"It is time for a return to childhood, to simplicity, to running and climbing and laughing in the sunshine, to experiencing happiness instead of being trained for a lifetime of pursuing happiness. It is time to let children be children again.” 〰 L. R. Knost
It’s not exactly hiking through @prospect_park’s Ravine, but it’s kind of what Olmsted and Vaux were going for — they wanted to give ordinary Brooklynites a “means of ready escape” from the urban environment to a natural landscape, right in the heart of the city. The Park’s main woodland was inspired by the Adirondacks and Catskills, with undulating hills, streams, waterfalls, and a towering canopy. Today we hiked to the top of 3,720-foot Shrewsbury Peak in central Vermont, the 30th-tallest peak in the state, and thought about our countless daily strolls through the Ravine.
