Sautéed beet greens with garlic and balsamic vinegar. Don’t throw beet greens. Not only beet roots, but beet greens are super nourishing! Rich in minerals such as iron, magnesium, and calcium. Great source of Vitamin A, C, K, and B2. Contains lutein and beta carotene which are beneficial for eye health. You can get many health benefits from every part of beet 😌
Mushroom Bolognese over gnocchi that I made and froze a few months ago—the pillowy tender potato gnocchi covered with a mushroom sauce that’s so hearty, I didn’t even miss the meat. I think this one is a keeper! 😋🍝🍄 #optimistickitchen#makeyourkitchenyourhappyplace
Yesterday, I did not have a good nutrition day ( 🍕 🍪 🍩 😂). I know one bad day isn’t going to make me gain weight back (just like I didn’t gain the weight in one day). Instead, I’m focusing on eating better today!! This is lunch. Water first, veggies most, protein & FFC, plate it, then accessories! Healthy & satisfying!!
Experimenting with coconut milk is a success! I've been trying to find a way to get more healthy fats in my diet. I dont like coconut usually, but this morning's #tiuslimdownsmoothie and chia seed pudding earned all the creamy factor points! Highly recommend!
Perfect fuel the modified workout this morning. Gotta rest the foot but also keep working because we are all so worth the effort!
Smoothie-frozen cauliflower and mixed berries, scoop of #toneitup vanilla protien, coconut milk, almond milk, chia seeds, honey to sweeten!
Chia seeds- coconut milk, almond milk, chia seeds, maple syrup, cinnamon, and raw cacao nibs
Lunch is read and we’ve got a new pizza flavour - jalapeno! We’ve also got pineapple pizza, chickpea salad sandwiches, burritos, pad thai, sushi, and spring rolls. Our soup today is delicious tortilla soup. And of course we have cold-pressed juices, smoothies, bulletproof coffee, healthy desserts, and snacks. #yum#healthyANDdelicious
I was always one of those people who thought eating healthy meant eating bland unenjoyable food. You know, a diet that consisted of cottage cheese, iceberg lettuce and plain nonfat yogurt. WRONG! Healthy food is flavorful and delicious! This journey with food has been such am eye opener! I LOVE eating delicious healthy food that is good for my body. There has been NO sacrifice in flavor. #fooddoneright#healthyanddelicious
Marvellous mackerel 🐟
Marvellous because it's rich in healthy fats and it's an excellent one to introduce into the diet if you are up for experimenting with different varieties. How beautiful are these pieces prepared by my local fishmonger.
Mackerel is ideal for grilling or baking and when cooked the meat is creamy and full of flavour.
It has a great nutritional profile too. It's high in protein, the healthy omega 3 fats, vitamin B12, selenium, iron and small amounts of zinc. Pretty impressive huh?
Studies have shown mackerel to be beneficial in skin care, boosting our immune system, lowering cholesterol, improving cognition and fighting against depression.
These grilled simply, sitting on a bed of lemon slices will char beautifully.
The last couple of days I’ve been renovating instead of pottering in the #tinykitchen and as the exhaustion has set in I’ve been dreaming about calorie dense food including some experimental baking I did a while back... peanut butter, chocolate & buckwheat cookies. Almost heathy which is a bonus when you’ve got no time to cook but desperately need to eat
🌈EAT THE RAINBOW🌈
Depriving yourself and being hard on yourself, leads to a miserable existence.
I can promise you that.
If you're following a diet that's ridiculously restrictive, or constantly giving yourself grief over your eating, exercise, or anything else; it's time to have a rethink.
Putting heaps of pressure on yourself by setting unrealistic goals fuels anxiety, stress and ill health.
There's nothing remotely healthy, balanced or enjoyable, about mentally running yourself into the ground.
Understand that your mind and body go hand in hand. So if you want to thrive, you need to start looking after BOTH. Your mind needs a little nourishment, just like your body.
But look, there's no quick fix or overnight solution.
This isn't the part where I tell you to "click this link", hand over your bank details and sign up for my super duper world famous mind and body transformation plan 🤦🏻♂️ Nope.
It's the part where you have to be willing to make time, for yourself and for your health.
The bit where you have to drop the excuses and pick up the effort.
I know you're busy...
I know it's not easy...
I know life can be challenging... But focusing on the above, won't help change the situation you’re in.
Ask yourself the following questions? ✔Are you nourishing yourself with fresh wholesome food?
✔Are you being mindful of your portions?
💦 Are you drinking enough water?
💃 Are you staying active and getting some regular exercise in?
📱 Are you spending too much time in front of a screen?
💤 Are you getting enough good quality sleep?
💥Are you finding ways to reduce your stress levels?
Bring some awareness to the above and make some small changes.
Lastly, find your healthy balance.
Which includes making room for some of the indulgent food and drink that you enjoy.
Not giving yourself a hard time, if you miss out on some sleep or if you don't manage to get in as much exercise, as you'd like.
Being patient and kind (to yourself) when you have "off days". Realising that you're human, after all. Not a bloody machine or robot, that can do everything, all at once.
Remember, healthy is an outfit that looks different on everybody.
