We only know ourselves in contrast to what we are not. This is just basic human nature; to categorize, judge, contrast, and compare ourselves to the rest of the world. Humans are the only species that believes it has to become something more than it already is. This is because the ego thought system convinces us that we aren't good enough just as we are. So we live in the sticky space of unworthiness and we end up having an experience of lack. I love how @mariannewilliamson says, “An acorn doesn't have to TRY to become a tree, it just becomes a tree.” You are already programmed to become all that you can be... it is only your job to not get in the way! Let go of the shoulds and shouldn’ts. Let go of the fear, of the scarcity and lack, by owning what is already yours. ☺️ 📷 @happiness.collective

“That forgiveness is healing needs to be understood if the teacher of God is to make progress. The idea that a body can be sick is a central concept in the ego's thought system. A body that can order a mind to do as it sees fit could merely take the place of God and prove salvation is impossible.” We know that negative self-talk can lead to perceiving things as more stressful than they actually are. I call that negative self-talk the ego and when ego runs the show, the increased stress can lead to suppression of the immune system and, ultimately, an increased likelihood for illness.
#ACourseInMiracle ’s perspective on illness is one I’m absolutely fascinated with... 🤓 It says that the body can take over the mind (fight or flight) which communicates to the mind that it is not running the show. And so, the body’s desires stand in the way of the mind rejoining the Holy Spirit. The Course then asks, “How could the mind be returned to the Holy Spirit unless the body is killed? And who would want salvation at such a price?” Ego is fear in thought form. And a mind that feels powerless is a fearful mind. The fearful mind is the separator, the root of disconnection and despair. BUT ☝🏼 I’ll leave us with one last #ACIM quote, one of hope and salvation instead. “Therefore, forgiveness is the necessary condition for finding the peace of God. More than this, given forgiveness there must be peace.” 💙🙏🏼
There were moments it was just too much for her sweet heart. She was my mini Doula, at my side the entire way through. I knew her gentle spirit might become overwhelmed so before the laboring ever began I reminded her, “Mommy is ok.
Even when it’s scary, or you think something might be wrong, Mommy is ok!!” So, when the time came, I had said it enough that she could repeat it back to me. What she didn’t know, was how much I would need the same reminder. “Mommy is ok. Even when it’s scary, and you think something might be wrong, Mommy is ok!!” 🌿 📷: @followthatfamilyphotography
I hold the lotus so close to my heart, and it is forever marked upon my wrist. Its colorful bloom is an obvious suspect, but the lotus also has a life cycle unlike any other. With its roots based in mud, it submerges every night into murky river water, and—undeterred by its dirty environment—it miraculously re-blooms the next morning without residue on its petals. How beautiful is this life that we find our way through the hard stuff only to be born into the beautiful flower we were always meant to be. 🌸
Using meditation throughout our day is the simple practice of leaving space open for all situations, emotions, and people. That means we accept and respond to the world outside - and inside - us, rather than rejecting or reacting. This is a curious way of living, quite literally, as we learn to maintain a curiosity in the face of what we had previously thought we knew. It’s the quality of not grabbing for something to fill up the space anytime there is a gap.
You can notice this in your own life by watching your own body movements when you’re uncomfortable. And as you notice what you do, approach it with curiosity, without trying to change it. You may be surprised by what can change simply by being touched by gentle awareness.✨
When all those little things you’ve heard throughout life in manyfold become your most resounding life learnings. Power and revelations made possible only by ways of your own experience xxx #sparklefromtheheart#heartcoach
Meep Moment 18/30: (the short version) Shirley Temple at lunch today... sooooo good! (the long version) Lately, I’ve been toying with the idea of significantly cutting back on alcohol. It scares me to say this, but I’m even thinking about cutting it out completely (whaaaaat?!) I’m downright exhausted from having to make so many decisions when it comes to alcohol—should I drink tonight, how will I get home, who will watch Lily (my dog) for me if I don’t come home til the morning, when will I get [whatever] done if I can’t do it tomorrow because I’m hungover, what will I need to cut back on this week if I spend all of my money on booze, how many should I have tonight, do I need to pick up more beer—the list goes on. I VERY strongly identify with being a drinker. Nina and Miller Lite go together ALMOST as much as Nina and Dave Matthews do. Speaking of which, no alcohol at Dave Matthews this summer?! That’s blasphemy. Or maybe it’s not. Cheers (with my Shirley Temple) to treating life as an experiment... let’s see what happens when we switch things up ✨
Practicing mindfulness requires the courage and respect to look at ourselves with honesty and gentleness. Mindfulness helps us relate with all of the parts of ourselves and with the various parts of our lives. As @anipemachodron says, “It’s a lifetime’s journey to relate honestly to the immediacy of our experience into respect ourselves enough not to judge it.” I also think mindfulness is a way to show ourselves the loving, nonjudgmental, and affectionate attention we’ve needed most. It is the practice of being good to ourselves. 📷 @mindfulstudiomag
