I have returned, and I bring to you all a new candy and beer pairing.
Toppling Goliath Brewing Co. has come on strong with the MA distribution, and for the low prices that come along with their products I’m willing to try their entire repertoire. Pompeii is a mosaic-hopped IPA that offers up the best of what mosaic hops have to offer - citrus/tropical notes with a healthy dose of bitterness. It wasn’t until drinking my third can of it did I really uncover all of the flavors this beer has to offer. It’s deceptively complex and I’m glad I didn’t give up on this one.
Mike and Ike Red Rageous! is yet another box of blended flavors which in this case focuses on pink and red colored candies. The five flavors are cherry, strawberry, raspberry, watermelon, and fruit punch. There’s enough variety for each fruit to stand out even when a dozen are being messily shoveled into my mouth all at once. The fruit punch flavor is the standout for me as it’s nearly identical to the taste of Hawaiian Punch and that’s a delicious thing to replicate.
Final thought: Toppling Goliath is becoming an easy grab for me. As I’ve stated a few times before their beers are not amazing, but they are a satisfying combination of quality and price. Pompeii’s fruit-forward flavors work well with Mike and Ike Red Rageous! creating a fruity soup with just the right bitter edge. Combined cost for the candy and beer was $13 - that’s a full night’s entertainment and refreshments for the cost of a movie ticket!
