Today was the first time I've ever placed at a race, I came in 2nd overall and first in my age group! Personal record of 22:08! Went for a very sweaty run today. A feels like temp of 88 meant I took it easy, but I got it done, even when it meant running over a mile with a foot cramp. Not a bad pace either, all things considering. #guessimarunnernow#trainlikeyuurikatsuki
I'd been avoiding running for a while because it was cold. But the weather has warmed up, and I have the Race to Wrigley 5K on May 6th, so I gotta get my butt back into gear. After many months of early, late, hurried, relaxed, sleep deprived, well rested, forced and enjoyed runs....the day finally came! Today I didn’t want to run and got dressed and my mom reminded me, “do it you’ll feel better!” Turns out it’s true (had an emotionally rough week)! This is a 5K today. I have only run three times in two weeks because I’ve been so busy! I feel like I’m falling behind! I haven’t been in track and I have a race in two weeks! I don’t look to place but to beat my last time!
The fourth race, in two weeks, of the year is flat!!😁 Went to a flat park here today to practice. This park was 1)not flat 2) manage hills.
I may be slow to you but this was the FIRST TIME UNDER 10 minutes for a mile!!! I may be a turtle, but it was my best yet! I have to remind myself I am only competing with me to be my best self! I am going at my pace and growing. I may be slow but like the quote says, “you’re lapping everyone in the couch”! Running is new to me and makes me happy!! I feel good doing it, and I’m not the best at running. I am not a life long runner..:but I am trying and beating my old me everyday! I feel amazing about these numbers! I found a local running group that was doing a Pub Run tonight, so I decided to join them. I was worried about getting left behind, but I wasn't the last person to finish. I went on my first run since my half marathon today. Things have been rough in my personal life and I couldn't motivate myself to get out sooner. In 2015, my sister ran her first half marathon at Disney World during the Princess Half Marathon Weekend. I was the only one in our family who was able to go watch her run. Three years later, she ran with me through the Magic Kingdom during my first half marathon. After the race, she asked if we could get a picture together. She had brought the medal from our first Princess Half Marathon Weekend together and wanted a photo of us with it and our medals. I was so touched. I never would have signed up for this half marathon without her encouragement and support. I am so glad she convinced me to do it. The only problem now is that running is not an inexpensive hobby. This week, I am officially a C25K graduate! I finished my first full run 5k (week 8, day 3)on Tuesday! I had to talk myself through it the first time. I really had to break the mental barrier. I knew my body could do it, but my brain didn’t know it could. I never stopped, allowed a bit, but talked myself through every step.
Today I ran it again, and ran my fastest mile ever! I felt it as I was doing it and I wanted to go more but it said, “ you workout is complete” faster than I knew it was going to!
I downloaded the 10K but wanted to have a green check on everyone of the workouts on C25K before I moved on to make it really legit!
This program was so easy to follow! I repeated a lot of days. Week 5, day 2 more times than I can count because I was scared of day 3 and crossing the threshold to more running than waking! I also took two weeks off with my accident, so it took me three months rather than two to complete.
It took me on a crazy mental and physical journey from, “if you see me running you should start because something big and scary is coming” to, “I have to run at least here days a week or I get cranky”. Running is the best gift @weightwatchers gave to me! I never would have done it, but @weightwatchers said small consistent efforts add up. They did! With the help of #c25k each small, consistent step lead to a 5k and a new, healthy addiction!!! HW:217.9

4 #NSV for today!!! 1) year I set out to do a 5k each month. 2 of 12 is complete! ) 2) I saved week 6 day 3 of #c25k For this race. I walked the first five minutes and ran the rest. Even ran through the cool down and then when he run was over I still had a block left and I never stopped running!!! I ran it all! 3) due to all of the running and not stopping or walking After my warmup, I know 3.14 minutes off my time! The 3rd place in my age group was only two minutes faster! Im at a competitive pace now!!! And I CAN it even when my head is in the way I know my body can. I worked through the mental game today.4) The biggest one for me...I’m looking at these pictures and I don’t even know who’s body I am standing in! I look thin! AND I am wearing a fleece under that L tee-shirt. You heard me, a full fleece UNDER and the shirt is a LARGE and I can fit something under! That cell phone holder is over my arm, a fleece, AND a T-shirt!?!?! I had been doing the walking thing every morning and had started to get outside to do my walks, yes at 5 am. One day I felt my body wanting to run. Most bizarre thing! I am not a runner, I love Zumba, Pilates, barre...not running. I was the girl who said,”if you see me running you should too, something big and scary is behind me”! So I downloaded #c25k which my roommate had done in grad school and I was off! Women in my meeting were talking about turkey trots and getting charms for their race. I am all about the charms, so I quickly googled and found a race as soon as I could. I wanted a charm so badly!
