Milk🥛 n’ sugar.
For a few years, during my clean-eating and orthorexic phase, I religiously avoided milk and sugar in my tea. It only did one thing in my eyes: added calories. In these low-calorie days, food was a means to an end. I didn’t eat normally. I didn’t eat naturally either, despite wanting to be “natural”🌿. My disordered ways of eating were far from the natural processes regulating our motivations to eat.
As my health declined, I wondered why it was that milk or cream with sugar was so commonly added to tea and coffee. The answer was obvious. TASTE! 👅 But the next question I pondered was: ❓❓“WHY? Why would most people choose to drink their coffee ☕️ with milk and sugar?
My answer took time to develop. After trying new foods out and ditching orthorexia, and learning to enjoy food again, I realized what it was. COMFORT. Milk and sugar provide some comfort. And this doesn’t have to be a bad thing. I’ve realized now that there are two sides to everything, and when it comes to milk and sugar, yes they are more calories to your tea, but tea was never drunk for just weight loss as it is now by health freaks. It was part of culture. It was part of the PROCESS of enjoying life and the gifts 🎁 of mother nature. And enjoying life ultimately is part of living a long one.
