Take it from these guys, tea is for those about to rock. I feel like whether or not you happen to be Mick Jagger, anyone could benefit from a freshly steeped, steaming cup of herbal goodness. ⚡️
I recall a time in my life when I loved what I was doing, and it made me feel like a total rock star to push myself extremely hard. Like unreasonably hard. Until eventually it made me feel terrible. The sense of overwhelm and burnout I felt at that point was absolutely crushing. My heart felt like roadkill and I couldn’t stop crying. 🖤
And yet, here I still am. Herbs, a new relationship with the word “No,” and a long hard look at how to care for myself like I would care for any other loved one helped pull me back up and improve me as a human. Burnout and stress look different for everyone - some people feel it most in their mood, some in their immune systems or digestion, some people have trouble focusing…or, you know…all of those in some dumb and inconvenient combination 😂
On Tuesday 5/29 I’m teaching a class on Tried & True Herbs For Your Rock ‘n’ Roll Lifestyle, and I sincerely hope you’ll join me. We’ll talk about herbs and self care for vibrancy and health in the face of potential burnout and overwork. Class is from 7:30-9pm at @rosehousebotanicals in Denver. $25, everyone goes home with a free tea blend. Register through the “Classes At Rosehouse” link in my bio.
Ladies have you tried one of our VSteams yet? What is a VSteam?
VSteam also known as vaginal steaming, is a practice in which a woman allows the warmth of herbal steam to permeate the exterior of her vagina. Respected by healers around the globe, vaginal steaming is an opportunity to reconnect with your body and utilize the wisdom of plant medicine to heal your cycle. VSteams also aid with infertility, the use of specific herbs adds layers of different healing benefits, depending on the fertility-related health condition being treated. Different herbs have different healing actions. A combination of selective herbs work to nourish, tone, heal, bring in fresh oxygenated blood, promote cleansing, and make supple the vaginal and uterine tissues. The moist heat opens the pores of the the tissues it comes into contact with. The water vapor carries the medicinal benefits of the plants, including volatile oils. This is absorbed into the tissues and enters the bloodstream, having a direct healing effect on the reproductive system. Vaginal tissue is one of the most absorbent of the entire female body. If you have a regular cycle (every 30 to 31 days) we would recommend our Herbal Cleansing Steam. Click the link in our bio to learn more.
Another food post? Stick with me here!
First kale of the season from my garden, which I sauteed in avocado oil with garlic scapes 🤤 If you're a gardener or maybe get fresh local produce, you'll know what I'm talking about here... and that's the vibrant #qí of freshly picked produce.
Qí as a term is highly misunderstood and translated from Chinese texts, but most Westerners have heard the term. I would suggest a few thoughts 1.) Chinese dictionaries often list usages of words in context vs. definitions 2.) Qí has a myriad of meanings, depending on how it's used. In Chinese medicine, it means many things. *
🌿Food As Medicine🌿
It seems simple enough to grasp then that the more vibrant and vital your food is, the more vibrant and vital YOU will feel! And THAT is the qí of your food. You are what you eat, right?🍄 #foodasmedicine#sharethelex#naturalhealing#chinesemedicine#lexingtonkentucky#acupuncture#herbalmedicine#digestivehealth#womenshealth#youarewhatyoueat#qi
Lemon Balm #melissaofficinalis Elixir -
Elixirs are generally made with a mix of alcohol and honey. Aromatic plants like mint, lemon balm, rose petals and pine make delicious elixirs. This was made with the fresh growth of Lemon Balm, organic grape alcohol and local honey. The color, scent and taste is already pretty spectacular. Cooling Lemon Balm is a favorite usually combined with Rose to gladden the heart. Or with Motherwort for a bitter digestive if there’s an anxious belly. And any old day cause it’s yummy 🌿
My healing Hemp & Calendula cream 💛
Calendula is anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antiseptic making it incredibly useful for dry, irritated skin, burns, cuts and rashes 🌼
The triterpene esters found in Calendula flowers contribute to the proliferation and migration of fibroblasts which aid in wound healing 💛
Hemp seed oil has high concentrations of vitamins and essential fatty acids which encourage healthy tissue and collagen growth 🌿
It’s similar to our skin’s own natural lipids making it easier to penetrate cells to deeply moisturise your skin 💚
T A K I N G T I M E. It's important to take time for yourself. Whether that's on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, it is something our bodies and minds demand, but something we also deeply neglect and throw by the wayside when life gets in the way.
People oftentimes preach the importance of this, but for me at least, it seems like another task on a never ending list of to-do's. Between work, home, working from home, running errands, petitioning, staying up to date on the latest feats of injustice (hello white privilege, I know I have it easy), making sure everyone is fed and the lights stay on, it's hard to set that time, or any time for that matter, aside. Goodbye shower, maybe next week!
The anxiety inducing pressure we put on ourselves is immense. After all, how can I justify setting time aside for myself when so many others can't and there is so much to be done? Well, I'm still working on that one, and I don't have an answer, but the unrest in my body and mind tells me I must.
So for now, I sit with my cup of tea, my little bit of solace in an otherwise hectic world, and take comfort in the fact that even if I can't take care of myself, the plants can. -
Found my new favorite tea shop @dobrateanc!
Did you know that every variety of tea comes from the same basic plant, Camellia Sinensis? The cornucopia of variations in color and taste come from different processing techniques.
As a medicinal herb, different processing creates different herbal properties. 🌞 In the morning, black tea is best because it has a warming, tonifying property which can help increase circulation and kickstart metabolism.
🍃 Green tea on the other hand is cooling and releasing. While not the best first thing in the morning on a daily basis for most people, green tea can be helpful for clearing heat to treat the headaches, foggy heads, red eyes, thirst and restlessness that come with spring and summertime allergies. .
The important thing though, is that every body is different. What harmonizes one body might disregulate another. For example, those with a constitution of internal heat may find that black tea (or coffee even moreso) causes headaches, restlessness and anxiety, as opposed to all of its touted benefits. Real healing is never one size fits all. It’s about understanding your body’s balance and imbalances, and its subsequent needs. .
Who else is ready to try a high calibre alternative to pills (like NSAIDs) to heal the body?
RW’s Optimize Tonic contains a whopping 1,000 mg of CBD per bottle.
It also contains #herbs that are used to treat:
Tight muscles⚡️Stiff Joints ⚡️Cramps of all kinds⚡️Lack of flexibility ⚡️Muscle spasms⚡️Osteoarthritis ⚡️Epilepsy -
THE EFFECTS: physical, mental and emotional flexibility ✨
We notice we handle our lives better. Stress becomes manageable, no longer reaching the point of trauma and injury. It all comes from living a warm, flexible and active life.

For the love of Hawthorns... Gathering Hawthorn blossom between the thunder storms this afternoon. This is a lovely heart/circulatory system medicine: it improves the circulation in the fine arteries and helps blood get to the extremities. A lovely uplifting herb.
