🏆 Book of the month goes to... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
📖“The Hard Thing About Hard Things” - Ben Horowitz.
While many people talk about how great it is to start a business, very few are brutally honest about how difficult it is to run one. As I strive to hire correctly, manage effectively, and make the right decisions when it comes to direction and investments, this book has been a breath of fresh air and I know I will reference it infinite times. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some key takeaways: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉🏼 When things go wrong in your company, nobody cares. Spend zero time on what you could have done, and devote all your time on what you will do. Because in the end, nobody cares; just run your business. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉🏼 There is no secret to being a successful CEO. But if there is one skill that stands out, it’s the ability to focus and make the best move when there are no good moves. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉🏼 Don’t hire for a lack of weaknesses, hire people for their strengths. Define the position you are hiring for very clearly and write down the strengths you are looking for and the weaknesses you are willing to tolerate. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉🏼 This is not checkers, this is motherfuckin’ chess. Remember that this is what separates the women from the girls. If you want to be great, this is the challenge. Embrace the struggle. If you don’t want to be great, then you shouldn’t have started a company in the first place. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Are you blogging on your website on a (fairly) regular basis?
If you are, high fives from me! Fresh, updated, helpful content is so good for SEO.
But even from some of the most prolific bloggers I know in the wedding industry, I keep getting the question "What am I supposed to be doing with categories and tags?"
"Do I use a lot? A few? What's the difference between them? Is that where I put keywords?"
As with most SEO concepts, it's actually not too hard. I explained it all in my most recent article "How to Use Categories and Tags on a Wedding Blog" at saradoesseo.com/blog.

Happy #internationalwomensday2018 so happy to live in an age where this is true! There’s still a long way to go before we get true #equality but it’s definitely moving in the right direction and women are finally seen as a force to be reckoned with! 👊🏻
It’s the sure fire way to avoid the dreaded #smonday feeling...find your passion and find a way to make it work for you. This isn’t always as drastic as setting up on your own, it can be simply moving into a role that channels more of what you like than what you don’t. We all spend so much time ‘working’ that it would be far better to at least enjoy it, don’t you think? I used to countdown to 5pm on a Friday from about 9.32 on a Monday, and even then would spend the weekend dreading work again...so glad those days are over! I might not be bringing in as much money as my salary used to cover but it’s amazing how quickly you realise you were wasting money on crap you didn’t really need and that actually there is so much more to life than money anyway!
MY FULL PLATE, MY FOCUS
This year I am juggling a few things. It’s requiring me to uplevel my focus and discipline. I’ve had to strip down non-essentials and actually block any negativity from entering my world.
We started with a family holiday only involving a truck, tent and bare essentials.
Then a 7 day de-clutter of our home.
Then a strategy for our family to focus on what’s important to us. Our family values and goals are very unique to others around us and that’s OK! We just need to block out the noise and go for it!
My focus this year is less on others and more on me. I’ve realised I can help more people by putting myself first.
So this is my focus: 💖 My kids + husband 🏄🏻♀️ My health + happiness 💼 My new part time job at my local marketing agency 👩🏻💻 My business + clients 🏠 Building an investment house
What is your focus right now and what are your tips for blocking out the noise and going for your own dreams?
FRESH OUT OF IDEAS? ☹️ "Tell your story", the experts say.
But what if you feel like you don't have one worthy of sharing?
1) You probably do, you just don't think you do
2) Create something worth telling people about
IDEAS 💡 *Hold an event - anything, just do it *Stage a fun feud with a competitor (that you actually do get on with) eg. Owners of McDonald's vs KFC argue over who has the best cheese *Create discussion about a better way of doing things - conscious consumers, technology - can be controversial *Run a competition that is truly bizzare but captures imaginations, think about weird trends right now... *Or a comp with a truly life-changing prize *Raise money for a cause dear to your heart through sales of your product/service
The thing that kills me is that a lot of you are already doing amazing things, you told your own networks but you forgot to notify the media and the public at large!
A lot of you are 'hoping' that someone else will tell the media. Or the media will just find you.
You tell them. The media and the public need these good news, fun and light stories.
Tell me some crazy ideas you have been sitting on that you think could be newsworthy but aren't sure.
Or share with me stuff you've done that was super newsworthy and the media loved it! 👇
