Recently,I’ve been reading about Grace, and no, not just the blessing before a meal.
Today we went to a family friend’s welcome to summer bbq. That they’ve done for as long as I can remember, at least 17 years! This year it was as packed as it’s ever been, people spilling out over the decks (yes they actually have a multi level deck) They have it because the husband of the couple says his hope is that one day he will chop onions in God’s kitchen. It makes him happy. He likes cooking for people. He made a joke today after the chicken ended up with a darkened skin it was the “burnt offering.” And that’s him, with the quiet comments that just say the best things so quietly, and if you don’t listen you miss them. And one of the thoughts I had was that the cook would indeed serve you the fattened calf simply because you stopped by and that’s enough for a celebration. It’s grace.
We recently road tripped to the Midwest and are enjoying time here with family for a week. Last night I paused in the heat and humidity of the 90-degree day and took a few deep breaths. “It smells like home,” I said to my husband.
I haven’t lived in the Midwest for over a decade and most of my married life has happened in Colorado, California, and Thailand. But it still feels like “home.” Well, in one sense it does.
I’ve thought a lot about what “home” is and means. I once thought I agreed with the saying, “Home is wherever I’m with you,” meaning that as long as I was with my family, I was “home.” I then lived overseas and learned that it’s actually much more complex than that for me. Yes, home IS where I’m with my family. But it’s not just about the people I’m with, it’s also about where I identify as “belonging” in a sense. Its the place my spirit can rest in a unique way differently than from all other places. It’s where I “get” the people around me in a particular way.
I’m still not sure what I think about in regards to the idea of what “home” means. But for today, I’ll enjoy the feeling that being here brings.
What are some of the things home means to YOU? #homeis#whatishome#home

GENTLE HATHA / / / 🐌 Friday 9:00 am - 10:15 am @tenthgateyogaportsmouth / / / This beautiful little creature showed up on my step the other day, and I was fascinated by its beauty and its movements. Snails are SO COOL! When I have an animal sighting or encounter, I tend to look up their symbolic meaning. One very cool aspect of a snail is its shell. “The snail carries its home upon its back. It can wander anywhere, and still be home. Not only that – the snail actually creates its own shell (unlike hermit crabs, who find shells already made to move into). This is hugely symbolic. It implies anywhere we go – that’s home. Home is in the heart. We can auger a sense of contentment just by being satisfied with who we are from the inside out. The snail reminds us of this.” So, yes, we will be going at a snail’s pace in class, and we will make ourselves feel right at home. 💜🐌💜

People say you don't know what you've got until it's gone. Truth is, you knew what you had, you just never thought you'd lose it. Charlottesville is absolutely my favorite place in the whole wide world. There's honestly no place I would rather be. I need to constantly remind myself to appreciate it more and experience this bucolic town more deliberately. So when it's time to venture out, I can absolutely say no regrets
Thunderstorms have always made me feel alive! The power from them commands your attention and is worth contemplating. Whether a little frightened or refreshed from the rainfall, they remind us all of something bigger. I’ll be looking upward towards heaven, hope to see you there. 💕💕double tap if you love the stormy rain!
That pause when we asked ‘what is home?’ during the #HomeIs interviews, which came just before the, ‘not where is home?’ retort was always beautiful. The answers that came after were golden. This was a favourite.
Some days are just like...”yeah, I’ve got this!” Lol. Only with the incredible help of my hubby behind the scenes! Who wants to see more of him in some videos?! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼How was your start to the week?
