The plastics we use today are the bones of the earth tomorrow. I see our great great great great grandchildren living in a world where nature is sacred and loved and rampantly alive everywhere... It's possible if we work together! WE'VE GOT THIS... Let the #revolution start from within and ripple out!
My Earth 🌏 Day Episode of @rheas_haven_podcast 🌿
In honor of Earth Day on the 22nd, I wanted to do a podcast about my love of nature and how we humans can heal our Great Mother and how she heals us. 🌷
What special thing are you doing for Earth Day?
I share my journey into green interior architecture and design and how it brought me back to my farm girl roots and my inherent love of nature. I never wanted to be a designer when I was younger, but I tell a story about my start in building houses out of bales and how I was inspired by an instructor to study indigenous ways of life and the natural cycles of Mother Earth to design in holistic and eco-friendly ways.
If you are looking for a great book you should check out the Nature Fix by Florence Williams. It is full explanations about why nature makes us happier, healthier, and more creative. I found it inspiring and because I like to get a little nerdy sometimes, I loved the information about scientific studies on nature that Florence writes about in this book. Have you heard of the Japanese healing therapy called Forest Bathing? You’ll definitely want to hear about that.
AIR APPARENT » Could electric airplanes change regional travel? Eviation—a company in Israel—picked up the Fast Company’s 2018 world-changing ideas award for the first ever completely battery-powered airplane. (Boeing is researching hybrid planes) The nine-seater, called the Alice commuter, can fly 650 miles and initially aims to compete with high-speed trains. Eviation claims that because they wouldn’t have high fuel and maintenance costs, tickets would be less than taking a bus or even a vehicle. At least they didn’t skimp on design—Alice is one sleek looking aircraft. +++ Would you be willing to fly the friendly skies in an electric airplane?
BLACK BARN REVEAL: 8 of 20
Initially we developed the brief with the family, understanding how they use their existing house and how they wish to live. The space strategy focused on the potential configuration of their needs and how these impact the internal and external views to the site.
The space relationship diagram here describes the process to create legible connections between each space. For the living areas a key component of the design was to connect the spaces visually with the kitchen as the focal point. The clients wanted to keep an eye on the rest of the family while they were in the kitchen which lead to the idea of an open plan flexible living space that can be adapted to their needs. The majority of the services and moderately used rooms were kept to the north of the house.

Arch. Richard Morris is a New Zealand-born architect practicing with acclaimed Thai resort designers Habita Architects. Habita's clients feature exclusive international eco-resort brands Six Senses and Soneva. Richard's core interest is sustainable design. He believes that the architect's responsibilities extend far beyond building design. And that there is much more to sustainable design than energy efficiency and using appropriate construction materials. For 4 years Richard has also worked with remote communities in Myanmar to develop bamboo construction as a modern, sustainable means of shelter. And as a foundation for economic and environmental resilience. Richard believes eco-resorts, whether for the luxury market or as a community enterprise, are a unique testing ground for architecture in the 21st century. To be successful, they must truly deliver the triple bottom line - commercial profitability, social engagement and environmental stewardship.

My Earth posters. And my commitment to her 🌎. I am challenging myself for one year to the following: 🌈☀️ No more burritos unless they aren’t wrapped in foil
No more salsa in plastic containers
No more condiments in packaging (ketchup, salt, sugar)
No more food to go unless I bring my own container
No more food delivery with the exception of a pizza
No more straws
Turn off and unplug unused electrical
Buy bulk for everything I can get my hands on.
