to spread our recycled potash in the hopyard.
Why did we wait?! After crowning we want to make sure the plants garden up so we do not burn them. Second, with the cool weather we did not want to jump start the second growth with some of the cool nights we saw the last couple of weeks.
Now with hopeful night time temperatures in the forecast we have these little guys some food to help with their spring time growth in preparation of tying next month.
Chicken/goat tractor is all set up for field rotation! Soon, our goats and chickens will be grazing in different fields on the farm as part of managing our 65 acres of hay, hops, and forest #natureworksforus#chickentractor#goats#hopyard
Q: “Can I just wrap plastic around it and call it good?” A: No.
We’ve talked to some of the oldest and most reputable hop farmers in the US who have already tried this. The OSU wood science engineers tried this too, and both reported that the plastic bag breaks down at the ground-line where the premature ground-line rot occurs.
WHY? Because the UVA rays and other elements and factors cause the plastic to erode, tear and break apart.
ROTBLOC was designed to withstand UVA rays, moisture and the decay pressure from the microorganisms in your soil that thrive at the ground-line, rotting your conventionally treated and untreated posts.
ROTBLOC has been in a field study on Hilo, Hawaii 🌈 created by the wood science engineers from Oregon State University for the past few years now proving that it not has not broken down under the most extreme UVA pressure points, etc. The study also proved that ROTBLOC prevented the chemicals in pressure treated conventional posts, from leaching into the surrounding soil. One conventionally treated wood post can leach those chemicals up to 8 inches your surrounding soil. This is great news for you, looking to preserve the integrity of your #soil and to maximize the service life of your trellis system, preventing unnecessary pole replacements.
